The Ex
Alex Sinclair
🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is my first read by this author but I was so taken with the front cover image, I was definitely excited to jump in and see what this had to offer.
I read a lot of this genre and I feel like I can spot a good psychological thriller cover now and although some of the premises are pretty similar, these work so well that I just can't get enough.
In this story we meet Bianca and Jack who seem to have the perfect life together.
When their neighbours move out, Bianca gets a shock when she realises that the new owner is actually Jack's Ex!
I loved the dual pov chapters which tell the story through Bianca's eyes and an anonymous narrator. I thought it was pretty obvious that the other pov was going to be Nicole, the ex, but as the story develops we see a fair few twists and turns which throw things in their head and kept me guessing right to the big reveal at the end - which I definitely didn't see coming!
The writing style was fast paced and I was so sucked into the storyline that I read almost half the book in one sitting!
I just couldn't put it down!
This is an author that I'll be looking out for in the future and I can't wait to read more.

Superb psychological thriller The Ex by Alex Sinclair especially as it draws in in from the very beginning.
Now. . . . . Could you imagine - You are loving, living in your perfect house with your husband and your two small children and living a perfect life especially as you have great friendly neighbours. . . . What more could you ever ask for. Even your street you live in, is beautiful and so friendly, with neighbours inviting you round for BBQ parties etc.
Then, they tell you they are moving!!!! Someone wanted their house and paid over the odds for it, to get it.
I can see Why they could not turn this offer down!!!
Now, Would you?
WoW. . . . . . . . Nooooooooo!
Then your new neighbour. . . . . is your husband's Ex partner! and she's tried to kill him 18 years ago when he was in college.
WoW. . .. . .Why? and where has she been all these years? and why Now!!!!
This book is so good I was glued to my chair and kindle and I could not put it down! I need to close my mouth!
WoW the ended was jaw dropping!!!! Excellent Book. One of his best!
Many thanks to Joffe Books for the ARC.

I’d give this a solid 4 stars. The story had me hooked from early on, with just enough mystery to keep me turning pages. I liked how the main character’s doubts and emotions felt believable it made it easy to get pulled into her world. The pacing was tight, and the tension kept building in a way that didn’t feel forced. Some of the twists were a little predicable, but I was too invested to mind much. As a reader who loves domestic thrillers, and hard to put down

I very much enjoyed the book and finished it in a few hours. Not very long, quick paced, enjoyed the 18 years ago POV, it just also felt rushed. It needed more 'oomph' that I just didn't feel thoroughly satisfied by the end of the book. It was a solid 3.5 stars/5. I would recommend others read the book, and I do think others would enjoy it even if it was not my cup of tea. I enjoy longer, slow burn whodunnit 's.

Bianca and Jack's apparently perfect life with their two beautiful children is under threat from an obsessive ex-lover who is determined to get Jack back. By any means necessary...
And for a start, that means stalking them in their neighbourhood, and preparing the ground for her planned "takeover"!
This story is well-paced, though the ending felt slightly rushed. Twisty and entertaining, it gets 3.5 stars.

This story had me hooked with the twists and turns. I never knew who to fully trust. I just didnt enjoy the ending. It felt a little rushed.

This book was written so well! I kept telling myself, "Just one more chapter", but then the next chapter pulled me in for "just one more!". I was constantly trying to figure out the story, but there was twist after twist, and the ending was mind blowing!
What a fantastic read!

This book literally hooked me from the start! The authors pacing of this book was impeccable. The twists and turns in this book were insane. This was definitely a solid book and I would definitely recommend reading it!

Your husbands college ex girlfriend moves in next door and you are already having marriage trouble. This sounds like a recipe for disaster! Let’s take it up a notch and the ex next door is a psycho who you have been avoiding ever since college. Full of twists and unreliable narrators kept me guessing throughout the book. There is a mysterious POV from 18 years ago that I had fun guessing who it was. I would recommend this book for anyone who loves a psychological thriller filled with twists!

Such a page turner! A very good book that keeps you occupied. Somethings you can guess, others you can’t! I LOVED this book so well written

🐾🐾🐾🐾 – Twisty, Fast-Paced, and Full of Suspicion
The Ex by Alex Sinclair is a psychological thriller that knows how to keep readers on edge. From the very first chapter, you’re pulled into the unraveling life of a woman whose ex unexpectedly returns—dragging the past right back into her present. What starts as a surprise quickly spirals into a web of secrets, manipulation, and buried trauma.
The pacing is relentless in the best way. Each chapter ends with just enough tension to keep you saying, “Just one more…”—and before you know it, you’re halfway through the book. Sinclair does an excellent job of building paranoia and emotional tension, making you question not only the intentions of the ex, but the reliability of the narrator herself.
The twists? Oh, they’re there—and they come hard and fast. A few might stretch plausibility, but if you’re in it for the thrill ride, you’ll hardly care. This is popcorn fiction at its most binge-worthy. The emotional stakes are high, and while the ending might not tie everything up perfectly, it leaves you thinking about how the past has a way of clawing back when you least expect it.
Pawprint-worthy quote:
“Sometimes the past doesn’t stay buried—it claws its way back, demanding attention.”
If you’re a fan of domestic suspense and high-octane psychological drama, The Ex deserves a spot on your TBR. Perfect for a weekend read when you’re craving something juicy, chilling, and impossible to put down.

I was not sure what I thought of this book at first! All I can say is keep reading because you will be glad you did! You may think you know what is going on, but you really don't!

THE EX by Alex Sinclair is a well written, suspenseful, psychological thriller with many twists and turns. Although some of them were predictable, many were not, including the ending. I was gripped from the first chapter, and was unable to put the book down. A real page turner!

" I want him back. And I want her gone."
The Ex by Alex Sinclair is a twisted psychological thriller full of tension, unease, and obsession.
Bianca and Jack have been together for close to twenty years. Married with two young children, they seem to have an idyllic life, if only from the outside looking in. But cracks in their already fragile marriage start to show when a new neighbor moves in next door. When they realize that it is one of Jack's ex girlfriends, they are instantly on high alert. Nicole is a huge part of both Jack and Bianca's past and it's safe to say that their relationship did not end well. Why is she here after all these years? Bianca has her suspicions that Nicole is back to try to win Jack back and to wreak havoc on their lives, and soon Bianca is proved right in her assumption.
This book was an absolute wild ride!! It takes a little bit to get into the story, with a dual POV and a timeline that goes back 18 years and then forward to the present day, but I got hooked and couldn't put it down! The way the big reveal was presented was well placed and had me rethinking what I thought I knew. This was my first book by Alex Sinclair and I can confidently say I am a fan!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Alex Sinclair, and Joffe Books for this ARC!! Publication date is May 6th 2025.

Holy flying monkeys! What a ride this was! It was beyond dark and twisty. I had never read anything by Alex Sinclair before so I wasn't sure what to expect. This exceeded anything I could have imagined and blew me away!
Following a college romance, Bianca and Jack are now married with two kids and living in a nice suburban neighborhood. They are living the dream with their best friends as their neighbor until a new neighbor moves in. When they realize it's Jack's crazy psyco ex, they immediately have their guard up. Why now after all these years is she suddenly appearing? It's quite obvious she knew who lived next door and moved there for that reason. Bianca believes she wants Jack back and when crazy things start happening Bianca knows her assumptions were correct.
There were so many ups and downs, lefts and rights it was hard to catch your breath. The characters were all beyond deplorable, which made it all the more fun. The ending was so unexpected I gasped out loud. I thought I knew where it was going. WRONG!! Bravo to Mr Sinclair for that ending! If you're a fan of crazy, this is a must read for you. I highly recommend this book.
Thanks to Netgalley and Joffe Books for the advanced copy

The Ex was a really well written book. An easy read with a good pace. I had guessed a few of the things before they happened, but most of it I had completely wrong. I would have never guessed the ending and appreciated that!

Very clever. I did work out some bits but not at all fully. Hard to predict the ending with the constant twists and turns but everything did add up in the end. Great book.

Wow! While this book started out slow, it definitely took off 3/4 of the way through with the twists! The ending was just crazy! Thanks to NetGalley and Joffe books for the ARC. All opinions are my own. Expected Publication Date: May 6, 2025

If you're a fan of twisty, obsession-fuelled psychological thrillers, The Ex delivers plenty of tension and unease. The setup had me instantly intrigued—a woman moves in next door to a couple who seem to have it all. But behind those perfect closed doors? Secrets are simmering… and someone wants the past back.
Bianca and Jack were college sweethearts, now married with two young children and a seemingly idyllic life. But when a new neighbour moves in next door, everything starts to unravel. This neighbour knows Jack and Bianca. Knew them a long time ago. And she’s not just there to borrow a cup of sugar.
The story alternates between Bianca’s perspective and a second, unnamed narrator. At first, it seems obvious that the second voice belongs to Nicole, the new neighbour—but as past and present begin to collide, that certainty begins to crack. Someone else may be hiding in plain sight, and the reveal is cleverly done.
I didn’t quite connect with Bianca as a character—she’s keeping things from her husband right from the start, and that made it difficult to fully root for her. I also worked out the twist a little early, but that didn’t take away from the well-paced structure and sense of creeping tension throughout.
The Ex is a compelling domestic thriller with strong writing, layered misdirection, and a narrative that will keep you questioning everything. Perfect for readers who love suspense, secrets, and that feeling of not knowing who to trust.

📖4/5⭐️
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for approving me for this book.
This one is captivating from the first page as the reader follows along the dual POVs, told in present and past by two different narrators. The story is propelled forward by short suspenseful chapters that keep you engaged and trying to figure out what is really going on.
Hated our MMC but maybe that’s the point? A cheater hiding secrets from his wife in their house? It’s a no for me dog.
The page turning suspense doesn’t stop until the very end and I’ll be honest I did NOT see that coming. Everything I assumed and expected was so wrong.
This book comes out tomorrow and if you like me think you’re the queen of guessing plot twists I recommend picking this one up, and I bet you too will be shocked by the ending!
