This one starts off as a slow burn, but once the murders start piling up, the suspense kicks in fast. The story follows Emily, a single mom and cop, as she hunts down a killer who’s targeting families and may be coming for her and her daughter next.
The pacing at first was a little slow, but the twists and dark turns made up for it. I liked how the tension built between Emily and her daughter Jenna, especially as Jenna started digging into the mystery herself.
If you like creepy small-town thrillers with a personal edge, this one’s worth the read!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. I am a fan of Gregg Olsen. I will read whatever he puts out. I did enjoy this one for a quick, atmospheric, twisty read.

While there were parts of this that were suspenseful, I did not like the main character and found the whole story to be a bit chaotic.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for access to this eARC.

Thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of A Cold Dark Place by Gregg Olsen due to be published May 22, 2025

A series of murders in Washington, Iowa, and Salt Lake City days apart are somehow connected. Single mother/detective Emily Kenyon leads the hunt for the killer to find the pattern – especially since her daughter, Jenna, has also gone missing. In her race against time, can she find the predator and Jenna before it’s too late?
This is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that kept me enthralled the entire time. I loved the storyline, the characters, the twists – everything about it! It left me wanting more, and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

This is my first read from this author. Olsen is well known for crime writing so I was looking forward to this.
My first thought was how much I hated the main character. She came across as being very small minded and didn't really seem to have any strong relationship to any other character. When you struggle to get to know the main character it makes it hard to invest yourself into the rest of the story.
The main bulk of the story I did enjoy, it flowed well and I did enjoy the plot. The ending however did fall flat.
I will read his other books but not this series unfortunately.
📚I was able to read an advanced copy of title thanks to NetGalley, Gregg Olsen and Storm Publishing📚
