The Silent House
HM Lynn
🌟🌟🌟🌟
This was my first read by this author but I was instantly drawn in by the front cover image and the tag that seemed to promise a great thriller.
This hooked me right from the start and I loved the setting of the secluded, out of the way new neighbourhood that Imogen and Patrick had moved out to.
On top of this, the behaviour of most of the neighbourhood was a little on the strange side!
The writing style was super easy to become immersed in and I found myself racing ahead to learn what on earth was really going on and also to find out more about Imogen's last, which could have been the cause of her paranoia.
The author did a great job setting this tense and creepy atmosphere and this had me on edge throughout.
This was packed with twists and each time I thought I knew what was going on, something else would happen and set me right back to the start again....I honestly felt like I was going mad myself at one point!
The characters were well drawn and developed but I'm not sure I felt totally trusting of any of them at different times of the book.
What should have been the norm, even the friendly neighbour made me wonder whether they were too good to be true?
This was a great first read and I can't wait to see more from this author in the future.

I went into The Silent House a bit blind, hoping to be caught off guard, and I was. This thriller follows Imogen and Patrick as they search for a new home where they can focus on starting a family, but from the start, something doesn’t feel quite right.
At around 28%, I found myself hoping it would pick up a bit more, and thankfully it did. Imogen’s constant worry is relentless, and reading her thoughts actually gave me anxiety at times, which added a certain depth to the story. That said, the characters as a whole (besides Imogen) lacked development and depth. There wasn’t much growth, and I didn’t feel very connected to them.
The confusion kept me turning the pages because I genuinely wanted to know what was going on, and I didn’t see the twist coming, which I appreciate. Still, the story fell a little flat for me. I think it could have done with a deeper plot or more development overall to really hit the mark. Overall, I did enjoy it and I think it is worth reading if you love an unexpected twist.

I am a bit torn as a write this review for THE SILENT HOUSE by H. M. Lynn. It definitely has positives going in its favor, including short chapters enhancing the suspense, making for a very quick read. Admittedly, it was very difficult for me to put the book down with its fast pace. And along the vein of books with potential unreliable narrators, it absolutely kept me guessing throughout, which is always a good thing.
We are introduced to Imogen, our protagonist, who moves to a countryside retreat with her husband, Patrick. Both have plenty of baggage and are hoping for a fresh start as a newly married couple. Where the book fell a bit short for me was not having enough character development for our mains, and not including more of Imogen’s backstory. Therefore, I never truly connected with her or any of the characters. Imogen, in fact, was quite unlikable and therefore hard to sympathize with in many instances—at least for me.
And regarding the ending, it felt a tad rushed in my opinion. I would have liked more in terms of dialogue, confrontation, and resolution. Would I recommend it though? Yes!! All things considered, it is a fast-paced thriller that definitely kept me engaged and quickly turning the pages. I enjoyed it overall, making it perfect for an entertaining summer read.
I want to thank NetGalley, H. M. Lynn, and Boldwood Books for gifting me the ARC of THE SILENT HOUSE! It was such a privilege to read this before publication. And I appreciate you trusting me with an honest review!

I love myself a good psychological thriller. A lot of them are the perfect length to get you absorbed into the story and have it all wrapped up by the end.
I really enjoyed The Silent House, it hooked me in from the first page. Every chapter finished on some sort of cliffhanger that sucked you right into the next one. The length of the chapters were no more than 10 minutes at my reading speed, which made progressing through this book easy.
The FMC’s name is Imogen, which made me super giddy as an Empyrean fan. There are many hints to the traumatic experiences she had as a child throughout the book, making me question her level of mental stability. In all honesty when it comes to this genre, I don't trust anyone or their mental stability! Everyone is shady and suspicious. I wish after everything Imogen had been through that her fight to survive was expanded on.
I was a huge fan of the thrill. Even experiencing moments of adrenaline and inner anxiety from scenes. The ending was full of lies and deceit. It was definitely a wild and crazy ride!

I loved the main character Imogen. I found this a very easy read and was surprised about the twist at the end.
Imogen and Patrick moving to the countryside for a better life but that didn't go to plan.
Definitely would recommend

This was a very quick, enjoyable read! It had some spooky aspects to it, and kept you guessing until the end with all the twists thrown in.
I did not expect the ending and it definitely threw me off and did not disappoint!
There was a lot of talk about pregnancy, and I did think it was a little too much at times with being repetitive.
Overall, I really liked it and would recommend if you wanted a quick thriller!

This was a fast-paced, easy read set in an isolated area in the countryside. The protagonist felt all over the place with her reactions. They were either over the top in the beginning or not enough towards the end. The supporting characters I wanted a little more depth, but with this leaning more towards a popcorn thriller, it worked. There were red herrings, gaslighting, and tragic pasts, everything that you can ask for in this type of read. While I usually like more of a detailed, in-depth story, this was perfect for a quick read and still remained engaging enough for me to enjoy it and take it for what it was. Three stars.
Thank you, Netgalley and Boldwood Books, for this ARC.

Thank you so much to the publisher for this arc. I really enjoy twisty, suspenseful thrillers, so this was right up my street, and I was on edge through the entire book. I know some people really don’t go in for the relatable narrator trope, but I don’t mind this, and I think it adds a really interesting facet to a story, that keeps you on your toes right to the very end. And I found this a very easy read. So would definitely recommend

As a long-time admirer of H.M. Lynn's "Grecian Women" series, I was excited to see her venture into the thriller genre with but this is the first of such I have read (The other two she published being "The Head Teacher" and "The Student") . This book offers a fast-paced and engaging read. The story centers on Imogen, an artist who, with husband Patrick (stolen from another woman), moves to a new country home and finds herself the target of an unknown assailant. The narrative is rich with twists and red herrings, effectively keeping the reader captivated until the end. While the conclusion provides a satisfying resolution, I found myself wishing for a broader cast of characters and more in-depth development of those introduced. Nevertheless, this book is definitely a great pick if you're looking for a light and enjoyable thriller to unwind with.
Thanks NetGalley and Boldwoods Books for an eARC

The Silent House is a gripping psychological thriller that kept me hooked from the start. It was very suspenseful, tense with lots of twists and turns. A great story with a well thought out plot, great characters...I really enjoyed this book.
Synopsis: In the middle of nowhere, you can lose more than your way…Moving to the countryside with Patrick was supposed to be my fresh start. But from the moment we arrived, something felt… off. The locals are strange, and I feel like I’m being watched. The constantly moving shadows outside our window can’t just be from the trees, can they?
Many thanks to #TheSilentHouse #NetGalley #Boldwoodbooks for providing me an E-ARC of this book.

The Silent House by H.M. Lynn is a tense, unsettling read that pulls you into a world of isolation, paranoia, and buried secrets. The pacing is sharp—with short, gripping chapters that build suspense quickly. While a few twists felt familiar, the eerie atmosphere and psychological depth made it hard to put down. A great pick if you enjoy thrillers that mess with your mind just enough to keep you guessing

This wasn't a favorite for me. The plot was predictable for me. I did like the short chapters that kept the pace of the book up but just wasn't a book I would suggest to my friends.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC.

This book just was not it. I’m not into the whole unreliable narrator thing, and I really disliked Patrick. Not that Imogen was any better.. who lets their husband be with their exwife the way she agrees too when he left her because he was cheating on her with you!? It’s was a quick read partially because I felt like I was skimming through just to get the to end. There was no real story. We kept hearing about this terrible past and it played out in two pages. Also, the entire revenge scheme just was dumb. It just didn’t have enough of a real developed storyline for me or 1 likable character.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and H.M. Lynn for the copy of The Silent House.
I have never read anything by H.M. Lynn. I am so glad Boldwood Books for offering the chance to read this one. It was written so well and I thought I had it figured out multiple times. I would definitely recommend this one and read others by this author!

I really thought I’d enjoy this book more than I did as it sounded so creepy and mysterious.
And to start with it was, from the odd neighbour to the gaslighting and lies that followed but I couldn’t quite warm to the main characters Imogen, I wasn’t keen on her husband either despite them both being well written descriptive persona’s.
The story unfolded at an even pace, tying up loose ends in the somewhat predictable end.
An easy if not thoroughly enjoyable read.

Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review. The Silent House is a tense and very suspenseful psychological thriller. I was instantly drawn into the story and couldn’t wait to read what would happen next. I gave it 4 stars because I felt as though I didn’t get the chance to really know any of the main characters as well as I wanted but saying that I still thoroughly enjoyed the book. The ending was so full of twists which I always love and they weren’t predictable twists either. Overall a really enjoyable read.

This is one of those books which will stay with me, what a story! The author has written a really great thriller/mystery, she introduces a few characters but not so many that you can't keep track! I'll admit that I had my own ideas regarding who was guilty but..........I was wrong! Was a totally unexpected end! Wonderful storyline very well written.
Many thanx to NetGalley, the author and publishers for allowing me to read and review this book.

I don’t know how to rate this books. Why?
Because I had empathy for everyone except for Imogen. She’s horrible! She’s arrogant, entitled, and totally remorseless. She has an excuse for everything whether it’s saving her now husband from his “terrible” marriage so the affair was warranted, to the thing that got her in this mess in the first place.
The tale is twisty and conspiratorial. Imogen is on an island on her own, her own house is working against her, she has an attacker hiding deep in the shadows, everyone is a suspect, and it never occurred to her that she probably caused all this mess. Part of me felt she deserved it. The ending was expected and irritating.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of The Silent House by H. M. Lynn. This book was quite enjoyable with several twists along the way. I thought I had it figured out but I was wrong! It has a creepy vibe happening and kind of spooky at times. It was a quick read and very entertaining. A solid read that earned a 4 star review from me. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
