An interesting start to hopefully a new series. The action is good and the characters are engaging. The story has a decent plot and will hold your interest. Overall, a good sci-fi novel.

Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was in the mood for some good old-fashioned sci-fi. The kind my dad read in the 80s & 90s. The ones I devoured as a teen. The series with battleships and politics and consequences that I couldn't wait to read the next volume. The kind of action-packed thrills and driven storylines found in video games like Mass Effect.

Recently, I found These Blighted Stars, which really fit that niche for me. When I saw this book pop up, it looked like it would scratch the same itch.

In some ways, it does. It's got that grimy grit and action. The ships and soldiers. But it's somehow missing the soul. The heart that makes me care about the worlds and the characters.

Did I like it enough to read a sequel? Probably. I like giving new authors second chances.

Very much for military sci-fi fans. Great action. Would pass on the my siblings for a read to pass time between a series

It's good book. I tried to finish it. Okay, kind of scared of not being able to finish it so i'm going to give some feedback such as when in danger, i don't think the character have time to yap a lot. So the dialogue should be shorter or they gonna shout or just internal monologue during the battle. About 24 hours system i wonder if you could use another hours system since earth and other planets should be different.

I enjoyed Mark Jordan's novel. Jackson Mason is a hero to his men and tries to serve to the best of his ability. The novel takes one through his personal tribulations being in the military. I look forward to the sequel.
