I received this audiobook ARC from Netgalley for my honest opinion.

Between the Sheets cover

Synopsis

This is the true story of a woman who discovered a fascinating new way of living, refreshingly different to the rat race she had become trapped in.

This new world was full of machoism, sexism and a complete lack of political correctness. Brizo entered a world where she was constantly surprised that being her filthy and inappropriate self was instantly accepted and even welcomed. She had glided into the world of sailing.

The rough and rugged unkempt sailor types kept her dripping wet both in and out of the water. While Brizo was frustrated with the sexism that exists on deck, she was pleasantly surprised to discover that women are respected for taking charge down below.

She found herself in a world where women were given credit for having many lovers and for being assertive in the bedroom.

I suppose when the ratio of men is so much higher than that of women, a sailor is grateful he's secured a mermaid on his hook.

Review:

I hate to say this but I can only give this audiobook 2 stars. I tried so hard to like the book, however, the author was the narrator and it sounded more like she was reading a technical math problem. I could not finish the book due to how horrible the narration was. I think the story would have been really good if it was done the right way. I commend the author for sharing her story and narrating her own book.

I really like the cover, and the description sounded really interesting. I was excited to read this but I just could not get into it. I found that the narrator was hard to listen to, didn’t feel very fluid. Her lack of emotion or enthusiasm, while talking about such sexual topics made it hard to get into it. I wonder if I would have enjoyed this more by reading it physically or digitally. Ended up DNFing cause I couldn’t find the urge to listen to it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Book Review: Between the Sheet by Madame Butterfly
⭐ 3.5 stars

Between the Sheet was a fun, spicy, and surprisingly witty collection that I genuinely enjoyed. I gave it 3.5 stars—not because it was unforgettable, but because it did exactly what I wanted in the moment. The stories weren’t all interconnected, which actually worked in its favor for me. I could pop it on while working or doing chores, and I was instantly caught up in whichever scenario the next story brought.

There’s a certain sailor-at-sea charm in the storytelling, mixed with flirtatious banter and steamy scenes that didn’t take themselves too seriously. It gave just enough spice without losing its playful edge.

While I don’t think this book will live rent-free in my head, it was the kind of audiobook that made me smile and kept me entertained. For anyone looking for something light, cheeky, and perfect for multitasking, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a shot.

I wanted to like this book, but the narration was hard to listen to. Not very fluid, and the story was lacking. There was no build up. I was ready for the book to finish.

Sorry, I wanted to like this story. Proud of the author for sharing their story but it wasn’t for me.

I really wanted to like this title but I had the audiobook version and the narrator did not work for me. Even though she was reading very spicy material, based on her enthusiasm, she could have been reading an accounting textbook. It completely took away from the storyline and any enjoyment I had from listening.

I'm sorry I don't have anything positive to say.

I received an audio arc and couldn't power through til the end. The description of the story sounded great, but the book was not good. It feels like a journal written by a horny teen. It really just gave me the ick. And I've read some really bad erotica in the past. The author narrated the book herself and it's very flat.

I was intrigued by the description of this book and typically enjoy erotica. Additionally, I was curious about it being a memoir/autobiography, offering a glimpse into the sailing life as a woman. However, I had a very hard time with this book. To give it a fair chance, I actually finished it by listening at 1.75X speed because the author's narration felt slow and awkward.

I respect her for writing about her experiences, particularly in the face of stigma surrounding personal sexual freedom and society's judgment. That said, the book didn’t deliver as a compelling or erotic experience for me. There was no overarching storyline, just a series of sexual encounters with various people that felt shallow. There was no buildup or anticipation to care about any of the people involved, and there wasn’t any insight into life on a boat in a male-dominated industry, which I was hoping for.

The stories might have worked better if some of the encounters were consolidated or if fewer people were involved, allowing for more depth and a cohesive narrative. While I understand it’s a memoir, I didn’t feel like there was a clear 'point' to the story—no personal growth, no discovery, just a series of disconnected moments. It felt more like it could be a short article in an X-rated magazine rather than a full-length book.

It could definitely benefit from being edited down to half the length. Once again, I commend the author for her bravery in sharing her story, but it feels like it could have benefited from better editing, guidance, or mentorship.

Overall, I do not recommend this book.

I loved the cover and was intrigued the author narrated the book. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish the book. While I can appreciate the true stories of the author the writing left me lacking. It seems like a journal of someone’s private thoughts and I didn’t feel connected to the characters.

Thanks to Netgalley for the audiocopy cause I could not have the patience to read such boring book. A woman in a world of masochism & sexism finding her power in her sensuality seemed intriguing. But sadly, the more the story went, the more boring & more repetitive it got. A cheap entertainment but not too much exciting.

Between the Sheets is a candid memoir that explores the author's erotic adventures while sailing across the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Mediterranean. It’s a raw, unfiltered look at her life at sea, embracing freedom and breaking societal norms. While some readers find the storytelling uneven, it offers a unique, personal take on self-discovery and life outside the ordinary.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything positive to say. I could not make it through the book. I stopped during chapter 3.

The narration quality was bad. The voice overs for the dialogues was odd, as was the announcement for transitions in chapters.

The content was cringe. I understand this is erotica, but describing the boat as having a "wide girth and big central helm" was sexual for no reason. The descriptions were equally bad. Her labia was swelling with each step? She teased him what she imaged was her goddess-looking body?

I would scrap this entirely. I'm sorry. I really wish I could over more constructive feedback, but it was genuinely *that* bad.

I was intrigued by the premise of this book. Right away, the audio was lacking any feeling, depth or emotion. It might be better as book that I could read and imagine the voices. Either way, the writing lacked depth and spice. While there were "sex scenes" it really lacked some build up and intimacy. I really wanted to like some parts of it but I could not find any way to connect with the characters or writing. The audio is really hurting this book. I would not release this audio version unless it is redone to try and give the writing some opportunity to shine. I obtained a free version of the audio through Net Galley and just could not finish it - yikes.

These stories are all super fun, and would be great to hear on a girls night out with the author. I can see why her friends told her to write a book.

Unfortunately, it didn’t translate to the page very well. The blurb makes it sound like this is a well crafted narrative examining the complexities of being a woman on a ship, and the reality doesn’t have the nuance or reflection.

Title: Between the Sheets
Author: Madame Butterfly
Rating: 2 Stars / DNF at 23%
Format: Audiobook (ARC)
Review:

Between the Sheets caught my attention immediately with its premise: a bold, real-life account of a female sailor exploring the world through sexual escapades with her crewmates. I was ready for something empowering, steamy, and unconventional.

However, after reaching 23%, I’ve decided to put this one down.

The audiobook narration unfortunately didn’t help—it lacked emotion and polish. It felt more like someone reading for the first time, and the pacing often reminded me I was listening to someone turning pages rather than pulling me into a story.

The writing style also felt amateur and repetitive. While I appreciate that it’s based on true events, the book read more like a series of loosely connected encounters than a developed narrative. I would’ve loved to see even a light storyline or emotional arc to tie the scenes together and make the erotica more impactful. Instead, I found myself zoning out and not feeling any real connection to the narrator or her experiences.

This may work for readers who want something raw and unfiltered, but it just wasn’t for me. I admire the author’s vulnerability in sharing her story—it simply didn’t resonate in the way I hoped it would.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this ARC.

Honestly quite disappointing. The writing is basic-dare I say below average, it’s very simple and descriptive.
The dialogues are very dull and boring, it’s all very surface level and nothing really interesting-on the other hand, most of it is boring and borderline cringe. The storyline is basically nonexistent, it’s basically just smut. That wouldn’t be the issue if the smut was any good, however this is very boring and not interesting. It’s mostly just descriptive of the acts but there rarely ever is any build up and it’s not written in a captive manner. It is also very repetitive-both in the phrases used as well as the situations. It just feels like reading a diary who is just sleeping around without any extra excitement or emotion. I get that this is supposed to be autobiographical but after reading the synopsis I was expecting much more of this. The part about Jeremy felt sort of predatory and other parts also set off the alarm bells.
There are also some mistakes- for instance it’s not Slovakian-it’s Slovak, that’s basic knowledge and should have been checked and corrected during edits.
Not to mention that the audio isn’t the best-the chapters are not cut properly and each NetGalley chapter includes multiple of the actual chapters. The narration also is not the best, some parts should have been re-recorded as you can clearly hear whenever the narrator stumbled or got lost in the text.
Overall it felt like reading a diary of a horny teenage boy with the vocabulary of a forty year old.

DNF - this audio is just not good.. I like the idea of this book but the editing and narration needs work. I couldn’t keep listening.

DNF @ 20%

Between the Sheets by "Madame Butterfly" was horrible. I love reading spicy books, but this is not that. There's no substance to it, it's nothing more than her bragging about her conquests, making immature and questionable decisions. What made it so I could take no more were her regular stumbling over the words that she wrote and her uneven tone. This would have benefitted from a professional narrator, but, again, due to the lack of substance, just barely.

Memoir + Erotica? I was intrigued.

I hope I have some constructive feedback.
The audiobook was rough. The transition/silence/static at the beginning of each chapter is jarring. The sentence structure is overly "he did this. I did that. He did this. I did that." As the reader it didn't translate into feelings of lust or arousal. Instead, it felt like a history textbook, but with detailed sexual escapades.

I am so glad the author had these experiences and gives representation to women having lots of consensual no strings sex. The author being the narrator though instead of a voice actor leads to choppy sentences devoid of emotion.

For a book with so much sex parts of the audiobook kept ruining the illusion and felt ultimately sterile and unsexy.

DNF at 18% I was really curious about this since it was "true"... This was not good and I would not recommend. The narration was monotone and had no emotion and there was almost no plot. This was six hours of a collection of sexcapade stories while she sailed the sees. I was less than 2 minutes before the shenanigans begins.....With thanks and apologies to NetGalley for an ALC.
