This book was great. I read it very quickly and enjoyed the ride!
I love the unexpected twist on the female serial killer plot.
Fran, our FMC, and our serial killer, is married to a detective, Gareth.. lol.
Fran kills her elderly neighbor, but he deserves it.
The inner monologues - so funny.
Gareth finds out his wife was the last to see the neighbor.
This was fun. The pace was fast. The humor was dark and twisty.
All of the tone was witty, and there was enough thriller/suspense to keep me engaged as a reader.
The plot is well structured and paced perfectly.
Characters are well developed. Fran more so than Gareth.
I loved this take on a thriller/serial killer book.
Definitely one to add to your summer TBR, you won't regret this lighthearted take on a female serial killer!
Thank you to NetGalley and H.J. Garbett for the opportunity read and review this book!
Happy Reading!

This had everything I love about a book! I knew from the first page that I wouldn’t be able to put this down, and I flew through it in a day. I love all types of thrillers, but books like My Wife, The Serial Killer are my absolute favourites; dark, funny and a plot that goes 100mph. This is one of my favourite books I’ve read so far this year and I’m so excited to have found another fabulous author with this style!

My Wife, The Serial Killer is a book I might have missed out on had it not been for an email from Storm Publishing. Thank goodness I read that email and acted upon it. Not reading My Wife, The Serial Killer would have been my loss. I had no idea what to expect but the premise proved irresistible. The wife is a serial killer. The husband is a police detective. What could go wrong with their marriage, right? The book is as entertaining as it is fun. Garbett deftly alternates the narration between the wife and the husband which adds to the enjoyment of the tale. It's a book which has a winning mix of murder, deduction, and scandals. The question is whether true love can emerge victorious or not once shocking truths come to light. One thing that can't be questioned is whether this book is a triumph or not. It most certainly is. Thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the advance reading copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I'm not quite sure what I should say, honestly. I thought the concept was really interesting and I was definitely intrigued within the first 25% but after that I got bored...I can't really say that I liked any of the characters and I was pretty partial to the story after the initial adrenaline from the start. I can understand the motives but a lot of the jokes didn't land for me and it all felt jumbed after a certain page.
The only character I could really say I liked was Angus...I just got very bored with the story and it went in a less high stakes (in my opinion) route that I thought it would from the summary. :(

This book follows Fran and Gareth. Fran is a serial killer whilst her husband is a detective. How far will he go for love? This book was gripping, although there were no major plot twists it was a book that needed to be pried out of my hands because I truly could not stop reading it! The thing that drew me to this book was for sure the cover along with the title of course. I think that some thrillers always have the same kind of cover but this one is more unique and I love the little details!

I loved reading My Wife, The Serial Killer by H. J. Garbett. It’s a really fun, and sometime dark, pacy thriller which also does raise moral questions.
The story unfolds from the perspective of Fran, a social worker, and also from her policeman husband Detective Gareth Donoghue. They are a young married couple planning for their future, they’ve just moved into a a new house with their angry cat Mep and they are hoping to start a family. They are trying to settle into the new neighbourhood - they have a gruff and rude neighbour Gordon and there’s also the curtain twitching busy body Beryl across the road and her dog Tony.
Gordon goes missing and Fran is arrested and charged as she was the last person to see him alive. This obviously puts Gareth in a difficult position at work. The story is very fast paced and there are lots of twists and turns and Fran’s past is revealed.
I can’t wait to read more books by H.J. Garbett.
Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Storm Publishing, for making this e-ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This book is wickedly fun in the darkest way possible. My Wife, the Serial Killer strikes a great balance between sharp humor and chilling suspense, with a plot that twists and turns just when you think you have it figured out. Fran is a fascinating character—morally complex, oddly relatable, and completely unhinged in the best sense. Watching her navigate her "problem-solving" methods while her detective husband Gareth starts putting the pieces together is both tense and hilarious.
The pacing is tight, the writing is clever, and the ending genuinely surprised me. If you enjoy crime fiction with a dark comedic edge and characters who are as entertaining as they are questionable, this one’s a solid pick.

I may have mentioned a time or two (have I? 🤔) that I like my thrillers dark. I also like my thrillers to have an injection of humour because, let's face it folks, we could all do with a laugh. (Yes, I know there's nothing remotely funny about serial killers, but this IS a work of fiction I'm reviewing, okay!) This gem of a book ticks both of those boxes in a delightful way. 🗡
I loved Fran. She didn't have the best start in life, but she didn't let it hold her back. She may be a killer, but she's intelligent, a great cook, and she has a wicked sense of humour. But, she's married to a detective in CID. 😮
I'm not going to tell you any more, plot wise. I will tell you that Gareth, (Fran's husband) well, that guy was full of surprises. 🗡
I loved My Wife, The Serial Killer. Fast paced, twisty, thrilling and witty, this was an absorbing read. 🗡
Thanks to Storm Publishing and Netgalley for the digital ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for an early e-copy of this book. 'My Wife, The Serial Killer' is a lighthearted, quick and easy read. It's a fun book, one not to be taken too seriously- just go with the flow and enjoy it.

I loved this book so much! Fran's inner dialogue was like the blood in my veins and I want to be besties even if she is a murderer.
Garbett knows how to write troubled, compelling characters that readers connect with, they write sharp, pithy dialogue and know how to get readers emotionally invested.
One of my favorites this year!
Thank you to Storm Publishing for gifting me a copy. All opinions are my own.

Even before the reasons for her crimes are exposed, I loved the character of Fran. Her story is told so matter of factly and there are surges of unexpected hilarity, like when she threatens Garth’s colleagues over teasing him and when she is dealing with the dog at the same time as disposing of body parts. Garth is also a very appealing character and I really enjoyed the story coming from the different perspectives of the two. The author manages to tell an entertaining story while also not avoiding the necessity of placing it within the bounds of the justice system and the interference of other people. It’s really well written and I loved how they also included the “life goes on” aspects of the protagonist’s world, such as the interactions with the fertility doctor. An excellent read.

Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I love a good female serial killer so when I saw the title I immediately requested the ARC. This was such a fun read too. I loved Fran’s character right off the bat. She had me laughing. It took me a minute to warm up to Gareth. At first I was thinking what does she see in this man??? But by the end I was cheering him on. I will definitely be on the look out for more books by the author.
4.5 stars rounded up!

What a great book and what a couple! A serial killer married to a police detective! It seems this is the authors debut too and I love finding a new author. This had some really laugh out loud moments as well as the mystery element and a bit more of a deeper undercurrent. I would definitely recommend this.
Similar books: The female main character and the humour reminded me of Kitty Collins, from the Katy Brent books.

A Devilish Delight! Sharp writing and humor highlight this dark thriller with Killing Eve vibes. I really enjoyed this book. A bloody good time!

This was such a good book. I loved the story and the writing so much. The characters were great and the story flowed smoothly. Will definitely read more books by this author in the future.

"My Wife, The Serial Killer" by H.J. Garbett is an absolute gem — I was hooked from the very first page. I actually laughed out loud early on and knew instantly this was going to be a wild, brilliant ride.
Fran, the main character, is deliciously diabolical and darkly hilarious. Her sarcasm and twisted humour make her unforgettable, and Garbett does an exceptional job of building her character with sharp wit and flair.
If you loved Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera, this should be next on your list. I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever stop recommending it!

This was delightfully unhinged.
Do you know the saying if you have to tell yourself you’re not a psychopath you’re almost definitely a psychopath? No? Well I think Fran needed to be told this at some point in her life, or maybe it’s her wayward parent’s fault for calling a modern baby Fran, we’ll never know.
I loved Fran’s internal monologue. Her dry sarcastic wit was phenomenal. I was definitely rooting for her to get her justice the entire time because there’s something so likeable about a boss ass bitch doing social work AND taking out pensioners in her spare time.
Gareth. What a loveable goofball. His slow descent into reality had me laughing out loud at multiple points. He was just so blissfully unaware of how the real world operated unless he had evidence and paperwork to pull apart. The way that Mep was his lifeline at the end was almost too much to handle.
Beryl’s POV at the end has me absolutely convinced I would read an entire mystery written by the nosy neighbour next door.
Thank you to Storm publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. This is my honest opinion.

I just finished a fun read. My Wife, The Serial Killer by HJ Garbett was just what I needed to reset my brain. It was a great palate cleanser.

Going by other reviews, the humour in this book mostly bypassed me.
Yes there were moments, but not that many.
It was an easy read though, and gave me a few hours entertainment.
If I came across the characters again, I'd read to see how they're doing.

Ok I absolutely loved this book! The name of it and cover first pulled me in, and I’m so glad it did!
This kept me entertained, engaged, and I binged it in under a day. I didn’t want to put this down. Thank you for the opportunity!
