Granny Squares is a fun and vibrant crochet book that does exactly what it sets out to do—provide clear, colorful inspiration for both beginners and more experienced crafters. The projects aren’t groundbreaking, but they’re cheerful, accessible, and well-explained, with lovely photography throughout. I especially appreciate how it encourages you to think beyond the traditional granny square and apply it to all sorts of modern home and wardrobe items. It’s not revolutionary, but it is refreshing—and sometimes, that’s exactly what you need to get the creativity flowing.

To be honest, I have been looking for a book like this! I boldly ordered a kit online several months ago to make a large granny square blanket with no idea how to get started. This was exactly what I needed!

I was a little worried at first because the designs/templates for all of the cool stuff you can make WITH the granny squares is at the beginning of the book. After reading further, I was pleased to find the image list/instruction pages for all of the different granny square shapes you need to know to make the cool stuff from the beginning of the book. It grew on me how this book was set up. It went from big picture/project, to granny squares, to crochet techniques, abbreviations, and how to hold the hook.

I like that they added the US terms and had clear lists of what you need for each project.

Overall, this is a great book for beginners and those that want to learn how to make even more projects using granny squares. The images are beautiful & informative.

Thank you to NetGalley, Françoise Vauzeilles, & Michael O'Mara Limited for the eARC!

Granny Squares,by Francoise Vauzeilles

I crochet but have lost my mo-jo for it these last few years , however on looking through this book there are lots of things that I've thought would be nice to do !
I need to find my hooks and look for some lovely yarn and get working through the book.
Thanks for that !
