I love the tropes advertised for this, and the story seemed very interesting. I just honestly could not get very into the writing. Every sentence feels overdone and absolutely saturated with adjectives. While I enjoyed the idea of the plot, I felt it was incredibly difficult to figure out what was going on with all the extra, unnecessary language.

A big thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc! The Offering Rite has everything I want in a book. A coven of witches, a snarky protagonist, and an enemies to lovers romance. However, I couldn't quite connect with the characters or the plot. I don't regret reading it! But at the end of the day, it just didn't click with me!

This book was such an emotional and immersive read. It drops you into a world full of witches, demigods, rituals, visions of the future, and different magical realms, and once it finds its rhythm, it becomes a truly rich and gripping story. The atmosphere is dark, vivid, and imaginative, with a writing style that feels lush and intense.

One of my favorite parts was the relationship between Narissa and her daughters. Each of them carries so much trauma, and the way the story explores how they all cope differently felt raw and real. Narissa especially stood out to me! She’s such a strong, complex character who’s constantly forced to make impossible choices. Even when her decisions were questionable, I always felt like she was doing the best she could, especially when it came to protecting her daughters.

The romance in this book was also a highlight for me personally. The tension was built up so well, and the love interest felt unique and genuinely likable. Definitely not your typical brooding fantasy lead, but so much better. He was one of my favorite aspects of this book! Their connection added a lot of depth and emotional stakes to the story, without ever taking over the plot.

There are some rough edges, though. The beginning was very abrupt and threw me into the world without much explanation, and with so many characters introduced early on, it was a bit overwhelming. The pacing also dragged a little in the middle, and I found myself wishing Narissa’s magic and the magic system in general had been explained more clearly. Some parts of the writing were a bit hard to follow too. There were stretches of long, winding sentences that made it feel dense and slightly exhausting. That said, I read an ARC version, and I could see it improving in the final copy (it already got better by the middle).

Still, the emotional payoff was worth it. The stakes were high, the ending broke me and then put me back together in the best way, and I’m genuinely excited to see where the series goes next! If you love complex mother-daughter bonds that ache and heal, rich magical worlds filled with witches and visions, and a steamy-yet-sweet romance that burns hot and hits the heart, this one’s for you!
