Thank you for providing this ARC!

I was intrigued by the plot summary and wanted to see how the author handled a romance between a master and an indentured servant. Unfortunately, I don’t feel that it was handled very well. Jonah was constantly praised for being “not like other masters” because he did things like give his servants an education and days off. But it still felt like they were treated as “lesser” and as property. He also never seemed to truly recognize his privilege or had much growth. Sometimes it felt like he weighed his struggles to be as heavy as Ana’s, which is just impossible with her status in society.

I really loved Ana though. She was very likable and strong and sensitive. Her relationship with Gabriel was wonderful, it was so sweet and pure.
