I was provided with this book from the publishers free of charge for my honest review. I am so impressed by the layout and organization of this book. The synopsis of each crime is succinct and informational, the layout allows you to learn about each location in numerous ways, be it through synopsis of each crime, the type of crime, restaurants and accommodations at each location or a thorough tour of each region created by the author with maps included. The amount of information available in this guide.is incredible for any true crime junkie!

This was a very interesting book. It covered so many types of true crime places including haunted ones. I could have done with fewer places included if it had been more in depth.

This is a travel guide for New England, but its not your typical travel guide, this guide is for crime lovers. You find out where crimes occurred, where to eat, and stay in New England, to satisfy the true crime lover. This was an interesting read.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. This was a very in depth book about the various murders that have occurred in New England. It lets you in on how depraved people can be. I wasn’t sure what the timeline would be but it runs the gamut from 1700s all the way upto recent years.

A comprehensive New England travel guide for true crime aficionados. Very well-researched and useful if traveling in that area. The guide breaks down true crime events in each state and even includes some sample itineraries. I loved that there were suggested true crime books based in those areas as well. Other relevant features are true crime tours, accommodations, restaurants and even a list of prisons and cemeteries. I also appreciated the break down of local victim resources.

I love this book!! The idea and execution was fantastic. I think this book was done so well and I am so excited to see some new places. This book is perfect for someone who likes to travel, likes spooky things and the information is all in this book. Such a good idea and well researched.

A really great piece of informative work with all cited sources and great research put into it. I did notice a few disparities between small details of crimes versus what was reported, but the author does link their (and plenty other) resources for further investigation. I must say I have never seen this format before, and I do wish it had more flow to it rather than being super short paragraphs and then tons of links - but I do understand that the book must briefly cover topics, as it is a trip focused book. I found out plenty of crimes I had not heard of, and most importantly some history of new England's OTHER witch trials besides Salem which I did not know of previously.

I do not know if at times this crosses the line of disrespectful, as it lists the burial sites/murder sites of victims that I find concerning. It does provide tons of resources for victims/reporting/and victims aid. I guess it is just delivering on what is promised. I do wish it went more into the ghost tours, etc.

Overall. 3.7! I really liked it. And it made me think and look into a lot of cases and their relevant history.

The piece was a captivating read, offering a comprehensive exploration of various haunted locations and real-life true crime cases. It meticulously narrates events that occurred decades ago, supplemented by well-documented website links that enrich the book with historical depth and authenticity.

ISince my kids were little, we've always found the spots where shady things have happened. Vacations Can Be Murder was an interesting read.
I hope the author does some other areas. This was very interesting, and while a non fiction. it read smoothly, and it kept me turning the pages.

Vacations can be murder but reading all about it can be even more interesting. Despite not being a new phenomena true crime is in it's heyday right now thanks to all the documentaries and podcasts. This book adds to the genre with well curated stories about hauntings, crimes, others shady goings on across New England.
I am a travel lover and I love true crime so it worked out well for me. This wasn't my typical genre but Barclay kept it interesting. There's a lot of info packed in this and it is very well researched. The author was concise and presented the materiel in a way that made me feel like I was on a guided tour she was giving. I would love to see Barclay cover more areas in the country like the Midwest or the South. I tend to lean more into the history aspect but it was a fascinating read nonetheless.

Vacations Can Be Murder is a well-researched book that includes destinations (sightseeing, tours, prisons, burial sights, hotels, and restaurants) related to true crime cases or hauntings. The author includes addresses, websites, and phone numbers of destinations to help make travel planning easier. The author also creates pre-planned itineraries of must-see cities and locations.

This book had way more information than I was expecting! I definitely will be using a guide or two or three on my next trip to the New England area!

I wasn't sure what to expect but love murder docs and live here. This is more like a book that just gives brief background and then lists where these places are. It will be a great tool on visiting some of these places.

Vacations Can Be Murder describes a series of true crime events that occurred in every state in New England. It also provides itineraries for guided tours and resources to be used if you wanted to learn more about the different crimes/location.

This was very informative and I enjoyed getting a look into the different crimes that occurred in New England. I think next time I go to New England, I'll be following one of these guided tour itineraries. 4/5 stars.

I loved this book. Great book on “New England “ come and murders. The way the book is structured only adds to the subject matter. Information provide by the state then city. List of places to visit and eat for each state. There is even a list of tours as well as links to different sources offered per state. I will be looking for other books by this author. Thanks to Nethalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book. Receiving this book in this manner has no bearing on my review.

This is a conglomeration of stories, mini histories, short tales, and information that pertains to haunted places across the vastness of New England. Ideally all this information will be sourced in local libraries but the author did a fantastic job putting it all together. You can find out about everything haunted and where bouts across Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. The organization is formulaic by type and subtype to find several types of haunted places. I wanted more historical context to the information but that can be explored further through personal research. This is a great compilation of all things haunted and spooky in new England but does not give the degree of depth that separates it from other travel guides. I also wanted more of the authors voice and how she would give such tours if she were the official guide.
