This book is in my top 5 reads this year so far!
I absolutely LOVE a domestic thriller and this ticked every single box for me. I loved the storyline, the twists and the pace.
Olivia is stuck in an abusive relationship she can see no way out of, until one day a stranger comes to rescue her. Lachlan is wealthy, handsome and offers you the world. Cautiously Olivia takes the leap and before long they’re moving in together. Only a few weeks later Lachlan has some strange requests, and then Olivia discovers lachlan has a previous wife. But what happened to her and why does she have a gut feeling something is off. Will she figure out what’s going on before it’s too late?
This is my first book by Matt mcgregor but it certainly won’t be my last.
Thank you so much netgalley for approving the arc for me. It’s truly appreciated 🩷

This is a great psychological thriller. It kept me reading and guessing until the last page. I highly recommend it.
I was given an ARC to give an honest review. These are my words and opinion

A new author for me and one I will look out for in future. This is a great domestic thriller full of twists and atmosphere. Brilliant character description and I loved the book cover illustration
Thanks to Netgalley for the chance to read this ARC

The story is well written with plenty of plot twists and turns to keep you from guessing the ending. The descriptions of the characters and locations are well written. Would recommend
Thank you to Matt McGregor, NetGalley and Inkubator Books for the arc of this book.

First, I wish to thank Netgalley, Publisher Inkubator Books and Author Matt McGregor for the advanced e-copy of The Last Wife.
The Last Wife is a fast-pacing thriller that throws you into the universe within the first chapters. The world and character building progressed with the pace of the story and this was the perfect palate cleanser.
I actually read from chapter 8 and finished the book in one sitting, not really noticing the time spent as I followed the story and the progress. I will be following Matt McGregor as he continues to write and publish.

I just finished The Other Wife and it was a solid 4-star read for me. I’ve really been getting into thriller books lately, and this one definitely hit the spot. Once I started, I couldn’t stop, I just kept wanting to find out how everything would unfold.
The story had a great mix of twists and mystery without feeling over the top. Every time I thought I had it figured out, something new would happen to throw me off, which I loved. It kept me guessing right up until the end.
The relationship between the two main characters (Lachlan & Olivia) was a little weird for me, like all I seen was red flags, but it was entertaining nonetheless.

The perfect husband. The perfect house. The perfect lie."
The Last Wife by Matt McGregor is a domestic thriller packed full of suspense, secrets, twists and deception.
Olivia is a struggling artist working as a waitress while she pursues her dream of becoming a well known painter. One day, after meeting Lachlan, her dreams just might have come true. Lachlan is wealthy and handsome and has completely swept Olivia off of her feet. Months later they get engaged and Olivia is living her best life with all she could want and more. But soon Olivia learns more about Lachlan's ex wife who passed away. The ex wife that Olivia is convinced that Lachlan will never get over. With Lachlan's strict rules for the house and the rumors about his late wife ringing in her head, Olivia begins to question whether she really knows Lachlan at all.
The "perfect marriage " trope is one of my faves and The Last Wife did not disappoint!! With a slow infusion of unease and dread, you can't help but to keep reading! I loved the atmospheric setting layered with a a sense of rot when it comes to life in Rosford. Olivia as our protagonist works very well. Going from nothing to ending up with everything but still darkness seeps into the cracks of her marriage, you root for Olivia and find her relatable. Definitely a must read for fans of tension filled thrillers and readers of Nicola Sanders, Lisa Jewell and B.A Paris!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Matt McGregor, and Inkubator Books for this ARC!! Publication date is May 25th 2025.

🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is my second read by this author and I have to say that although I did enjoy The Makeover, I much preferred this read.
This sets off at pace right from the prologue and I was hooked instantly!
I love the perfect marriage trope and you just know that such perfection is never going to go well.
Although I've read a fair few similar themed books, this one did seem unique in some ways and this had me racing through the pages to find out what was going to come next!
I felt sorry for poor Olivia - seemingly having everything she ever wanted - but I also feel like she maybe should have seem something in Lachlan before getting too sucked in!
He was definitely waving some flags for us the reader!
This writing style was easy to read and I liked how the atmosphere was set and put me on edge throughout.
I really didn't trust Lachlan - but at the same time we can also see where his motivation started.
A great read and I will definitely be keen to read more from this author in the future.

The Last Wife
I mainly requested this ARC because I loved the cover, but I’m happy to say that the story matched the quality.
Olivia marries Lachlan and can’t believe her luck. Perfect husband, perfect life. Or is it?
We follow their relationship as it gets more and more toxic and abusive.
If you like domestic noir this is for you. It’s perfectly paced and twisty. I loved it.

Aww I just loved it. It was a really easy read that just pulled you in and kept you on the edge of your seat with all the twists throughout. The writing style flows so naturally that before you even know it, you're already halfway through the book. Totally gets under your skin and eaves you wanting more. It has everything you'd want froma domestic noir, the suspense, tension, lies, secrets, and twists. A must read

Firstly, Thankyou to NetGalley and the Author Matt McGregor for the ARC of this!
But let’s just say I was hooked throughout the whole entire thing, even my friend (who has not read a book EVER), read a few pages halfway through and was super invested and kept asking what’s happening to Olivia?
This was such an easy read, and the writing was brilliant. This won’t be my last Matt McGregor book for sure!

The Last Wife by Matt McGregor was a great read. I don’t usually gravitate towards domestic thrillers, but this one I enjoyed. The pacing is quick and engaging, with a steady build of tension that had me flying through the pages. From the beginning, I had a strong suspicion and dislike of Lachlan. He’s the kind of character that immediately raises red flags. The mystery surrounding his late wife added an extra layer of suspicion, and as small accidents and strange “rules” started piling up, the sense of dread was undeniable. While the insta-love trope usually isn’t my favorite, I found it more believable in Olivia’s case. Given what she had already been through, it made sense that she’d be drawn to someone who appeared safe and stable. Lachlan offered her a way out and the promise of a fresh start. What stood out to me most was how the story subtly explored the cycle of abuse and how easily someone can go from one unhealthy relationship to another. That added emotional weight and depth for me. Overall, this was a quick, suspenseful read with strong psychological elements and just the right amount of emotional depth. A solid 4-star thriller I’ll be recommending to readers who love twisty, unsettling domestic thrillers. Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for the eARC. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

This book was crazy!
Brilliant storyline. A very strong main character. Loved the twists. This was my first book by this author and will definitely not be the last. Thanks Netgalley for letting me read this book for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was perfect for a recent flight that I took! I was intrigued from the beginning with the prologue setting up a life or death scenario, but for who?
Olivia is a waitress in New York with dreams of being an artist. Her dreams seem to come true when she meets Lachlan, a rich man who sweeps her off of her feet and proposes in a matter of months. But the fairy tale has a dark side as Olivia learns more about the last woman in Lachlan's life, his deceased former wife who he doesn't seem to have completely let go of. While some of the plot was a bit predictable, the modern day Rebecca vibes of this story had twists and turns of it's own that kept me coming back to find out what happened!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the book!

A woman meets the perfect man and is whisked off to a dream lifestyle. However, she quickly realizes things don't seem to add up and her loving husband has secrets that she is beginning to discover.
I enjoyed the unexpected twists in this novel as well as the dark suspense. 4 stars for keeping me engaged and not wanting to put this book down.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review

We follow a woman who appears to have the perfect life in this murder mystery, but there may be something dark lurking beneath the surface. If you are a fan of Freida McFadden's books, you will enjoy the suspense and twists in this story. It was a fast and easy read.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a gripping thriller that keeps readers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. a great plot packed with unexpected twists and turns, the writing is both engaging and suspenseful, with well-developed characters that add depth to the narrative.
The pacing of the novel is perfect, with just the right amount of tension to keep readers hooked without feeling overwhelmed.
Really enjoyable

This is the first book I have read by this author and it did not disappoint. Fast-paced and character driven, I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to reading more by this author.

Love Love Love! This was a top read for me! it was full of secrets and twist and lies. What is the truth? What is a lie? and who do I belive?

This book reminded me a lot of the ending of the housemaid and the things the husband made his wife do in the book, but it followed a different story line which made it exciting and thrilling all in its own. I felt such a strong sense of hatred towards the MMC and was fighting along with the FMC the whole time. I couldn’t put the book down from when I picked it up after work today because I needed to know how it ended!! A good thriller to me is one you cannot sleep without finishing. There were of course the unexpected twists a couple I predicted a couple I did not and I love the unexpectedness of it all, I would 100% recommend this short thriller to any thriller lovers and am excited to read more of his work.
