I absolutely adore the artistic style in this book, which is filled with information about wildlife in the forest. The book takes a month-by-month approach, showing the reader what to look for. It would make a great companion to nature journaling and a wonderful gift for any nature enthusiast!

This is stunning.
Thank you NetGalley for the e-copy of this.
Absolutely gorgeous artwork with interesting information about the different creatures. I want a physical copy of this asap to just study the art in print!

Jada Fitch's intricate and detailed paintings create snapshots of life in the forest of the northeastern US during each month of the year. Each painting is labeled for readers to be able to identify all of the life forms (birds, mammals, reptiles, plants, slime molds, etc.) in the image. Each month has a short (2 paragraph) summary, followed by the painting and several other close ups with additional information about the species depicted.
A challenge for this book may be that the intended audience is unclear. The paintings are beautiful and many kids will enjoy the seek and find aspect of matching the numbers in the pictures to the names of the species in the key. However, the text is challenging (an early description of a fungus species includes the term "anthraquinone pigments," as just one example of the text's level) and not written with accessibility in mind. There isn't a glossary or consistent use of context clues to help readers tackle more challenging passages.
Overall, this is a nice to have book for collections where browseable nonfiction is popular, especially in the northeastern US. However, I wouldn't recommend it as an essential purchase for school libraries.

Informative meets forest whimsy in this beautifully illustrated book about life, critters, and foliage that lies in the forest. Complete with tips and tricks to help you observe and appreciate nature on your own. This is a great book!

Thanks to NetGalley for this eARC!
As I'm sure most reviews of this book will start - the illustrations are absolutely beautiful! The descriptions are both poetic and fascinating. There were so many small tidbits about the different animals and plants that I didn't know. The author also has a nice section at the end of the book with advice and ideas on how to more mindfully enjoy nature and keep a nature journal. I highly recommend this book (even for adults, honestly) and will definitely be purchasing for the nieces and nephews!

The art in the book is to die for! There is so much detail put into the depiction of all the different flora and fauna. I enjoy reading books that cover the cycles or nature throughout the seasons. The text is easy to understand for all ages. Children and adult readers would enjoy this book. I also loved learning about Jada's methods for creating her art and seeing her studio.

This is a lot more informative that I expected and hence a pleasant surprise. The illustration is absolutely gorgeous. It is a great book for KS3 students who are interested in the forest.

The Forest Revealed exceeded my expectations. The illustrations are magnificent. The book is highly informative. I think that my early readers in first grade would enjoy looking at the pictures, but the text in this book could captivate children up through fifth grade.
Thank you to Storey Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.

The illustrations and descriptions are well done. The drawings are so detailed, and I loved how the book went through an entire year. I would love to see this become a series of different forests and other ecosystems throughout the year. I received an eARC from Storey Publishing through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.

This is a gorgeous book about the animals and plants found in the forest. The illustrations are incredibly detailed. I would love to have this as a coffee table book.

Organised around the twelve months, The Forest Revealed allows us to explore northern forests with their inhabitants, rituals, and magic.
This book was on our reading list and we feel privileged to have an ARC.
Can’t wait to see what Fitch and Kosek come up with next.
I liked the dance between science and poetry, nature and human in this one.

The Forest Revealed immediately takes you on a spectacular journey through the forests of North America. The illustrators have outdone themselves with stunning and realistic artwork. The book walks through the year, and highlights the different organisms that thrive during the different months - from animals to insects, and fauna to shrooms. Even the minute creatures are distinguishable within the lush landscapes.
Jada did a fantastic job highlighting everything that lives in the area that she focused on. However, the text was very small (at least on the Ipad) and I had to zoom in in order to read it. The information provided was well thought out and thorough, but I think the language used was a bit old for ‘Children's’ non-fiction. This would be well marketed at middle grade level, perhaps 12-15.
This is a book that I would recommend to anyone interested in nature, and those learning about the natural habitat. I would love to see more books like this from other countries!
The Forest Revealed is the perfect book for those interested in nature, even to be taken into the forest to identify plants and animals. The lush illustrations, and informative text is bound to fascinate any reader. Thank you to Netgalley and Storey Publishing for the Advanced Reader’s Copy (ARC) of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book is as beautiful as it is fascinating. When you read each month you get the opportunity to learn about animals, flora and so much more. Each illustration is labeled for identification and then there are paragraphs detailing more about what you see.
I loved how at the end of the book there is a portion that aims at getting you outside and observing for yourself. We are surrounded by life if we just take the moment to look.
I feel like this would be a good book for the classroom or even the bookshelf at home. I personally could see myself reading a "monthly" chapter with my kids.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

A beautiful look at the life in a forest over the course of a year. It is divided into the twelve months, each of them with beautiful illustrations of the flora and fauna to be found there. There are larger illustrations with plenty of things to hunt out and then individual pictures and information on all of them. It’s a great way to get an overlook at all that is going on in the nature around us, how interconnected everything is and how different familiar landscapes are at different times. A lovely book for any nature loving child.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in return for an honest review.

I found this book to be super informative and the illustrations are breathtaking. As someone who lives in a national forest it was a delight to see the author’s attention to detail for each month of the year. So much helpful information about species presented with captivating illustrations.
This could also make a delightful coffee table book, I am considering purchasing the physical copy because it was a great experience taking in each month and looking for all the details on the page.
This is a great addition to any library’s section on ecosystems, might not be an AR book title but delivers information all the same.

This book is visual poetry! This one of the most beautifully illustrated nonfiction book I’ve seen. I can’t get over the artwork.
First, the execution and design of the concept of the book is perfect. It’s essentially the illustrator’s observation of nature on a monthly basis in the format of gorgeous artwork. It’s her nature journal come to life paired with informative texts about each species of animal or plant. The vibrant visuals complement the narrative wonderfully, creating an immersive experience that feels like you are drawn into the heart of the forest.
What I particularly love about this book is how it highlights the interconnectedness of forest life. It showcases everything from the smallest insects to towering trees and each month offers insights into the diverse flora and fauna.
This is such a unique book. Completely in awe.

The Forest Revealed completely stole my heart! From the moment I opened it, I felt like I’d stepped into a peaceful, enchanted world straight out of a cottagecore dream. Every page felt like a slow walk through the woods—quiet, magical, and full of wonder.
The illustrations are absolutely stunning. I honestly gasped at a few of them! They’re rich with detail, but soft and warm in a way that made me feel instantly calm and connected to nature. Mushrooms, moss, hidden animals, delicate leaves—there’s so much to see and admire. I found myself lingering over each spread just to soak it all in. I'm only left wishing there was a peel-and-stick wallpaper of the artwork for me to purchase!
The writing pairs beautifully with the art—gentle, informative, and poetic. It made me appreciate the forest in a whole new way, from the smallest insects to the tallest trees. I especially loved how it celebrates the quiet complexity of woodland ecosystems without ever feeling heavy or overly scientific.
This book is perfect for anyone who loves nature, art, or just wants a peaceful escape. It feels like a warm mug of tea (or hot chocolate, if you're like me) and a soft blanket—comforting, grounding, and beautifully crafted. An absolute treasure. Thank you, NetGalley!

A beautifully illustrated book of what types of nature you can find in the forest each month. The lists are broken down into mammals, plants etc. Beautiful and atmospheric.

This is an absolutely gorgeous book for anyone who loves nature! The book is organized around the 12 months, each month with an incredibly detailed painting containing at least 50 different plant, animal, insect, and fungal species, all labeled with common name for easy identification (scientific names are listed in the back of the book). There are a few pages for each month in addition to the painting highlighting specific species with nature facts and a detail from the painting, so you can see those species up close and learn more about them.
I live in central Iowa, so I was curious how well the paintings would match my experience in our oak savanna forests on our farm. This book is set in the northeast United States, so there are some species we don't see here in Iowa, but for the most part they match up very nicely with the species I see in my own forest. That made me very happy to see!
The book ends with some recommendations for activities to make your own nature observations as well as show some of the artist's process in making the paintings. I think this would be a wonderful book for any age! The art is engaging for anyone, and the nature facts would be an appropriate level for elementary school through adulthood. I found them fascinating!
I received an e-book advance read copy from Storey publishing/Netgalley, and it's lovely in that format, but I can't wait to add a physical copy to my shelf when it comes out this fall. I highly recommend adding it to your shelf as well!

This was approved for us today on NetGalley and the kids and I spent AGES looking at it. The illustrations are STUNNING and I loved how the opposite page of the illustrations lists exactly what is on the image (so it's easy to see if what you saw was x warbler or a certain flower) and the kids absolutely loved trying to identify some of the plants and animals we see in the woods behind the house.
That being said, I'm a little disappointed that the months didn't exactly match up to our seasons. I'm wondering where the author lives (I feel like this would be more relevant to keep at my parents house in WI). If you're in a northern clime this will likely match up nicely and you can learn month by month but for us in VA, it was best read in one go.
O really enjoyed this as a seek and find as well.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
