📚 BookTok Review: My Star-Crossed Summer by Lucy Day 💫
If you're craving a heartwarming, closed-door second chance romance set in a nostalgic summer camp, My Star-Crossed Summer by Lucy Day is your next must-read.
The story follows Victoria Griffin, a perfectionist seeking a fresh start after a broken engagement and a derailed career. She takes a job at a kids' astronomy camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains, only to find herself working alongside Noah Valentine, her former college best friend and unrequited love. As they navigate camp life and old feelings resurface, Victoria must confront her past and decide if she's ready to embrace love again.
Perfect for fans of Katherine Center, Sarah Adams, and BK Borison, this book delivers all the feels without the spice.

Victoria and Noah’s story was such a beautiful one to read about!!
It’s a cute, second-chance, forbidden romance and I loved all of it! I loved all of Victoria’s self discoveries and reading about her journey and the hardships of finding herself felt very relatable.
I soaked up every word and was eager for the rest.
I loved the premise of the summer camp, nature filled story and them finding each other again, and I feel like it was executed very well! I really enjoyed this book & recommend reading it!!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I will now give my honest opinion of this book.
Victoria is in slump breaking off her engagement and leaving her job, she is in need of a fresh start. Her best friend Roxy offers her a job at a kids camp, Victoria takes it hopefully it will be the fresh start she needs and a chance to feel passionately about something she is doing. Victoria was not an expecting to bump into her old best friend from college Noah Valentine who broke her heart after their kiss on the beach.
Victoria is initially like a duck out of water but finds her groove and quickly bonds with the kids, it’s clear from the get go that there are unresolved feelings between her and Noah. The pair of them soon finding themselves falling back to the way they used to be and falling in love again until another misunderstanding throws a spanner in the works. I love second change romances and I devoured this one quickly, it was really well written and both main characters were very realistic and believable. This was a thoroughly enjoyable book filled with plenty of sweet moments between Victoria and Noah. I will be checking out more of the authors books after this.

I really enjoyed this book by Lucy Day. It was nice to see a story for Victoria after reading her sister's story. I liked seeing Victoria pull herself up by her bootstraps and get some self confidence. I was worried that she would be too girly to outdoors but she really adapted to it.
Noah is a good character for Victoria to play off of. Their past relationship seems to just pick up again after many years. Dual POV is always great to see. I love hearing the story from both sides.
My biggest issue is the relationship being forbidden by the camp. I understand that it is a distraction but they make it seem like it is absolutely the worst and everyone will be fired. There was really no big thing at the end and I was waiting for it.
Thank you to Lucy Day, BooksGoSocial, and NetGalley for the e-ARC. This review is my own opinion.

This book was so much fun to read. I loved that the backstory want too messy but also enough to believable. Noah and Victoria have pretty good chemistry plus the side characters are amazing. There's the outdoorsy, adventurous aspect to this book which adds layers to the story alongside the fact that she's got a self discovery arc. Absolutely adore sweet romances!!!

This book is a great summer (or wishing it was summer) read. I really enjoyed the summer camp setting, and the descriptions of the natural world around the camp were surprisingly vivid. This book is the second chance romance story of Noah and Victoria, who met years earlier in college, caught feelings, and then things ended badly and unresolved. Now they’ve both started working at an astronomy summer camp completely by chance.
What I liked:
- Victoria’s personal growth. The book begins with her shimmying down a tree in order to sneak out of her mother’s house, so I knew right away that this is a woman who has some unresolved issues. Throughout the book, Victoria is very contemplative in regard to her future and recognizing what she actually wants for herself and not just what her mother expects of her.
- The kids at camp. The interactions between the kids and between the kids and the camp staff were so believable and sweet. Even the kids who were more of a challenge had redeeming qualities.
- The humor! There were scenes that gave me a good laugh and I could really picture some of the chaotic moments. I’m not always a big fan of physical comedy in books, but it was written well here.
- Dual POV. I loved being able to see things from both Noah and Victoria’s points of view.
What I Didn’t Like:
- Most of what we see of Noah and Victoria’s emotional relationship is through reminiscing about the past. There’s definitely a lot of physical attraction between them in the present day, but I wish we got to see more of their emotional connection in the present too.
- There’s a huge emphasis on the fact that they cannot fraternize while they’re both working at the camp, and that conflict is never really resolved.
Overall this book is a fun and quick summer read, perfect for a “brain-off” reading day! I enjoyed it a lot and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a low stress, low spice romance novel.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book!

I had the absolute pleasure of getting my hands on a copy of My Star Crossed Summer—and let me just say, I was not ready.
For context, I don’t usually gravitate toward the friends-to-lovers trope, but this book completely wrecked me in the best way. We're talking fluff, tension, and ANGST (aka my favourite heh).
Lucy has a way with words that had me clutching my chest and blinking back tears many times throughout the book.
If you're into second-chance romances, cozy outdoor settings, and adorable camp counselor vibes, this book needs to be on your TBR.

3.5!!
My Star-Crossed Summer is a cozy, second-chance, closed-door romance set mainly in a summer camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Victoria Griffin is finds herself accepting a temporary counselor position at a youth's summer camp after burning out in a life that she wasn't passionate about. It is here that she finds out one of her co-counselors is a former crush / best friend from college, who she hasn't seen since their falling out many years ago. Summer camp takes them on a journey through self-discovery and forbidden chemistry as they confront the memories from their past.
Book Yays:
- Cozy Setting: 3 cheers for a cozy small-town camp setting in the mountains and the antics that come with it
- Witty banter: Enough interesting, light dialogue to keep the book moving
- Dual-POV: Nice to see both POV's, especially as they address their intertwined pasts and the tension they feel forced being together in tight quarters for the summer
Book Nays:
- Pace: There is a bit of redundancy in character patterns that drag the middle of the book out a bit before rushing the end
- Character development: There could have been a bit more depth to side characters like Sophie as well as more depth to Victoria's growth / exploration while growing her confidence
- Balance between past / current conflict: I loved that the conflicts facing the two character's romantic possibilities was multi-dimensional. However, I do think that the story could have benefitted from focusing a bit more on current conflicts than focusing on the past for a majority of the book
Overall though, this was a nice, enjoyable read!
Thank you to NetGalley for the Advance Reading Copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review!!

Very cute love story! It was a little repetitive and a bit back and forth at times but overall really cute! I really liked the dual POV and the summer camp setting was very nostalgic.

For a Read Now book on netgalley I actually enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. It was quite funny at times and the characters were likeable. I struggle with romance book characters sometimes because they feel very unrealistic but this was not the case.

Noah and Victoria are so sons cute with the perfect amount of drawn and connection.
Second chance romance is my favourite trope, and I find I can forgive unlikeable, to me, characters when that’s the case.
Part of a series, but without reading the others I didn’t find myself lost.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for sending me a copy of this book to review.
This was a fun romance novel, and I enjoyed it a lot. I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

Told from dual POV, this was a story of second chance love between camp counselors at a summer camp. Overall, the story was cute, but it started off slower and I had a hard time really getting into it. Miscommunication is a central theme throughout the book, and I often felt frustrated by the characters back and forth/their own insecurities. Although it wasn’t my favorite, it was a unique storyline. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC in return for my honest review.

This was a funny romance read set in a summer camp. I found this book enjoyable and fun to read, I loved the setting of a summer camp. I also enjoyed reading the POVs from both characters which makes the story more interesting. This is a story of friends to lovers, chemistry and lots of funny moments.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book, all opinions expressed are my own.

My Star-Crossed Summer is a contemporary romance set at a science camp in North Carolina. After quitting her job and ending her engagement, FMC Victoria takes a camp counselor gig to get away from it all. When she arrives, she finds that her college best friend and former crush Noah is also working there for the next three weeks. She was prepared to be a fish out of water when it came to the wilderness, but she didn’t expect to come face-to-face with the man who broke her heart. Quickly, she learns that the feeling is mutual and there’s something lingering between them still.
Some aspects I loved:
🏕️ Camp setting
🏕️ Second chance love
🏕️ Friends to lovers
🏕️ Closed door
🏕️ Smart, funny kids
🏕️ Dual POV
Everyone has different things they enjoy in romance novels, so the things I didn’t like about this book shouldn’t deter you from picking it up. Simply, these were the areas I think needed more exploring or refinement:
I think this story would have benefitted a lot from a dual timeline in addition to the dual POV. Victoria and Noah’s chemistry was built over years of friendship and longing. We get a couple small glimpses into that, but it loses its potency when chapter after chapter they both tell themselves “don’t think of him/her that way.” This is where the middle of the book started running dry for me.
There were so many hints at what they wanted to do — be close to one another, explore their connection, etc — but there were fewer stolen moments than I expected. Especially with how immensely guilty Victoria felt for “breaking camp rules”, there was very little case for being disciplined, let alone fired. I love a closed door romance, but I felt this one was lacking a sense of tension or yearning.
Toward 80%, I started getting irritated by the characters not trusting themselves or each other to mean or do what they say. This came across as insecure in a way I didn’t believe they could quickly overcome by the end of the story.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

My Star-Crossed Summer is a cute romance that reminded me of a Hallmark movie. It was a quick, fun read that left me with all the warm fuzzies. Getting a second chance at romance with a soulmate is one of my favorite romance tropes, however, I found myself wishing for a little more depth. We got a lot of perspective into what each character was thinking, as this one is written in dual POV, but the witty banter, connection, and relationship growth between Victoria & Noah felt like it was severely lacking. The interactions they had seemed mostly focused on hashing out the past, rather than reconnecting and growing the current relationship, and the ending wrapped up a little too quickly for the amount of unresolved tension that had existed throughout the entire book.
Overall, if you're looking for a fun summer romance between two likable characters who are easy to root for, this book will hit for you!

This was my first ever summer camp romance. It was surpsrisingly cozy. It made me want to go camping. The book was woodsy, with bonfires and a good summer romance. It was an easy read, and flowed well. Victoria and Noah's story was a second chance romance. After a kiss between the two going wrong, they suffer through a friendship break up. Years later, Victoria goes to work at a kids camp for the summer, and thats when she runs into Noah. It was a super cute read, with lots of funny moments.

This was such a sweet book. The summer camp setting gives you all those nostalgic vibes. Loved all the activities and how they connected to the kids. It’s part of a series but I did not read any of the others, so it could be read as a standalone. Noah and Victoria had a lot of history together which you got to see throughout the book. Really felt the connection of the two main characters. Was sometimes a bit annoyed because they could have just talked it all out but they had the same problem throughout the whole book.
Some quotes I loved:
„she cracked a smile as wide as the ocean, and I knew right then that she was someone I needed in my life. I just didn’t realize how much.„
„But he did teach me to look for the glimmers—those tiny flickers of joy that expand when you focus on them. The more you look for them, the more you find them, and pretty soon, you see them everywhere. And it reminds me that even though there’s a lot of bad in the world, there’s a lot of good, too.”
„You make every place brighter just by being in it. I’ll tell you every day if that’s what it takes for you to believe it.”

There is just something about a summer camp romance that gives me all the warm, sunny feels and this book did not disappoint! It has all the woodsy, lakeside, cabin, bonfire, summer love vibes that I look for in my summer novels. It’s a very easy read that can be consumed in one sitting which I always appreciate during the hotter months when my brain just cannot with the heat.
When first picking up this book I wasn’t aware it is actually book four in the Jasmine Falls Love Stories but thankfully it read like a standalone just fine.
Victoria and Noah were friends in college but unfortunately after a kiss gone wrong things don’t go as planned and they go their separate ways losing all communication with one another.
Now years later and Victoria’s life is not going as planned. With the encouragement of her best friend, Victoria decides to take a break from her complicated life and go work at a kids camp for the summer where there she comes face to face with none other than….. you guessed it, Noah Valentine, the boy who got away.
If you are looking for an easy breezy summer time romance, with plenty of laugh out loud moments, a duel POV, and a sweet love story with just enough conflict to keep you engaged then look no further than, My Star-Crossed Summer.

My Star-Crossed Summer was a really fun, second chance romance. After leaving her fiancé at the altar and quitting her job in real estate - Victoria feels lost with no idea what direction to take next or what she really wants in her life. When the opportunity to work at an astronomy summer camp for kids comes up through her friend - figuring she has nothing to lose and needing to add some funds to her bank account. But she is certainly not expecting to be working with her best friend from college, who she was in love with at the time and who she hasn't seen since she kissed him at the end of college. Noah is completely swoon-worthy, kind, and considerate as Victoria adjusts to working at the camp, knowing she is a bit out of her element. And three weeks without a lot of contact with the outside world is the perfect amount of time for them to straighten out their severe miscommunication and admit that their feelings for each other are still strong. My Star-Crossed Summer was a quick, uplifting, and very enjoyable read. Definitely looking forward to checking out some of Lucy Day's previous books. Thank you to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this novel.
