I love a fun murder mystery and this is such a summer read. The writing was easy to follow and flowed nicely.
Hotel manager Lola moves to a remote luxury island for a fresh start, a chance to reinvent herself. However, shortly after she arrives, her old co-worker and boss turns up dead. Maybe Lola hasn’t quite left the past behind her…
I like that the mystery hooks you in straight away, Lola’s obscure past slowly unfurls along side her current mystery.
That being said , I found the FMC quite annoying. I dislike when martyrdom is a big chunk of their personality. She lacked subtlety, was quite reckless and made eye rollingly poor decisions.
Overall, this book was quite intriguing , it’s far from realistic but it’s not pretending to be, it’s just a fun easy read.

Quirky sums my feelings up for this book
Great cover and even better story
Lots of twists and turns and a story that kept me invested
First time read for me for this author and will read more

Lola's last job didn't end well - since there was quite literally blood, sweat, and tears involved. So hiding out on an island resort for the super-wealthy seems to be a good way of keeping her head down.
The problem is, Lola's mentor Mike, who is her only link with the past, dies very soon after she arrives...A minor hitch, surely? Not!
Now, she has to navigate an unfamiliar environment, deal with entitled rich folk, and find a way of staying alive, which is going to involve quite the juggling act.
This was a fun read (with a few too many characters perhaps). But overall, quite enjoyable and with a dash of black humour, too. It gets 3.5 stars.

Loved every minute. Gripping read full of twists and turns. Feel like the epilogue leaves it on a cliffhanger and would love a second book to continue from there. Will be keeping an eye out to see if there is 🤞
Thank you Nicola Martin, Bloombury Publishing and Netgalley for this ARC.

The first book I've read by Nicola Martin and I was impressed. Lola is running from something in Hong Kong and ends up on Paradise island in the Caribbean to work on an exclusive resort with her old friend Moxham. Within 24 hours, Lola discovers a body and tries to uncover whether it was really the accidental death the islanders are claiming it to be
Full of suspense, I didn't want to put it down. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
