This is fun
This is easy
It did take some time for me warm up to the characters, I think the beginning there didn’t seem to be much chemistry between the two characters and with such a slow burn it almost felt rushed or like a piece was missing at the end.
There seemed to be a fair amount of work based chapters that kind of felt like filler but had mini side plots to highlight the difficulty for women when dating or the inequality in the workplace. They didn’t really have much relevance to the romance plot and just a little for character development.
The book has a whole cast of characters within the friendship group that are connected to other books by the author but they aren’t essential reading to read this book.

Tropes:
best friend's brother
close proximity/roommates

Hunter has been in love with her best friend's brother, Dylan, for 11 years, while Dylan sees her only as his sister's friend. Now, they are roommates - will this be enough for Dylan to finally notice her?

From the get go, Hunter is absolutely obsessed with Dylan to the point of idealization, and I was worried that Hunter would be into Dylan as an idea rather than as a person. Luckily, Dylan lives up to the hype - he's kind, a BAKER, and protective. I felt bad for Hunter - her unrequited love for and sadness about Dylan and Dylan's oblivion were hard to read. I kind of wished Dylan had to chase Hunter a bit before finally getting together. Dylan's feelings towards Hunter are more gradual, and it gets a little dicey as he is casually seeing someone else during this time. This is definitely a slow burn, and there is a lot of build up and anticipation.

This book also touches on serious health topics, such as PCOS and endometriosis, as well as problems women commonly face in the workforce that I really appreciated. I've read the Funny Feelings series since the first one, and I loved all the female characters and am so happy to see all 3 of them finally getting their HEAs.

This book had me giggling and stealing every moment I could to read. Hunter has a new roommate, the man she has had a crush on for ages who is also her best friend’s brother. He apparently has a new girlfriend making this situation even more complicated for Hunter’s heart. As they spend more time together they start to feel closer than friend adjacent but could they be even more? Lots of longing, some horrible dates, and pretty terrific attempts at seduction made this book hit every note required to make me swoon. The perfect ending to a great series.

If it is Camilla Isley, I read it...and I LOVE it. This book was no exception. It is the third book in a series, but once you figure out the players, you would still enjoy it as a standalone.
Hunter is now roommates with her best friend's brother, Dylan. She has been in love with him forever, but he seems oblivious to her feelings, despite their close proximity. Throw in some forced proximity, one bed, some bad dates, and a girlfriend that just won't go away, you will laugh, cry, and beg for Dylan to open his eyes. Isley always brings the swoon and banter and I can't wait for the next one.

3.5 ⭐️This book was fun! At times, the dialogue and inner monologue (narration) felt a little unbelievable for me… like it was hard for me to get into it.

Very cute quick read. The first half of the book was a little all over the place but by the second half i was giggling and enthralled. Loved the best friend's brother aspect...especially since i married my best friend's brother so it's close to my heart as a trope. The supporting characters were fantastic and i could feel the trilogy in this book. I'll definitely be reading the other two books,

Dylan was very wishy washy to me and it felt like the chemistry between him and Hunter was not authentic. Where Hunter just seemed like a love sick puppy but yet no one knew. I wanted to read this book because I hear great things about this author. The timing, the build up, the character development all fell a little flat for me. With that being said i would be interested in trying another book since I have heard so many great things

I’m normally a huge fan of Camilla Isley, but this one reminded me of her earlier works which aren’t my favorite.

I loved the other two books in this series, but this one fell flat. I thought Dylan was a man who at first didn’t know what he wanted but then was too big of a chicken to go after the girl he (finally) decided he wanted. Hunter was okay, but she needed to get in the head space where she didn’t need a man that chose someone else. Don’t even get me started on Olivia. She drove me insane.

I’m not a huge fan of the trope where the MMC is with another woman for the majority of the book while having semi-feelings for the FMC the whole time. It’s hard to accomplish this, and I don’t think this was successful.

I do plan on reading Isley’s books in the future. I just hope we get our strong FMCs back.

This was light and sweet but didn't quite land for me. I struggled with Dylan's POVs, especially with the dubiousness towards his girlfriend for calling him her boyfriend (despite the fact that he referred to her as his girlfriend). I also found it hard to imagine that no one had picked up on Hunter's huge crush on Dylan, despite the group being so close.

“The Roommate Experiment” is the 3rd book in a series by Camilla Isley, though this can definitely be read as a standalone.
Hunter has had a crush on her best friend’s brother for 11 years, and is besides herself when said best friend’s brother Dylan moves into her spare room. Will living in close proximity change how Dylan sees Hunter, or are they destined to remain just friendly forever?

Read if you enjoy:
*** Best friend’s brother
*** Roommates to lovers
*** Dual POV
*** She falls first
*** One sofa bed scene

I enjoyed this romcom and the author’s humor throughout. I also liked our FMC and was rooting for her. I will say though that I do enjoy a little more spice in my romances, especially with a great build-up of tension. I sort of felt left unfulfilled with that aspect of the novel. All and all, I would read another novel by this author in the future.

Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC of this novel; all opinions are my own.

I love Camilla Isley books. Her latest, The Roommate Experiment is out next month. Don’t miss this one.

I absolutely adored this book. It had the pining, the hilarious, impossible situations. The tender moments, and so, so much tension.

The epilog was so sweet...

I loved how it was a slow burn, totally believable with relatable characters. That Dylan was a total golden retriever but still sexy as hell...

Must read.

3.5 stars

A fun, compelling read, which would pull at some heartstrings, particularly if it makes you think back to a crush or a love that's been unrequited for so long.

In this case, it's 11 years for Hunter, who has grown up with this budding awareness that what she feels for the bestie's brother is never platonic and sadly, never reciprocated. But the change in status comes when Dylan finally moves in, along with a newly-minted girlfriend that piles on the unhappiness for Hunter. Of course there is a HEA...but getting there was both tortuous and torturous.

My complaint really, was the inconsistent pacing. There's quite a bit of angst, some embarrassing moments, and then the slow and gradual catch-up for Dylan when he finally sees Hunter for who she is. Then it all peaks too quickly at the end (and after all that waiting, it's pretty much a non-explicit let-down after the build-up that just screams that you need more) before an epilogue that jumps quite a few years into the future.

I couldn't help but feel that there was some big chunk that I needed to delve more deeply into for that transition of friends to roommates to lovers but was cheated out of somehow. Where is the steam, the spice, the hot culmination of the couple's getting together? The part that leaves the reader as hot and bothered as the characters on the page?

'The Roommate Experiment' was nonetheless, an easy read--Camilla Isley's prose flows quite effortlessly and both the protagonists' feelings in particular, are well articulated and teased out. And if you're up for clean-ish romances, this is pretty much as good as it gets. I personally prefer a bit more grit and dirt in the spice as well, so its lightheartedness, while a bit of a change, stayed too much on the tame side for me.

This was my first book by this author and it was a pleasant read. This was 3rd in the series but you dont need to read the first two to get the story. I enjoyed the chemistry and build up of the main characters but I felt the story was very predictable. I knew what was going to happen and when for the most part. The ending felt a bit rushed with the whole seduction plan. I didn't feel the butterfiles so to speak. After all that pining and longing they both did it all kind of fell short for me.

I am giddy! I picked up this book and finished it in one sitting. It gave me all the feels and all the giggles with the hilarious situations.

Without giving away spoilers, but what Dylan does in the end when he finds out Hunter has a crush on him. OH MY GOSH, I was swooning so hard during the couch scene I thought I was going to pass out--that entire two/three chapters of the book are unforgettable. Best tension ever. Irreplaceable.

I also loved the sweet epilog... 6 stars!

After reading only sweet clean romances for a while this one certainly steps up the spice/heat but remains closed door/fade to black. I love Camilla Isley's stories however the language was strong in this after not reading books with any cursing in them. A lot of fbombs floating around in this!
This is a best friends brother / forced proximtry story. Part of series but definitely can read as a standalone. Thanks netgalley for the copy for my honest review.
