This book…. It had me engrossed from the very begging. I went through a rollercoaster of emotions reading this. Absolutely loved it and cannot wait for the next one.

i really enjoyed this overall! it was extremely repetitive and the constant over the top love declarations pulled me out at times but it wasn't a big deal. i was happy to be back in this world, i love the romance, the action and the found family. i liked seeing Elowen come into herself and her power and i can't wait to see where this story goes in the future

Dnf at 40% for now. This book was quite a ride. It took me a while to get full immersed in this one. Personally I loved being able to immersive read this book with the audiobook. I highly recommend they make dramatized adaptations. This is the perfect series for that.
The story itself was a great continuation. The dragons were adorable. And the emotional connection between them and elowen was great. And was happy to have Cayden pov because I was truly not understanding his deeper motivations in the first book.
However while I do find the political storyline genuinely intriguing, I kept getting pulled out of the story due to the writing. I cant pinpoint it exactly, but it somehow was just not hitting it's mark. But I genuinely want to keep reading but I've tried many times since I started to book and I cant stay focused on the story i get lost. This may be completely on me and my personal interests at the moment but as of now it many be a while till I try to pick this up again.

I had been looking forward to book 2 for ages!
Cayden was the best character in this book. His devotion to Elowen throughout this book was everything.
There are definitely GOT vibes with the Dragons, learning about their personalities was so much fun.
The first half of the book did take a while to get going but I loved the second half.
- Dragons! With their own diva personalities
- Politics/court intrigue
- Dual POV
- Morally grey MMC
- He would do anything for her
- Marriage of convenience
- Banter
- Pining

4.5/5⭐️
I was so unbelievably excited for this book, because I adore Fear the Flames, which I‘ve read earlier this year.
So naturally my expectations were high. I was looking for plot, for romance, for more found family scenes and the beautiful writing that I‘ve seen in the first book.
Wrath of the Dragons did deliver all that. Although I have to admit that I struggled through about 50% of the book to keep my attention onto the story. But as then suddenly the plot picked up and more amazing characters were brought into the story, I was hooked for the rest of the book.
Epic Battles that showed so much more of the Dragons than what we‘ve seen in the previous books. Elowen‘s and Cayden‘s relationship was growing stronger with each burden they have to overcome and the ending destroyed me!
I absolutely recommend this book and can‘t wait to continue the story! 💙

I really liked where the story was taking us in book two, after the great ending of the first book. I enjoyed the story and I enjoyed the character development, but just like with book one I felt like something was missing, a certain spark for me to just give this a 10/10.
If you like dragons, strong female character, and a nice MMC, this series will definitely be something for you. I am unsure if I will read the third and final book, but I probably will just to have a complete ending haha

3.5⭐️
In theory I should adore this series and while I'm finding it okay and enjoyable to a point, something just isn't quite hitting!
I normally love a down bad boy, but if I had to hear Cayden talking about Elowyn swaying her hips one more time I would have screamed. 🤣 I'm not fully enjoying their relationship, it's felt a little too insta love for me I think.
I do really like the found family aspect of these books and I love Finnian.
The first half of the book felt a little drawn out and parts of the epic battle did feel a little predictable and anti-climatic but that ending was crazy and I didn't expect it. I am intrigued as to where the next book will take things, so I will definitely be wrapping up this series but it isn't one of my favourites for sure.
Thank you to @netgalley and @bonnierbooks_uk @zaffrebooks for the e-arc

OMG THAT ENDING!!
I've been eagerly anticipating this sequel ever since I read the indie version of book one, and was just so happy to be back in the world.
I have heard that there have been a lot of tweaks and changes to the trad edition of book one, compared to the indie version, so I did go into the sequel a bit nervous. The pacing started off a bit slow, but after the first couple of hundred pages, the pace really picked up. The political tension was top tier, and the way it affected the romance was soooo good. I was also so excited to see the world expand so much more in this sequel.
I loved anything involving the dragons, and watching Elowen's character development was such a joy. I loved the addition of Cayden's POV too.
Can't wait for the next book!

I adored the first book in the series and was expecting the sequel to live up to it…. THAT ENDING!!! This book had me sobbing my little heart out, so emotional. The found family in this is just amazing. If I could give it more than five stars I would!

I so wanted to love this book but it was hit and miss for me.
The first half was so slow and I found myself not wanting to go back to it. I’d seen reviews say the second half was better so I persevered and I’m glad I did. It definitely picks up in the second half and I found it more enjoyable but I’m not sure whether to continue the series, it just didn’t live up to the first book

3.5⭐️. I really want to love this series but, unfortunately, something about it just isn’t quite hitting the mark for me. Wrath of the Dragons picks up where Fear the Flames left off and I thought the relationship was quite insta-lovey in the first book, so, in this one, when Cayden was waxing lyrical from Chapter 1 about how out of this world he thinks Elowen is, I found it not entirely believable, which made it was hard to be fully bought in to their relationship. And the constant references to Elowen swaying her hips as she walked away from or towards him - honestly, who sways their hips all the time when they’re angry?! 🙈😂
Everything in this book (except the dramatic ending) felt too easy, which means that it didn’t feel high stakes, when it should. And I’m not sure how I feel about Elowen’s actions constantly being justified by her traumatic experiences. Like this statement:
“If two thieves commit the same crime, their morality can often be found in their motives.” It completely ignores impact - if people are being killed, they’re still dead, even if she’s doing it for revenge on her father and he’s doing it just because he’s power hungry.
That being said, Cayden is the best part of this book. His Elowen-obsession aside, I like that he has retained his own, often quite dark character and hasn’t just become a simp who follows the FMC around. The found family is another aspect I enjoy in this series and I’m intrigued to see where it goes after the introduction of some new characters, who I’m hoping could be interesting additions to the plot going forward. I was on the fence about whether I want to continue with the series but I think the cliff hanger has intrigued me enough that I probably will.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC of this book.

Wrath of the Dragons by Olivia Rose Darling is an action-packed, fiery fantasy that had me hooked from the very first chapter! 🐉🔥 The pacing is fast, the tension is high, and there’s just the right mix of danger, intrigue, and emotional depth to keep you turning the pages.
The world-building is vivid and immersive — you can almost feel the heat of the dragons and the weight of the looming war. The characters are wonderfully complex, and I especially enjoyed watching their relationships evolve as loyalties are tested and secrets come to light. There are plenty of twists along the way that kept me guessing, and Olivia Rose Darling’s writing style makes it so easy to get lost in the story.
I did find myself wanting just a little more depth in certain character motivations, but that didn’t take away from the excitement and drama of the plot. Overall, this is a thrilling, addictive fantasy adventure perfect for fans of powerful magic, political intrigue, and, of course, dragons. 🐲✨

Wrath of the Dragons is the second book in the Fear the Flames series! Cayden Veles, the Demon Commander, is now the reigning king of Vareveth after overthrowing the throne in order to save Elowen Atarah. In order to get revenge on Elowen’s father, the king of Imirath, he has to force Elowen into marriage. Cayden knows exactly what he wants, but Elowen’s heart is conflicted after he broke her trust. To get her vengeance, Elowen must trust Cayden, despite her lack of trust for him.
I adored the found family Elowen and Cayden created with Ryder, Saskia, and Finnian. I could read pages upon pages of their banter. I enjoyed the additions to their crew/alliance and hope to hear more of their stories in the next books.
The yearning and tension between Elowen and Cayden is the stuff of ballads. I loved getting both their POVs and thought it added great depth and balance to the overall narrative. This series truly scratches that romantasy itch with epic battles, a unique magic system, feminine rage, and a world-ending love.
Overall, this book was an amazing sequel and has very firmly landed this series as one I am going to love!

wrath of dragons - olivia rose darling
damn cayden has it bad!
this is the sequel to fear the flames so i won’t go into too much details - all you need to know is that this takes yearning and it turns it up to 100.
we pick up immediately after the events of fear the flames with cayden and elowyn figuring out what they are going to do now with all the threats on the borders. what i loved about the first book is the banter between the two leads - it isn’t so much enemies to lovers as allies to friends to lovers - but it takes a while for the banter to get started in this one. there are some sections that are repetitive and the pacing is a little slow but once we get cooking it’s just as addictive as the first book.
the ending was definitely the best bit and made me excited for the next one!
thank you @netgalley for the early copy. wrath of dragons is out now

Wrath of the Dragons was such a wild ride! The first couple hundred pages were a little slow for me, but once the story picked up, I was fully hooked. The action, the twists, and especially Ellowen’s bond with her dragons completely stole the show, those moments were some of my absolute favorites. 💫
I also really enjoyed the political intrigue and the way it added layers of tension to the romance. Ellowen and Cayden are adorable together, but let’s be real… Cayden remains the undeniable star of this series 😏🔥. He’s sweet, loyal, and so down bad for her, and I loved every second of it.
This book has it all: dragons, politics, romance, banter, and high-stakes drama. Olivia Rose Darling’s worldbuilding is rich and immersive, and the story left me excited to see where this series will go next!
Thank you to NetGalley and Olivia Rose Darling for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thankyou so much for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! I really loved the first book however this sequel just didn’t connect with me the same way unfortunately.

This book was everything! The connection between the dragons, the found family, the yearning. It had everything my little romantasy heart wanted. I did have to keep going back to remember what happened in book one but other than that I was hooked.
Thank you for the arc

WELL DAMN. I AM SHOOKETH 😱
It took me some time to get to reading it as I hit a bit of a reading slump before the release date, so I am late on my ARC review 🥲
But finally this is the book I signed up for with more dragons, plot, politics, battles, and feelings!
The story was so much better than the first one in terms of pacing, and overall I really liked it.
The new characters were a great addition, the various twists and discoveries were on point, keeping it captivating until the end.
AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT THAT ENDING THOUGH??? (without spoilers of course.)😭😱
I dont cry with books.
AND HERE I DID.
Okay, not big tears, but they rolled on my cheeks alright?
Like... the feeeeeeeeels with that ending! Oooof. 🥺
However, all of that is great, but Cayden is for me a tad too patronising and condescending towards Elowen when they bicker or during the spice scenes I find, even objectifying and s3xualising her at times. And although Elowen is happy with it, that did not sit right with me. Now, you might not see it in the same light as me!
But the rest of the story, the dragons time, the politics, Elowen and Cayden's "emotional elevator" (French phrase 🤓) of feelings but still very much with rage at the forefront, a lot of well placed and timely quotes and moments that are very relevant to our societies, and the final twists, made it all pretty fantastic.
This book is for you if you love:
❤️🔥 feminine rage and revenge hyped up
❤️🔥 devotion
❤️🔥 dragons
❤️🔥 political intrigue
❤️🔥 spice 🌶🌶🌶
❤️🔥 A hell of a twisty ending!!
❤️🔥 more magical discoveries

This was a great continuation to fear the flames! I read it a few years ago and always wanted to know what happened next.
A lot of political intrigue happens in this book, as well as emotional and trauma healing for Elowen.
She wants to claim her birthright, her throne and for that she needs to marry Cayden, whom she doesn’t know if he wants her or ticket to the throne she represents.
I loved the evolution of their relationship and the way he is protective and selfless when she’s concerned.
He has the most swoon - worthy dialogues and I loved their bond.
The ending was painful though and I am curious to to find out how his quest will go.
Thank you Bonnier books UK and NetGalley for this ARC!

Olivia Rose Darling’s Wrath of the Dragons is an absolute triumph of romantasy—fiery, emotional, and utterly unforgettable. From the very first page, the prose pulls you in with a lyrical beauty that’s as devastating as it is breathtaking. Darling’s writing is gorgeously quotable; I found myself pausing again and again to highlight lines that hit like poetry, each one weaving deeper emotion into the story. The world of Ravaryn expands here with even more richness and intrigue than in Fear the Flames. Every detail—from sweeping landscapes to the crackle of ancient magic—feels alive, and the political tension is layered seamlessly with heart-pounding action and devastating personal stakes.
But at the heart of it all is the romance. Elowen and Cayden’s relationship is the perfect balance of tender vulnerability and scorching intensity. Their banter is electric, their devotion gut-wrenching, and their love feels as powerful as the dragons themselves. Darling doesn’t shy away from the messy, raw edges of their bond, making their passion feel all the more real. The chemistry between them is intoxicating, and yet it’s the emotional depth—the way they cling to each other through grief, danger, and sacrifice—that makes their story so completely consuming.
This book is an emotional rollercoaster in the best way possible. The highs are euphoric, filled with swoon-worthy moments and unforgettable declarations, while the lows sink into your bones and leave you reeling. By the time I reached the ending, I was in tears—both devastated and in awe of how powerfully it all came together. Darling proves herself a master at delivering gut-punches without losing sight of hope, and the final chapters left me desperate for more.
Wrath of the Dragons is everything I want in a fantasy romance: lush writing, a vividly imagined world, a love story that burns with intensity, and emotions that cut right to the core. It’s not just a sequel—it’s a book that surpasses its predecessor in every way, solidifying Olivia Rose Darling as one of the most exciting voices in the genre. Fans of romantasy will find themselves haunted by this story long after the last page is turned.
