The Lion Book of Fairy Tales is a collection of fairy tales for young children, some very well known, such as Cinderella and the Three Little Pigs, and some lesser known such as The Three Wishes and Stone Soup.
This is a nice collection of short fairy tales for young children, probably suitable for pre-school age (3-4 years), as the stories are quite short. They are well-illustrated and a nice mix of the familiar and the new. I particularly enjoyed reading Stone Soup and Hidden Treasure, which is set in eastern Europe and has the same vibe as The Alchemist, as these stories were new to me. Some of the fairy tales have become slightly sanitised and to keep them short for the young audience, it did feel like some ended quite abruptly without a clear moral or ending.
A good introductory collection of fairy tales for young readers. 3 stars.
