This book was creepy and twisted, and I loved it! The plot twisted and turned, and each time I thought I had figured it out, I hadn’t.
There were many secrets, lots of secrets and it was gripping throughout. The characters of Charlotte and Sophie I had to work which of characters I disliked more it was definitely Sophie for a multitude of reasons!

Emily Shiner’s What Every Mother Needs is a gripping psychological thriller that I devoured in less than 24 hours—I simply couldn’t put it down. Centered around two compelling women, Charlotte and Sophia, the story weaves a web of secrets, shifting loyalties, and psychological tension that had me second-guessing every assumption.
What makes this book so addictive is the way it masterfully plays with perspective. Both women are hiding dangerous secrets, and I found myself constantly vacillating between siding with one, then the other. Just when I thought I had figured out who was telling the truth, a new twist or subtle clue would upend everything I believed. The dual viewpoints kept me on edge, questioning every interaction and wondering who was truly in control.
What’s more, it wasn’t until I finished the novel that I realized the third key character—the one who ties Charlotte and Sophia together—is only ever seen through their perspectives, including through flashbacks. The realization that we never actually met this man added an extra layer of brilliance to the storytelling and left me reflecting on how cleverly the narrative had been constructed.
Shiner delivers a suspenseful, character-driven story that’s perfect for fans of domestic thrillers with strong female leads, unreliable narrators, and complex emotional undercurrents. What Every Mother Needs is a psychological puzzle I won’t forget anytime soon—and one I’ll be recommending to fellow thriller lovers for a long time.

Amazing book! I read this entire thing in less than 12 hours (and that was with plenty of breaks during that timeframe). It was so gripping, I had to finish it as quickly as possible! Emily is definitely one of my very top favorite authors. Her books never disappoint me. This book roped me in from the very beginning, and it had plenty of twists and turns that kept me hooked until the very end! I thought this book was fantastic, and I believe other readers will enjoy it as well!
