Great juicy murder mystery
The ladies in the estate agents at Harringtons are all one big happy family - or are they? Soon it becomes clear there is plenty of plotting and scheming and then murder! An enjoyable book sometimes a little far-fetched but I don’t think it’s been meant to take quite as seriously as some people think. It’s a good read.

A murder whodunnit with a modern twist, a cast full of dislikeably lovable characters and murder hiding in offices. A riotous bloody tale and so much fun.

received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange
For an honest review. A solid 3 stars, the story was ok, with twists and the pacing was fine I just didn’t like any of the characters so I struggled a bit. Having said that I would try another book from this author as the writing was good

Another hilarious 5 star comedy from Kate Weston!
I love the books you just can’t put down because you are sucked into the humour and feel good vibes - and this has it!

I really enjoyed this comicaly dark thriller called How to Make a Killing (kindle edition) by Kate Weston. This is my first time reading a thriller by Kate Weston.
Bella, Hannah, Olivia and their boss Amanda work as estate agents. They all have secrets and murder is on some of their minds.
Bella, Hannah and Olivia are vying for the position of office manager and there is a lot of bickering which escalates on to social media.
The frame above Amanda's chair depicts 'There is no limit to what we, as women can accomplish'.
And indeed how true these words will come to fruition in more ways than one.
I loved the fantastic twist at the end of this thriller it was so unexpected too.

Struggled to get into this book but a friend of mine read it in a day and loved it. Maybe I will purchase this book and try again

I purposely saved this to read on my holiday as I knew it would be the perfect pool side read! I read You May Now Kill The Bride last year and found it to be such a fun, entertaining read. How to Make a Killing was just as fun and I enjoyed it even more!
Set in an all female staffed estate agents, bitchiness runs high between the competitive colleagues. When one woman, Bella is found dead at an open house everyone is a suspect. As the story moves along more secrets are revealed and I enjoyed trying to figure out “whodunnit” and why!
Weston achieves the perfect blend of humour, mystery and silliness in her books and I am so here for it! An excellent holiday read!

An excellent darkly humorous tale that blends crime and farce.
Every character is flawed, thoroughly unlikeable, and constantly scheming against the others. I loved it.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I’ve just finished this and read it in a day - couldn’t put it down! Great twisty plot and well drawn characters. It kept me guessing right to the denouement - and my guess was wrong! The characters were multi dimensional; you’d go from sympathy to dislike in seconds. The setting was well researched and the perfect place for a multiple murder mystery. After all, we know how untrustworthy estate agents are!
The perfect holiday read with some depth but not too taxing. I’d definitely read books by this writer again. Thank you #netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this one,

The plot is clever and fast-paced, with twists that kept me hooked. The dark wit adds an edge to the story, making it entertaining If you like thrillers with drama and humor. It’s a must read.

Welcome to Harrington’s Estate Agents, where the women wear designer heels, flash their perfect smiles, and would quite literally kill for the best listings.
Bella is the ambitious newcomer willing to tread on any perfectly pedicured toes to get to the top. Hannah was the star agent, but Bella’s rise is stealing her spotlight (and her awards). Olivia wants the perfect career and family, but someone seems determined to take it all away. Then there’s Claire, who can’t keep track of her keys… and Bella makes sure everyone knows it.
When Bella is found dead at an open house for a £10-million mansion, everyone becomes a suspect. In a place where backstabbing is practically part of the job description, who finally went too far?
I adored How to Make a Killing. With sharp dark humour, deliciously catty characters, and twists galore, it’s the perfect mix of murder and mayhem. The characters are so unlikeable you can’t help but enjoy every single one of them.

This was such an entertaining read! The subject matter is dark and murder is abound - though the victim, Bella, is an awful character and probably deserved all she got!
The book is set around an estate agents with an all female staff who are truly awful to each other - bitchy and backstabbing, fake and disingenuous - I wouldn't trust any of them. I was thoroughly entertained and truly appalled at their relationships.
Darkly satirical, this is not a story to be taken seriously, but was good fun. The characters are more caricature than relatable at times - all have dark secrets that they don't want the others to know about, and would cheerfully backstab a 'friend' to get on in life.
An amusing read despite all the death. You will definitely have met people that these characters remind you of - just hopefully not all at the same time!

Sadly this just wasn’t for me but I can see why people would like it. It had some good wit and it was interesting but did fall flat for me however this is a genre that I find hit or miss and sadly for me it was a miss

"How to Make a Killing" by Kate Weston is an absolute blast—part sharp corporate satire, part murder mystery, all wrapped up in a glamorous, cutthroat world I couldn’t get enough of. Set in the high-stakes universe of Harrington Estates, this book offers a wickedly funny look at the women vying for power, prestige, and—let’s be honest—survival in a competitive real estate office that’s as glamorous as it is ruthless.
From the moment Bella storms in with her stilettos and attitude, I knew I was in for a wild ride. She’s the kind of character you love to hate—driven, ambitious, and completely unapologetic about stepping on toes (or heels) to get ahead. But just as I was starting to form opinions about her, she was unexpectedly found dead at an open house—talk about a plot twist! Suddenly, everyone’s a suspect, and Weston keeps the suspense tight with clever red herrings and surprises that kept me guessing right up until the final pages.
What really made this book shine for me was Weston’s razor-sharp wit and humour. The dialogue is punchy, the satire is biting, and I loved how she skewers influencer culture, office politics, and the pretensions of the luxury real estate world. The characters are deeply flawed and messy—just like real women in competitive environments—and each one feels believable despite the glamorous veneer. I found myself switching between favourites and least favourites as the story unfolded, especially as the chaos intensified.
The story balances dark comedy with genuine suspense, and I appreciated how Weston doesn’t shy away from exploring the underlying tensions—insecurities, ambitions, resentments—that simmer beneath the polished surface. The mystery is cleverly woven into the narrative, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the high-powered drama.
Overall, this debut was the perfect weekend read—fast-paced, hilarious, and downright addictive. It’s a smart, stylish, and sharply observed satire of women’s rivalry and ambition, with a killer twist that left me smiling and shook up. If you love female-led thrillers with biting humour, a glamorous setting, and a plot that keeps you guessing, "How to Make a Killing" deserves a top spot on your TBR. It’s the kind of book that makes you laugh out loud while secretly rooting for chaos—and I loved every minute of it.

Such a great book! Kept me guessing, wrongly, until the very end, absolutely loved it!
Thank you to the author, publisher and netgalley for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

I love the title of this book, this what has caught my eye at first and then the synopsis was also very promising. And it's not a bad book, but maybe not this, what I have expected? In the end it felt so surrealistic somehow and I've always had this feeling of scepticism, as it felt so far away from reality.
It was also a very, very long book and everything was told in a very detailed way - a bit too much for me, I need some space to imagine and not to be told only.
Personally, I didn't find any dark humour in this story, rather more bitchiness, that's for sure. Nevertheless, I think the author achieved what she wanted to achieve, namely that you couldn't trust any of the characters (especially with your house keys, ha!) and the end will take you by surprise.
However, it turned out not to be the book that I expected, we simply didn't gel.

This was so much fun. There was a lot of dark humour in this story and I loved it. Being rich and having a seemingly perfect life isn't always what it appears to be, as the ladies ar Harringtons Estate Agents found out. The victim surprised me, my money was on someone else, and then I spent the whole book guessing (incorrecrly) who dunnit! I got it right at the last second (about 2 words before it was revealed). Such a good storyline with a great big plot twist at the end. Would.highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good murder mystery.

As a massive fan of Selling Sunset I had high expectations for this book. It kept me guessing right up until the end with every one of my guesses turning out to be wrong. An amusing take on the thriller genre which made it very easy to read. I would definitely recommend this.

I've been getting into whodunnit stories recently so this was an enjoyable read.
I love that it was set in estate agents, not the industry you'd expect!
It kept me guessing right to the end. Would be a great holiday read.

Absolutely loved this book, a gripping thriller that kept me guessing until the very end. I would definitely read more books from this author
