I read an earlier iteration of this book and read this version mainly to see what had changed, noting I really liked the first version. The answer is that actually quite a lot is different. It’s not so much a whole scale rewrite as a reimagining and re-emphasising of certain aspects of the original, so I recommend it even if you have read the previous version.

has this man not been through enough? i felt so much for our main character. years ago he lost his daughter in such tragic way. that changed his life and his ability to feel or even live. was he just existing? to heal he had to work hard. but at least the man that did it came forward. although he died before he was able to take up proper punishment. but then he meets the love of his life. a chef who he now owns his busines with. all is going well, finally. and he loves this woman so much. so of course he decides to propose. but it is here that April tells him something that tilts his world upside down. she says she knows something of his daughters death. but before she can tell him tragedy strikes this couple. left with no answers and not able to now ask April for these, Cain goes on a quest to find out just what happened then, and maybe what is also happening now. because nothing is as it seems. but Cain has nothing to loss so goes in with full force. and in doing so brings up secrets and lies and from some of the darkest shades of our cuture. these are nests hes disturbing that people dont want to be disturbed.
i felt so much for Cain. the author does such a good job of showing the absolute real emotion of what he would be going through every step of his journey. from the very beginning you are rooting for him.
it felt even better that the places felt real to me because of the setting and location. i could really feel and picture where he was in each moment. the roads felt familiar.
this is a gritty and gripping thriller. i enjoyed this book so much.
