I was lucky to get an advanced copy of Dating After the End of the World by Jeneva Rose. I don’t usually read romcoms, but when Jeneva called it “unhinged,” I had to see for myself and it did not disappoint! It felt like a Hallmark movie with a wild twist. Funny, fast-paced, and surprisingly sweet. I loved it!

Funny, sad, and surprisingly hopeful — Dating After the End of the World is a genre-defying gem that had me laughing one minute and blinking back tears the next. Jeneva Rose has always been one of my favorite authors, but this book proves just how versatile and fearless she truly is as a writer. Stepping outside of her usual genre, she delivers a story that feels fresh, raw, and beautifully human.

The premise is clever: dating in a post-apocalyptic world isn’t exactly swipe-right territory but what really stuck with me was how deeply emotional the story turned out to be. There’s humor and romance, sure, but also grief, healing, and the quiet resilience of people trying to find connection when everything feels lost.

I didn’t know what to expect when I started, but I’m so glad I went along for the ride. Jeneva Rose nailed it. But I knew she would.

I have a lot of thoughts about this book.

But firstly, let me just say, i really enjoyed this. I think this is gonna be the start of a trend in more apocalypse romances (which yes pls i need more)

Jeneva does an excellent job creating the atmosphere of an apocalypse. there is some pretty gross body gore that i wasn’t expecting but was impressed by (brynne weaver would be proud, especially with the eyeball stuff). not only that, she def knows how to get your heart beating!! there were twists, tears, and racing hearts abound.

i loved this book so much i spent about 70% of it thinking it was for SURE gonna be a 5 star read.

it only fell a little flat for me when the two romantic leads got together. she was building such lovely and amazing tension between the 2 of them and i feel like it resolved out of seemingly nowhere. i would have loved to seen it drawn out just a little bit more and have them wait until blake wasn’t in a super sweaty, just barely recovered state. the little smut there was wasn’t the greatest, but i know that’s not Jeneva’s biggest strength so i don’t hold it against her. i also would have loved to see a bit more from some of the side characters, some of them seemed a little flat. that’s why it got knocked it to a 4-star for me, but do not misunderstand, i LOVED this book overall.

also, the ending. Jeneva… why would you do this to me. i will not be forgiving you anytime soon. I am keeping my eyes peeled for a sequel announcement.

Ooof, the ending of this one kind of broke me for a few days. I'm hoping we get another one in this universe though.

Dating After the End of the World was such a refreshing and unexpected read—I absolutely loved it! Jeneva Rose brings together the chaos of a post-apocalyptic world with a surprisingly heartfelt (and often hilarious) romance.

Casey is a strong, independent woman, shaped by years of doomsday prep thanks to her dad. She knows how to survive when the world falls apart, but making it back to her father’s house after everything goes wrong turns out to be a lot harder than expected.

The real twist? When she finally gets there, she finds her childhood arch-nemesis not only alive and well—but best friends with her dad. Things quickly spiral into chaos in the best way possible. The banter, the tension, and the unexpected teamwork between these characters kept me hooked from start to finish.

This isn’t just a survival story—it’s about learning to let others in, even when your instincts tell you to go it alone. It’s funny, action-packed, and surprisingly touching. Definitely a book worth picking up if you like strong female leads, enemies-to-lovers dynamics, and a fresh take on the end of the world.

I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this, but wow—this book took me by surprise in the best possible way.

Jeneva Rose dives into apocalyptic romance with boldness and brilliance, delivering a story that’s as emotionally charged as it is suspenseful. It’s smart, eerie, unexpectedly funny at times, and deeply human. I found myself racing through the pages, totally immersed in this unpredictable, genre-bending journey.

What really stood out to me was how believable everything felt—even in the face of the end of the world. That’s no easy feat. Rose crafts a narrative that’s grounded, raw, and compelling from beginning to end.

She’s proven, once again, that she can masterfully write anything. This isn’t just a great apocalyptic romance—it’s a standout story, period.

I wasn't sure what to expect from a rom-com zombie apocalypse book; however, this one blew away any expectations I had. It's funny and heartwarming. The author does a fantastic job of taking you back in time through the characters' backstories while keeping you engaged in the present-day events. There's heart, humor, and even a bit of thriller mixed in.

As a bonus, it's set in Wisconsin—where I've lived my whole life and where my bookstore is located!

I'm excited to carry this book in my store once it's released!

Thank you Montlake and NetGalley for this ARC!

Jeneva Rose does it again! Dating After the End of the World isn't her typical genre but it was an attention grabber. I don't normally commentate books while reading them, but there were so many times that I yelled out, gasped, or exclaimed "hell yeah!" while reading this one. Dating After the End of the World is a zombie like apocalyptic read, with enemies turning into lovers, back to enemies, and back again. Casey, Dale, Blake, and the crew try to survive the world after a disease runs rampant among people turning them into zombie like creatures with a doomsday prepping twist. Highly satisfied and recommended!

ARC review

"Dating After the End of the World" by Jeneva Rose is a second chance romance with zombies.

Thank you Montlake for the advance review copy (via Netgalley).
Opinions from this review are completely my own.

I am not a fan of zombies or post apocalyptical books, but I am a Jeneva Rose fan.

What you can expect:
- zombielike creatures
- strong women
- postapocalyptic world
- second chance romance
- forced proximity

Casey spent her childhood prepping for the end of the world with her father and she was bullied because of this.
At 18 she left her hometown and became a doctor.
Ten year later, when a mysterious virus transforms people in zombielike creatures she goes back to her father for help.
She did not expect to find her high school bully in the group of survivors living in her dad's compound.

This is an action packed book with a bit of romance and a lot of banter.
I loved the way Casey showed she is good enough to fight, but she was to easy to manipulate sometimes.
Blake was an interesting character, but I have an issue with bullies. Casey forgave him to fast.
The women from the compound were strong and made a good team.

This is also funny, emotional and has some plot twists.
Please be aware that there are some graphic violent scenes.

First, I want to thank Netgalley and Montlake for this ARC!

I have to admit, this book most likely would not have been on my radar without Jeneva Rose writing it. I do enjoy apocalyptic stories, but usually more as a movie.

However, I really really do NOT regret reading this, seeing it was so much fun from the first page to the last. A lot of action and the enemies to lovers trope kept me hooked all the way.. And yes, there was some gore. It is a zombie story, after all. But I understand if that is not for everyone. Still, read the book if you can! I promise you won't regret it!

This was a different type of book than I am used to by this author, but I really enjoyed it. Gives a whole new perspective on the standard end of the world troppe. It gets you in all the feels. Highly recommend.

So the world ends and your fiance leaves you in a dangerous situation, what do you do now?
You go back to your dad's compound that you spent your childhood building and your adulthood hiding from.
Casey spent her childhood helping her dad build a compound for when the world ended. She was bullied endlessly by Blake all through school and nicknamed Doomsday. After she became an adult she cut off most communication and tried to live her life running from her home life. Now after the world really does end and her fiance leaves her during an attack, she makes her way back to her dads.
But guess who's there? Blake. And now he's friends with your dad and sharing a room with her.

Will old feuds continue into adulthood? Or will they finally see what was there all along?

This story hooked me in from the very first page. It was tense in areas, funny, fight scenes, and a strong FMC who can hold her own. Jeneva has done it again and wrote another masterpiece.

I rate this read 5 stars!

Thank you NetGalley, Montlake, and Jeneva Rose for giving me the chance to read and review this book.

This story is extremely unique as well as different for this author typical stories. I thoroughly enjoyed the premise, and the characters. I felt like I was in a world of enemies to lovers, surrounded by the walking dead.

If I could give this book 6 stars I would. I devoured this book, what genre is it? I have no idea and I do not care. Passion projects can go one of two ways, and let me tell you - this one was a full throttle express to a very confident five stars. Shout out to mother goose, and soon to be Grandpa Goose for the idea (or inspo) for this book. Wow Jeneva, you have truly outdone yourself!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
