Claustrophobic, creepy thriller based on two main characters, Patrick and Imogen, who have almost 20 years' age difference, Patrick left his wife to marry Imogen and they decided to leave London to go to a secluded village where strange things start happening and Imogen thinks she's losing her mind. I had some difficulty to get into this book but in the end I enjoyed the writing and the ending which changed everything in my opinion.

A thoroughly good read which kept me on my toes and I particularly liked the short chapters.

The storyline was good, what a mixed up lot they were but it made for good reading and overall I did enjoy reading this book.

Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC which I can thoroughly recommend.

Imogen and Patrick just moved from London to the middle of nowhere, where the nearest town is four miles away. She’s a painter and he’s a lawyer, and they want to start a family together. Patrick has an adult daughter from his first marriage, Prim, who hates Imogen because she and Patrick were having an affair when he was still married to Prim’s mom, Arabella. Getting out of the city and escaping that mess of a situation seemed like the perfect idea…until they moved in.

Immediately, creepy things start happening. There are dead animals everywhere (not just the ones that were taxidermied by the previous owner), Imogen was almost hit by a car and she feels like someone is watching her. The people who live in this tiny area of cottages all seem very strange; when Imogen goes to town, weird things seem to always happen. There is a group of kids who are constantly causing trouble with vandalism and arson. The only person who seems halfway normal is her new neighbor, Maureen. Despite her being a quirky old woman, she’s the only person Imogen has, as her husband is often in London for work. The two women become friends as things go from strange to dangerous…

This was a really enjoyable read, and I was very happy with the ending. It started going down a path that I see in a lot of thrillers, and that path sometimes comes off as an easy to way to explain things and conclude a story. I was like here we go again…then everything flipped and I realized I had it all wrong! The end of the book is quite a shocker, with no clichés or tired formulas. I was going to give this four stars, rounded up from 3.5, but now it’s getting four stars, rounded down from 4.5. That ending made all the difference.

(Thank you to Boldwood Books, H.M. Lynn and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on June 12, 2025.)

"The Silent House" by H.M. Lynn was a page turning story. This book had many twists and turns that kept you guessing until the very end.
Imogen and Patrick are starting over in a new house in the country. When they arrive they meet the new neighbor and things seem to be a bit off. As they spend more and more time in the house Imogen starts to notice strange things and things start to happen to her. As Patrick tries to help her he also gets pulled back into his old life. As Imogen starts to figure out what is happening she is surprised by who might actually be behind it.
Highly recommend this book.

Many thanks to netgalley, the author and Boldwood books for approving my request to read this book.

The Silent House is a solid psychological thriller with an added eerie feel throughout which I always enjoy.

In this book we meet Imogen and her husband Patrick who have decided on a fresh start in the country. As they begin to settle a series of events unfold that threatens the very fresh start they craved.

Though I guessed a twist or two there was still a couple to surprise me thrown in.

Overall I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others.

Imogen and Patrick move to a remote house in a small village.
Immediately, strange things start to happen, and Imogen is feeling very unsettled. On top of that, she is newly pregnant. Could the occurrences be her imagination?

Creepy thriller where the main character presents as mentally ill, or over imaginative.
I really felt that he husband could have been more supportive...
Fast paced, and I didn't predict the ending, but was suspicious of the perpetrators.
A quick read, which I enjoyed.

This story has all the right ingredients. It is tense and builds that tension, self doubt and questions about the past playing out in excruciating detail. Imogen is an artist, one who uses the darkness of her childhood to paint dark and deeply emotional paintings. It is her therapy also and her method of coping with her distressing childhood and the resulting psychotic break she experienced. Imogen moves on and meets Patrick, a lawyer, looking for artwork at her exhibition. With an ex wife and daughter in the picture, Imogen and Patrick move to an idyllic country cottage to start a family and experience the perfect married life. It should have been a fairy tale for them, but things turn dark and sinister and has both Imogen and Patrick questioning her sanity. Unfortunately, I felt at this point the writer just decided to get from A to B, start to finish, by any method possible and the resulting scenario is fantastical and actually has no real relevance to the actual situation. Pulled out of a hat. It does not make sense in a lot of ways and leaves so many unanswered questions about the how and the why. It is the equivalent of throwing in "it was all a bad dream". It was a case of where did that come from? I had wondered about the absence of real clues, the reward for the readers commitment and loyalty till the end, when it all comes together. It definitely didn't and was ultimately disappointing.

This was such a Creepy, tense, and almost claustrophobic mystery thriller. What an amazing book which I cant wait to recommend. The characters are well developed, and the story pulls you in as you try to unravel the mystery. With so many twists and turns, I was guessing the culprit to the very end which I love in a thriller. It was a fast, engaging read that held my attention from start to finish. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

The Silent House is a slow-burning psychological thriller that expertly blurs the line between paranoia and reality. When the narrator and her partner Patrick move to a remote countryside home, what should be a peaceful new chapter quickly turns into something far more sinister. From the eerie locals to the unexplained shadows and unsettling break-in, the tension builds steadily, creating an atmosphere that’s equal parts claustrophobic and compelling.

The strength of the novel lies in its suspenseful tone and the growing sense of dread that follows the protagonist through every page. Readers will find themselves questioning her sanity right along with her, as the author masterfully plays with perception and doubt. While the pacing occasionally drags in the middle, the payoff is worth it, with a final act that delivers on the creeping sense of unease built throughout.

For fans of domestic thrillers and psychological suspense, The Silent House offers a chilling exploration of trust, isolation, and the dangers that lurk closest to home.

This book was not for me. I loved the premise, and I liked the supporting characters, but I hated the main character.. I'm not sure if she was written that way on purpose by the author, or if it was just that the author chose to make her unlikeable. I also didn't love that she was unreliable, and I felt like I didn't get all the answers I wanted.

This was SO good. Started at 7.30 this morning and just finished now. Not even sure I’ve had a toilet break 😂 I simply couldn’t put it down. Fast paced, cliffhanger chapters and the writing style literally made me feel like I was going crazy. Definitely gonna read more from this author.
