I really enjoyed reading this book as it’s characters were very believable and the story unfolded at a good pace. Elizabeth is a respected professor at a New York university and seemingly has her life sorted. She has relations with men on her terms but no relationships and lives a good life until she agrees to teach creative writing, long distance. She receives via email the first chapters of her students’ stories and immediately realises one of her distance learning students is writing about something that happened in her past. I’m not going to give away the details but suffice to say the story gets quite dark but always remains empathetic to Elizabeth’s dilemma/trauma. I tried to second guess parts of the story but apart from one time, I was surprised by the reality. Great story with good, clear writing.

When a past murder resurfaces through a student's creative writing assignment, it becomes a gripping tale of intrigue and obsession. Someone Knows is a thrilling read that is both sexy and unsettling, making it impossible to put down. I found myself racing through the pages, constantly surprised by the twists and turns. Vi Keeland masterfully builds psychological tension throughout the story. However, I have a hard time with narrators who are overly unreliable, and Elizabeth had me questioning everything she said. While this uncertainty adds to the excitement, it also created a sense of detachment for me at times. Elizabeth's traumatic past, shaped by an inappropriate relationship with an older teacher, looms large over her life. The ending, though, is where I struggled the most. I prefer a resolution rather than an ambiguous conclusion that leaves me pondering and glancing suspiciously at my bookshelf. Still, if you enjoy intricate thrillers with dark academia vibes, a creeping sense of dread, and buried secrets, this book is definitely for you. Just be prepared for some jaw-dropping moments that might make you want to toss your Kindle in disbelief.

Elizabeth, a college English professor, is reading her students story submissions when she comes across one about a student having an affair with her teacher. She is shocked as she knows this story and she knows exactly how it ends. With the teacher being murdered by her. With someone seemingly knowing her secrets, will she be able to track down the mysterious student?

I liked the premise of this one as it sounded like it would have plenty of mystery involved and I also liked the cover. This ended up being an entertaining read full of paranoia, suspense and fun reveals. The story twists and turns until the final chapters, making you want to carry on reading, although I wasn’t sure about the ending. There are also some disturbing moments and some serious dark subjects explored. This ended up being an interesting, twisted thriller overall and I would pick up more by this author. 3.5 stars rounded up. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.

I had read romance books from this author but not any of her thrillers yet. I requested this book as it seemed like an interesting premise. While teaching an online creative writing class, Elizabeth marks chapter submissions from her students. What she doesn't expect is for the story to sound familiar to what her best friend went through when they were in high school 20 years ago.

The way the past is told through the chapter submitted of this novel was a fantastic and unique way to share Elizabeth's memories. I felt immersed in the memories.

Can Elizabeth find out who is sending her the chapters? Who knows the secrets from the past?

It's rare that a thriller can involve such emotions in me. I'm used to feeling shock, surprise, fear but I don't usually feel such raw emotion as I did reading this. I felt a little bit lost when I finished this book, I think I'm going to be thinking about for a while.

Make sure you check content warnings as this book has some sensitive topics including grooming and assault of a minor.

If you liked Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier then this is for you.

Thank you to Piatkus, and Little, Brown Book Group for this advanced copy.

I'm slowly becoming obsessed with Vi Keelands thrillers this was so well written I was gripped from the first page and couldn't put it down. This was fast paced and full of shocking moments. I liked how we watch Elizabeth slowly spiral into anxiousness and paranoia and by the end only we as the reader know who's really behind everything. This does have a dark theme and involves SA, miscarriage and murder so beware of that before starting. But overall this is an engaging binge worthy read and I read it in one sitting. I highly recommend.

this story is gripping. the plot is such a gritty premise and i was eager to see just where it could go.
the story follows Elizabeth a English professor who has spent years protecting herself from her past and anyone hurting her in the present. she looks forward to work every day. that is until one of her student submit a story that gives her chills. its a story she knows. its a story she was part of. its a story she has spent years running from. because this story is telling her of the murder she committed to protect her friend against an abusive teacher. Elizabeth sees her past is now back again and she must return to her hometown to find out and confront just what is going on. but there is more than murder she has to face at home. and there is more that ends up complicating matters when she gets there, lets not mention the man who is the son of the man she killed(red flag dearest run!)
this book is paced perfectly and draws you into until the very last page. and believe me you will want to sit there until you reach that very last delicious part.

Elizabeth is an English teacher running a summer writing course. One of her students sends her the beginning of a story that is more than familiar to her - in it, a student called Jocelyn is abused by the teacher and later killed by Elizabeth. Increasingly paranoid and desperate to find out who is after her, Elizabeth travels back to her childhood home in Louisiana, reconnects with people from her past, visits her mother. But the unknown author lurks in the background and Elizabeth’s past comes back to haunt her. The book is a clever and gripping thriller in which the author deals with the themes of neglect, abuse and psychological trauma as well as justice and victimhood. The story is told from Elizabeth’s point of view and includes chapters sent by her “student” which tell the story of Jocelyn. The author manages to deliver a couple of satisfying twists and surprises as the book progresses, becoming more a psychological novel than a thriller.

If you like your murder mystery’s with a lot of spice then Someone Knows will be right up your alley. I hade no idea that this author was a romance writer but I learnt that pretty quickly with her writing. That is not my usual kind of read but I handled it 😅

Elizabeth really was a mess of a character. She is so broken from what happened in her teenage years, and is she has trouble forming and keeping relationships, trusting men and sleeping. She does however, enjoy sleeping with multiple men without strings. She is an English professor in New York, and her latest assignment for her students has her scared. Somebody knows the intimate details of her life, in particular, the time when she killed her English teacher in high school. This sends her completely off the rails and she heads home for the first time in years to face her demons and work out who is doing this to her.

There were a few twists that I didn’t see coming that was for sure.. I changed my mind so many times on who I thought was responsible. It was very satisfying ending.

Thanks so much to Little Brown Book Group UK for my advanced copy of this book to read. Comes out on June 17th.
