Another great case for Morgan Brookes and Ben. Love this series and to see what she gets up to next. Plenty of twists and turns and suspense to keep me hooked. Well rounded characters. Great writing style. Didn’t guess the culprit which was a big plus for me. Eagerly awaiting the next adventure. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

This book was highly addictive. If you need sleep I do not recommend you start this book at night because you read just one more chapter until you finish it.

This killer is beyond depraved. The entire story was chilling and horrifying, but this is what you get when you are reading about a serial killer. This killer's only downfall is that now Detective Morgan Brookes has his scent. She is like a dog with a bone once she gets started on a case.

Detective Morgan Brookes is one of my favorite fictional characters because she is highly intelligent, fearless and sassy. She has had more than her share of brushes with death, but she still looks out for the underdog and believes in justice. This one hits a little close to home for Morgan.

If you enjoy an addictive mystery with a little chill to it, you will enjoy this one.

“Twisted Bones” - Helen Phifer

Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️

What caught my attention was the titlr of the book, “Twisted Bones.” I’m intrigued in anthropology and forensic science, so I just knew this book was the perfect fit for me. Unfortunately, while the book was a good read, it didn’t hold up to my expectations. “Twisted Bones” follows a criminal case in which a woman who is frozen shows up in a local river and the local police are trying to find out who this missing/dead woman is, which leads to finding out about another missing woman. While this is happening, there are possible suspects who are brought throughout the storyline until all of a sudden there’s a turn of events; which of course we’re all waiting to happen for anyways. I think at this point, it was just too drawn out as far as who the possible suspect was and by then, I was starting to think it was someone who was completely innocent. Since this is a series based on Detective Morgan Brookes, there was other topics brought up in the book in which I wasn’t familiar with and it left me slightly confused. This definitely had no impact on my rating, but I’d be interested in reading the series from the beginning, to learn more about Detective Morgan Brookes. Her character in “Twisted Bones” showed bravery, dedication, hard worker, and much more.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC of Helen Phifer “Twisted Bones.”

I just can't get enough of this series. As I write this review, I'm thinking, "When is the next book going to be released?" Am I addicted to Morgan Brookes? Maybe! I blame it on Helen Phifer. I enjoy all of the characters in this book. The descriptions that come out of Helen's mind are great. I can picture the fells and the path to Aunt Ettie's cottage because of the description that Helen paints. The workplace banter is great, especially given the stress that the characters are all put through. Another awesome book from the mind of Helen Phifer. Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC of Twisted Bones.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the advance copy.

This was another great instalment in the Morgan Brookes series. As always it is full of murder, crime investigation and the characters we have all come to know and love. The book is paced brilliant and the plot will keep you guessing until the end.

I always find this series to be an easy read that keeps me engaged from start to finish. Whilst they are sometimes somewhat predictable, that does not take away from the entertainment value of the books.

Great series for fans of Angela Marsons, Lisa Regan and Wendy Dranfield.

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Twisted Bones’, book 15 in the Detective Morgan Brookes series written by Helen Phifer, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

While walking in Covel Woods Aunt Ettie finds a body caught up in a tree branch in the river and urgently rings her niece DC Morgan Brookes who, along with DS Ben Matthews, start the exhausting retrieval of the body and the identity. Just as they think they’ve found the person responsible, another body is found and one of their team becomes involved in a fight for life.

‘Twisted Bones’ is another exciting thriller in this addictive series where once again DC Morgan Brookes is working day and night to identify the victims and find the person responsible, as well as finding time to spend with her partner DS Ben Matthews. There’s plenty of suspense, twists and turns, heart-pounding dramatic moments, as well as a number of possible suspects, before they finally identify the killer who’s the last person they’d have expected it to be. I recommend this well-written and very exciting thriller that’s had me hooked from the first page to the last, unable to put my Kindle down until I got to the epilogue and had all the loose ends tied up.

Twisted Bones is the 15th book in the Detective Morgan Brookes series by Helen Phifer. This was another very good read from this author. When Aunt Ettie finds a body in the river near her home, Morgan rushes to the scene. What follows is a whodunit story line, and one that I would recommend to others.

I received and ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, and I am leaving my review voluntarily..

Well I’m late to the Helen Phifer party but I’m so happy to be here! A great cast of characters kept me flipping pages long past my bedtime. This was so dark and creepy and I loved it. Don’t let this gem pass you by.
Thank you NetGalley, Helen Phifer and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book.

The fifteenth book in the Morgan Brookes series is just as fresh as the first one. The characters are well developed and very likeable, especially Aunt Ettie, one of my favourites. This one finds Morgan investigating the discovery of a woman's body found near her aunt's cottage. It's a really good bit of plotting, with a few red herrings thrown in and there is plenty of suspense. I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for Morgan and her partner Ben. I can highly recommend the series. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

Another brilliant book in one of my favourite series
Morgan is shocked when she gets a call from her Aunt Ettie to say she has found a body near her cottage in the woods.
Morgan and the team race to the woods and are confused by what they find. The woman’s hand is skeletal but the rest of her body looks as if she died recently.
Their enquiries take them down some interesting paths and whilst Theo is still recovering from the attack, he has some information that’s key to the investigation as he knew the victim many years ago.
When another body is found, Morgan is determined to catch the killer. However, when someone close to her goes missing Morgan is desperate with worry.
This is a gripping crime thriller that definitely kept me guessing who the killer was.
Highly recommended.
Thanks to Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

Twisted Bones kicks off with a bang when Detective Morgan Brookes is called to her aunt’s cottage, where human bones have just been pulled from the nearby river. What starts out as a puzzling discovery quickly turns into something far more sinister. The remains belong to a woman who went missing years ago, but the evidence suggests she died much more recently. As Morgan digs into the case, she finds unsettling connections to other women who vanished without a trace, and soon she’s caught up in a desperate search for a missing schoolteacher who may still be alive.

This was the perfect quick and twisty summer vacay read. It grabbed me right away and didn’t let go. The serial killer angle was creepy in the best way, and I kept flipping pages to see if my guess about the killer was right. Morgan is such a likable, sharp, and determined character. I really wanted her to succeed, and I was fully along for the ride as she pieced everything together. There were plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing right up until the final reveal.

Big thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the chance to read this one in exchange for an honest review. I’m giving it 3-1/2 stars!

You said who's the killer?!😧

I was authentically & totally surprised by the way this story twisted and panned out in the end. For me, that unpredictable quality, aided by some really strong red herrings, is not a must but very desirable in a successful murder mystery. I also liked that the switching POVs included some visits to the killer's mind (and yet STILL I was wrong in guessing his identity!)

I think this is a good series and I like Morgan and her colleagues. But too many oblique references to events in previous stories in the series. Needed either more of an explanation or just no mention. Allusions to prior stories that I may or may not have read in the past few years just distracted from what was happening here and now.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Review shared on 5/13/25 on Goodreads and with Barnes & Noble.

Another great installment in the Morgan Brookes series.
So much going on which means you are kept engaged throughout the story.
(On a side note…where is Morgan and Ben’s relationship going????)
Reading the books in order would be best. There is so much backstory to all the main characters….
I can’t wait to see what Morgan, Ben and their team gets into next!

The storyline was really easy to follow and engaging, i can totally see these books as an ongoing crime tv show! I really love the police banter and the relationships within the force. When the investigation looks like it’s going one way, it then takes you another, keeping you on your toes. I didn’t see the culprit coming or the end until right when Morgan did and I was like What!!
Helen Phifer and the DC Brookes series has become one of my go to easy, fun thrilling reads that you know what your getting in every book that brings comfort and excitement to a read as well as knowing and getting to know the police department Brookes works with and their ongoing relationships.

I love all the TBR and bookish references and book titles I recognised!
The police banter and camaraderie is on point and always fun to read.
Ben and Morgan’s relationship is lovely to read alongside the current investigation as part of the DC Morgan Brookes series. I love Morgan’s edgy and head strong character as the FMC.

Book15 in the series ( I have some back dates I need to read) but I am so excited to read more for the Detective Brookes series.

Thank you NetGalley for my arc copy in return for an honest review.

Great crime thriller series, I know when I pick up one of this authors books I wont be disappointed.... Morgan attracts danger wherever she goes, when a body is found in a river they realise the clothing is stuck on a branch, when it's released it starts to float down the river so Morgan dives straight into the freezing water to recover the body.. Theo the vicar is ha ing problems after he was viciously attacked and left for dead..... womens bodies keep turning up in the river and they are both found by Hettie, Morgans aunt. Is someone on Morgans inner circle committing the murders??? I couldn't never tired of this series, with Morgans antics. Highly recommend

Twisted Bones is book 15 in the Detective Morgan book series by Helen Phifer and another fabulous book in the series.
When Morgan’s Aunt Ettie is walking through Covel Woods she finds a body of a woman in the river with one Skeletal hand. She is shocked to the core. Detective Morgan Brookes rushes to the scene. Thinking that the woman just fell in the lake. She thinks it is an open shut case but further inspection that identified as a homeless woman went missing seven years ago. Morgan is so determined to find the killer when another woman goes missing. There is a race against time to find her and discover the gruesome tale behind it.
This is another unputdownable read more gruesome that the other stories in the series. But still same loveable characters that we have come to love. This is a great read with its addictive storyline and the quality of the writing never falters 5 stars from me.
