Jake is new to school, and it turns out so is his new teacher, Mr. Hyde. Mr. Hyde is a kind, caring teacher who makes learning fun; as opposed to the principal who delights in the suffering of the children and makes hundreds of rules to get them in trouble. But Mr. Hyde has a secret, and when he suddenly morphs into a weird creature after a classroom accident, will the students be able to turn him back before the principal finds out? This is a silly little chapter book that has plenty of toilet humor, nonsensical wild events, clear messages about how we should treat others, and a simple plot to get children engaged with reading. It was not on the same level as, say, Captain Underpants, but it was fun and fast-paced enough that I read it in one sitting. I am just now realizing as I type this that Mr. Hyde is a nod to "Jekyll and Hyde," and am kicking myself for not noticing it while reading. I will be checking out the other books in this series for sure.

It's not often you find a children's book that can make adults laugh too. This is an ideal unisex (will most definitely appeal to boys) in the 7 to 11 age group so, good for reluctant readers and also one that parents might enjoy their child reading to them or vice versa.

Funny, a bit naughty and I really like the concept of the teacher being the mischievous one and the kids having to hide him when he transforms. I see this has become a series now so will be interesting to read more and see how each book changes and add to the story.
