Desolate Shores

Aspen Adams has started her life over and is working as a P.I. for Aunt in Tahoe, she needed to make a change and so far things are looking up. While enjoying her morning job she comes across a body, the sad part is it turns out to be her best friend. Who would want to murder such a bright and sunny young woman and why? Aspen couldn't think of any enemies that her friend might have had and she is truly puzzled as to why someone would have hurt her much less kill her. Aspen doesn't have any faith in the police, they botched her own parents investigation, so why trust them when it comes to her friend. She decides that she is going to put her job to good use and figure out who killed her friend on her own. Aspen soon learns that her friend held many secrets and maybe she wasn't at all the person that she knew and loved. As more and more comes to light Aspen knows that she will have to put the pieces together to figure out who the killer is. Meanwhile her good for nothing sister has dropped off her niece, leaving Aspen alone with a young girl that she doesn't really know. Aspen soon starts seeing little things going on with her niece that makes her worry that she is hiding a secret herself. She wants so badly to bring justice to her friend but with this new obstacle in her way she doesn't know if she will be able to. She loves her niece and wants to do what's best for her but isn't quite sure what that is. Follow Aspen as she questions all the people in her friends life hoping that with all the information she is given she will be able to find a killer. Can she deal with the problems her niece is starting to present? Can she trust the cops and what they are telling her? This was a great read that had me looking at everyone as a suspect, it truly had me guessing all the way until the end!!!

Fan Mail

In this next book of the series Aspen and her niece are getting into a routine and all seems to be back to normal for the pair. Aspen is back to working cases at her Aunt's P.I. firm and she is happy to be dating Nick. When local news anchor Gloria Morning starts receiving some weird fan mail that seems to coincide with recent murders she asks Aspen to look into things for her. Aspen is on the job when another murder occurs and another note is sent. Aspen has little to go on and an abundance of people to look into. who could be killing all these people and what connection do they have with Gloria. Aspen realizes that she is going to have to delve deeper into the people on her suspect list to find the answers she seeks. Not one person seems to be the front runner when it comes to suspects which is making it harder for Aspen. She really wants to help her friend and doesn't like that she has been unable to come up with any real clues or suspects. Follow along as Aspen never stops in her quest to find a killer, will she do so before someone else ends up dead or find herself in danger along the way. I loved this book and was excited to read it, the characters are well developed and I already feel as if I truly know them. I hope there will be another book!!!

Cold Conviction

In this third book of the series Aspen is thrust back into the hardest time of her life. Her sister has called and brought up questions about when their parents were murdered. Her sister has issues with drugs and these new memories might send her back into a spiral so Aspen agrees to check things out. She knew one day she would end up looking into her parents unsolved murders but she doesn't feel ready. With her sister on the edge she knows she must deal with her own unresolved feelings and steps back in time to figure out just what happened all those years ago. Along the way she asks questions of the detectives who worked on her parents case, she talks to neighbors who around during that time, and looks into the original suspects. She ends up coming across things about her parents lives that she never knew but has to figure out just where they fit into her puzzle. Things start to get dangerous as she delves deeper into her parents lives. Follow along and take this journey with Aspen, will she find out who killed her parents or will she herself become a victim in the end? This was an exciting read and I've been looking forward to Aspen investigating her parents death and seeing what outcome it would bring.

This is a wonderful boxed set, the characters were relatable and easy to get to know. I always look forward to this authors work!

I really enjoy Daryl Wood Gerber’s work and this is one of my favorite of her series. Aspen comes to life on the pages as she works to solve the mystery and I can just smell trees as I read and work along to solve the mystery.

Well written, developed characters and a solid whodunit filled with red herrings, twists and turns. You’ll be hooked from the very first page.

I love a good, boxed set to get fully immersed into a new series and this is the perfect one! This series is outstanding!

Book 1: Desolate Shores
Fantastic character development that has created a strong female lead in the PI in training, Aspen Adams with an interesting assortment of supporting characters to help enhance the storylines as there are multiple story arcs interwoven here. The book had great depth as it dealt with real life issues such as addiction, bulimia, grief, adoption and more in a manner that kept the mystery fluid and the focus of the book. I am really excited that is a series as I think that Aspen, her Aunt Max and niece Candace along with the rest of the cast of characters are quite interesting, I look forward to following as their stories meld together in future books.

Book 2: Fan Mail
This book has cemented me as a fan! An intelligent, strong and stubborn female main character is surrounded by other strong, intelligent characters with realistic flaws to make them relatable. The type of characters that you would like for neighbors, friends and family to be. The plot line is strong and well written to keep you entertained and flipping pages to see what happens next. In this book, Aspen finds herself drawn into her friend's weird connection with a serial killing stalker and needs to figure it out soon or she may find herself the next victim! I can't wait to dive into the next book in the series!

Book 3: Cold Conviction
This book should come with the warning that it will suck you in and make you lose time! Correction, the entire series should come with that warning, but in particular the plot in this book of the series was so compelling that I just couldn't stop reading. Realistic characters drive the storylines and make the plots more intriguing. In this book we follow along as Aspen, the main character, is taking on the cold case of her parents' murders and things get complicated in a hurry with old emotions brought to the surface and not knowing who from her parents past that she can trust. Excellent twists and turns to keep you up and turning pages late into the night! I am absolutely hooked and can't wait for more books in the series!
