Dark, moody, and full of secrets, Sister Butcher Sister paints a haunting portrait of a family unraveling as buried memories and hidden truths begin to surface. The Rowling sisters Kate, Aurora, and Peggy each bring their own emotional baggage to the forefront, and the novel explores topics such as trauma, addiction, and fractured sibling dynamics.

The most intriguing part of the book was the “SHE” chapters - a chilling perspective from one of the sisters, though we don't know which until the very end. It added a layer of mystery that kept me guessing, and I enjoyed the tension that created. That said, while I liked the concept, I found the SHE sections sometimes repetitive, and they started to lose their edge. The suspense dipped instead of escalating, which made the eventual reveal less powerful than it could have been.

The pacing lagged here and there, and I didn’t always feel fully invested in the characters, but the story had enough intrigue to keep me going.

Whilst it was a solid read with a clever concept, overall it didn’t quite land for me.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the writing and the story, every time I thought knew which sister it was something threw me off and I changed my mind! It is graphic at times so check trigger warnings before reading.

This was such a dark and twisty thriller that kept you guessing! Especially as the The Rowling sisters seem like ordinary people until the secrets start to spill out, it definitely had me being unsure of who to trust and doubting myself.

Oh what a book! Debut crime from this author.and boy do they need to do more please.
I couldn't put it down. It was full of edge of your seat hooks. It was fast paced so you were tumbling over the pages to find out who was who. Bad or good?
And then there is the secrets. And the pasts of all our three sisters. And your constantly trying to figure out if these girls are OK. And or if they could commit murder, ha!
Brilliant twist at the end too.

Kate Aorora and Peggy are sisters, all with different personalities and all have secrets.. One of them is a killer and I really loved trying to guess which one and what would be their fate.

This is an enjoyable twisty read and it's dark with a few triggers that readers might want to check out before reading.

Not having the best of childhoods they all come together and what happens next is disturbing and sinister.

The author is a good storyteller and I cannot wait for their next book, I really enjoyed my reading time

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC!

The cover and description pulled me in right away. It sounded like a dark and twisty read, and I was excited to dive in. After finishing it, I’d say it was okay, not great, not bad, just somewhere in the middle.

The story follows three sisters who come back together after some time apart. The twist? One of them is a killer. It’s a great idea with a lot of potential.

What I liked: the writing is really strong. Each sister felt like a real person with her own voice. The world felt well-built, the pacing made sense, and the murder scenes were interesting. The first half of the book had good suspense, and I was definitely hooked at the beginning.

What didn’t work for me: there was a lot of repetition. We’d learn something from one sister, then hear the same thing again from another. The killer’s point of view was interesting but then the detective would describe the same event again, which felt unnecessary. I kept thinking, “Didn’t I already read this?” And sort of made me go crazy.

Also, with only three sisters, it became pretty easy to figure out who the killer was. I was hoping for a bigger twist or surprise, but it didn’t really happen and was kind of lack luster.

Even so, I would read another thriller by this author. The writing is great, they just need a stronger ending next time.

Check the trigger warnings.
