This is a novel that will grip up and keep you gripped until the end. Siblings Kevin, Alex and Bonnie set out for a trip of a lifetime three decades ago but never made it to the Grand Canyon. Now, they are asked by their mother to relive the road – a request made by their ailing mother – and they’re back in a vehicle, with decades of things said and not said as company. They’re the people who are meant to know each other the best, but how true is that?

This book will suck you in and keep you reading. I really enjoyed it. It's slow and layered and the author is really skilled at dropping in hints that unfold into a whole. The premise is really interesting and while it seems odd that all three agree to undertaking a difficult journey to a sick mother when there would be a much faster way to get to her, the reader fully believes in the mother wanting the siblings to spend time with each other and discover themselves and each other, and the siblings' automatic obedience of their parents. The three MC's are really believable, and all very different people, albeit with a shared history. Their different reactions to things that happen along the way really shows them as individuals. Alex, Kevin and Bonnie all have their own stories and I loved the way different elements of their stories are revealed in a very natural way as the narrative moves forward. The unwinding of what happened all those years ago is really intriguing, though we know in essence what it was. The repercussions are heartbreaking and long-lasting. This is an excellent read from a wonderful author.

oh this book invited me in, sat me down and handed me a hug. such a thoughtful and lovely book that is the type i just love. i get right in to these books and this one was no exception.
there were so much to the story but also so much more to think about besides what you might think going in.
the story brings us to three Taiwanese siblings who are on a journey together in more ways than one. a long time ago the family all set for a trip to the Grand Canyon. but things never worked out that way.but now years later on the way home to their ill mother she requests them to do this trip on their way. and it is delivered to us as readers via a wonderful story of bonds, differences in how we all assume our loved ones take things, how we take things and then how they might actually be. we also get a seamless and tight telling of the troubles our three faces in America and the troubles of America itself. its never overbearing, judgy or preachy. just real.
this book is such a smart and emotionally wonderful book. one you get right there into alongside our characters.you know them, you want to know them, and you want to know their journey with them. they all had some battles coming to this story. and ok those might not go away, but they dont have to do it alone.
this was a book i swept through and loved coming back to every time i had a short break(life getting in the way and stuff ;D)

I want to thank the publishers for this arc!

The storyline was really interesting and I liked the plot overall. I would recommend this to a friend if they’re going to have a physical copy. I received this to my kindle and experienced a unique issue. The author name and cover art was absent; the formatting had text overlayed within the book and it was difficult to read. I had to skip over parts because of this difficulty. I have a new kindle and haven’t had this issue with any other books, arcs or otherwise. It was disappointing and did impact my experience overall, but that isn’t the fault of the author.

Something happened to the family of five on the way to the Grand Canyon which caused them to turn around before they got there. The three children of Taiwanese immigrants never got over their disappointment. Many years later the grown-up children, now living separate lives, got together to re-trace their steps and to finally complete the road trip, on their way to see their sick mother. They have many adventures and distractions on the way. Racism in the USA is a strong theme of this book, although the author denies this as an intention. An interesting and well-written read.
