Elena Frost’s Someone Like You is a haunting and atmospheric thriller that blends psychological suspense with chilling supernatural undertones. When Carey Billingham escapes a traumatic past to start fresh in the isolated Saltwick coastguard station, she hopes for peace. What she finds instead is a creeping sense of dread that refuses to stay buried.

With eerie settings, escalating threats, and the unsettling return of a figure from her nightmares, Frost crafts a tense narrative where reality and paranoia blur. Carey is a compelling heroine—resilient, protective of her son, and determined to reclaim control, even as the shadows around her close in.

This novel is a slow-burn suspense that rewards patient readers with a deeply unsettling mystery and an emotional core. Perfect for fans of gothic thrillers and stories where past trauma takes on a life of its own, Someone Like You will keep you questioning what’s real—and what’s far more terrifying.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this ARC!
This was my first ever ARC and what a way to start it off!! Someone Like You was a super fast paced thriller suspense novel that took you through the love of Carey and Riley. After purchasing a new property, we watch as Carey moves through renovating the space and dealing with some personal issues.

I truly felt like I never knew which direction this was going to take! In the beginning I felt like the story grabbed my attention and I was expecting the story to go one way, as it continued it took a turn and I actually enjoyed the story's ending more than what I was thinking. Any thriller fans who like psychological, page turning stories would love this one!

Someone Like You by Elena Frost was an excellent book, it was well written from start to finish and a great page turner. Once I started to read the first few pages on my kindle I could not put it down. I want to find out more about Carey Billingham is the main character and she buys Saltwick, a run-down coastguard station on the edge of the North York moors, she thinks it’s the perfect chance for her and her young son Riley to start over.

Now, finally Carey has escaped from her controlling ex-husband and his awful terrifying family. But, from here on out, it’s just her, Riley, and oceans of peace and quiet and now living in beautiful surroundings and breathing in fresh air everyday.

Or so she hopes.

The renovations are slow and becoming expensive and Carey's money is becoming tight. Now, Saltwick ihas become a targeted by vandals and arsonists and Carey has no idea why someone is out to sabotage her new life. and business!!!

But by who?

And why is Carey's new home and business that hasn't had a chance to get off the ground!?

WoW. this book is full of brilliant twists and turns throughout and I loved reading it especially as Elena is a new author to me and it will not be the last book I read by her. I enjoyed the way she writes and had me glued to my kindle.

I highly recommend this book.

Big Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for y ARC.

Someone Like You by Elena Frost is a mystery/thriller debut that is atmospheric, dramatic and suspenseful.

When Carey finally breaks free from her ex husband, she is looking for a chance to start her life over again with her young son Riley. When she buys Saltwick, a dilapidated coast guard station, Carey is ready for a change of scenery and peace and quiet from here on out. But buying a property like Saltwick comes with its own problems. The renovations are costing much more than expected, and her rental guests are a pain. Add in a touch of vandalism, arson and a man from her past, and Carey's new start is turning into a nightmare.

Wow... Poor Carey could not catch a break!! They say when it rains it pours and it's safe to say this is true for Carey. The book starts off a bit slow, but soon I was flipping the pages, needing to know what happened next! The twists were not predictable, which I liked. Another thing I appreciated was the representation of an autistic child, which is usually not seen as often. Overall I think this is perfect for fans of suspenseful thrillers and compulsive reads!!

Thank you to NetGalley, Elena Frost, and Inkubator Books for this ARC!! Publication date is May 11th 2025.

This was so well written, moving along quickly and characters were very believable. What a lovely idea to buy a lighthouse, had me thinking for myself! The few "dark" characters in this book made the reader want to keep turning the page., even little Max played his part! A great read and will be looking out for more from this author.
Many thanx to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for allowing me to read and review this book.

My first time reading this author's work and I really liked this one! It was a gripping thriller!

There was a lot going on in this book, I mean Carey a single mother with an autistic son moved to a vacant home, she started having major issues from money woes to struggling with fixing up the home. She really was looking to start a new life. She started to experience creepy things like ghost and vandalism to the property.
The book was a good short book with lots of twist and fast paced!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing the EArc

Thank you to the publisher for an arc copy of this book. It was very stressful and suspenseful but I couldn’t put it down. Casey & her son ended up with the happy ending they deserved.

Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I think Someone Like You is a good book for a debut. There were some very slow parts but other parts that had my interest. I think there were too many mysteries that were trying to factored in and that is where I found myself losing interest but overall a good ready.

Elena Frost’s Someone Like You is a gripping, emotionally-charged story that blends domestic drama with psychological suspense, drawing readers into the chaotic and unraveling life of its protagonist, Carey. Full of secrets, tension, and scandal, the novel explores the fragile line between resilience and breakdown with nuance and empathy.

Carey is a compelling central figure—deeply sympathetic and utterly human. As a single mother struggling to care for her son while navigating legal threats from her ex’s family and a growing sense of psychological instability, her story pulls readers into a spiraling storm of doubt and desperation. Frost excels at portraying the mental toll of isolation, stress, and emotional trauma, making Carey’s fears feel real and immediate.

The plot moves at a steady pace, revealing layers of personal conflict, manipulation, and buried truths. The emotional weight of Carey’s journey is balanced by moments of tension and uncertainty, keeping the reader unsure of who to trust—and whether Carey can even trust herself.

Someone Like You is a sharply observed, emotionally resonant novel that will appeal to readers who enjoy domestic thrillers with a psychological edge. With strong character work and a steady undercurrent of suspense, Frost delivers a powerful tale of survival, motherhood, and the complexity of truth.

I really enjoyed this debut book! In fact, I couldn't put it down. I decided to temporarily abandon other reads in order to finish this one as quickly as possible, and that rarely happens to me. I do suggest picking this one up for a quick, fun mystery read.

So, in this book, we follow Carey, a single mother who is looking for a fresh start with her son - so she moves to an abandoned property on the seaside. From there, we see her struggling with some mundane things, like renovations and money issues, and some... well, creepy and wild things, like ghosts and deranged vandalism.

I have to say, this book would have been perfect if there had been less mysteries and stories to follow. I am a critical reader, so I was a bit sad when I realized that some things were mentioned and never explored or explained.

Still, it was a short book and it was wild, in the best way. I just wanted Carey to get a breath and my god she just couldn't! This was fun, fast-paced, and intriguing. You should definitely give this book a try - you won't regret it!

Someone Like You by Elena Frost is a mysterious thriller where everything goes wrong!
If you think your life is rubbish and things are not going well, read this book and believe, you will love your life!
I believe that Carey would swap places with anyone because her new life, which was supposed to be her long-cherished dream, turns into a dark, unexpected nightmare where everything goes wrong. And I mean - EVERYTHING!

At the same point, I literally was rolling my eyes and thought, just give her a break! How much can one person take?

The start of the book is more domestic, but the second part of the book turns into an intense thriller.

I loved it!

Thank you NetGalley and Inkubator Books for this copy!

I just finished reading this book. I loved it! I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style with the touch of English to it, I love the history of lighthouses, the character growth of Carey and strength as a single mom staying strong is inspiring. I thought it was well written although longer chapters there didn't feel to be any confusing twists. It kept me wanting to finish the book to see how it ended. I tried to also leave a review on Amazon but I cannot find this book or author on there (yet). I look forward to hearing about any other books she writes. 5 stars all the way!

Someone Like You is a deeply atmospheric book, full of interesting characters and plot twists. It left me feeling on edge, with my heart racing and needing to turn those pages faster and faster.

Carey and her autistic son Riley have recently moved to Saltwick, a dilapidated lighthouse complex, where they hope to start a new life following Carey’s ex-husband’s jail sentence. The setting was brilliant, conveying super creepy vibes, which only increased exponentially when more and more scary things started happening. I really warmed to Carey and her son and was rooting for them throughout. The explanations at the end made complete sense and tied things up perfectly. This is an excellent debut and I look forward to reading more by Elena Frost.

Thank you to Elena Frost, Inkubator Books and Netgalley for my advance copy.

Carey and her autistic son, Riley move to the property she has bought.
It is the location of an old disused lighthouse. She has Will, a contractor, to do the renovations. From the moment she moves in, there is senseless vandalism, and her son sees 'ghosts'. Carey believes she is losing her mind.

This was an extremely slow plot. The characters aren't well developed, and there is too much mystery about their back stories. Nothing is really explained.
Carey is obviously haunted by something in her past, and her father's disappearance from her life isn't explained at all. Only his reappearance, obviously because he is terminally ill.

This is a debut novel for this author, and it could have been so much better.
The author tries to weave mystery into every page, but it really falls a bit flat.

I award it 2/5 stars/5, rounded up to 3.

Definitely a good first attempt. I did struggle to follow along a little bit, but I am sure the future books by Elena Frost will be great, but for a debut book it is good.

3.25/5 stars! This is a debut thriller novel by author Elena Frost. It was hard to get a grasp on what the author was trying to accomplish in this book. There was just a lot going on between her ex, the "man in the yellow raincoat" and the arson. I think the plot suffered because of this. Trimming one of the twists out could have made the story more cohesive. However, a solid first attempt and I would read more by the author.

Well! I flew through that! An intense gripping psychological thriller that was very hard to put down.

I particularly enjoyed the representation of an autistic child. Not something you see very often in a book and as a mum myself of autistic children I thought it was very well done and not laid on too thick.

I found the whole book very entertaining thank you for letting me read it early.

Someone Like You by Elena Frost introduces readers to Isaac and Brody, two characters whose journey through trauma and healing forms the emotional core of the narrative. The novel delves into themes of mental health and personal growth, offering moments that are both touching and heartfelt.
However, while the story has its strengths, it doesn't fully deliver on its potential. The pacing can be uneven, with certain sections feeling drawn out, and the character development, particularly of the protagonists, lacks depth. Some readers have noted that the characters felt somewhat flat, making it challenging to form a strong connection with them.
Additionally, the dialogue occasionally comes across as simplistic, and the narrative sometimes leans heavily into melodrama, which might not appeal to all readers. Despite these issues, the book does offer a sincere exploration of its central themes and could resonate with those looking for a story about healing and connection.
In summary, Someone Like You presents a heartfelt narrative with commendable intentions but falls short in execution. It's a decent read for those interested in stories of emotional recovery, but it may not leave a lasting impression

✨ ARC READ ✨

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me the ARC.

This was genuinely a brilliant thriller, and not like any I have read before.
It's fast paced and the plot line is good and it has you second guessing yourself at every TURN. And the plot twist at the end is so good and makes everything click into place.

I cannot wait to own a physical copy of the book once it's published!
