This book is the perfect read for Halloween. The illustrations are absolutely stunning—each page beautifully captures the spirit of the season. Everything about the story evokes a deep sense of autumn nostalgia, from crisp fall days to the warm glow of jack-o’-lanterns. It’s a cozy, enchanting experience that truly embodies the magic of Halloween.

This was an adorable Halloween kids book. I read it to my daughters who is 5 and she enjoyed both the story and the pictures

I've been a huge fan of Laurie Conley's illustrations for a long time, and this story's art is no exception. Locascio's prose is whimsical and sweet, which match the visuals perfectly. Some of the vocabulary is a bit advanced for the youngest kiddos, but it's a good teaching opportunity for the parents or readers to learn new words!

With its beautiful cover and quirky name, how could I not read Spoops: The Little Spirits of Halloween? Written in poetic verse, this cute children's book explores just how the leaves change color, the weather begins to turn, and the spirits wake up. Little Holly is stuck at home while everyone else is having fun! All she wants is to go trick or treating, but at 9 years old, she has never been allowed to go. Luckily the Spoops have found her and make it their goal to cheer her up!
The whimsical writing is matched perfectly with the minimally colored illustrations and a very short book turns into something you could fall into for a long time. You just can't look away!
Spoops is a very cute book for the kids and adults who love Halloween. Exploring different ways of celebration other than just eating sweets. I recommend that everyone gets this for their young ones to enjoy for many many years to come!
Thank you to NetGalley and IDW for the ARC of this book. It is truly appreciated, and all opinions are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book. A cute halloween book for kids about the little spirits who make fall and halloween fun for everyone. The story is compelling and the artwork is adorable. A welcome addition to any collection.

Thank you to Netgalley and publishers for my ARC.
This was adorable! I love Holly so much; she's so precious. This is the perfect, most Halloweeny book that readers of all ages could find joy in.
However, if you're looking for a spooky read for a younger reader, be prepared to read this story to them because there are some pretty advanced words thrown in here.

The Spoops were as adorable as I’d hoped they be. If anything, to his story had too many humans and not enough Spoops.
As someone who is growing appreciation for Halloween, this book was a blend of vintage Halloween (pen and ink drawings with orange accents) with adorably imaginative Halloween spirits.
This book in verse a little Halloween treat that is dentist approved.
Thank you to AJ Locascio, Laurie Conley, IDW Publishing, and Top Shelf Productions for granting me an eARC through NetGalley.

A very cute story, centered around the Halloween holiday or event, but it tells us about much more than just that event.
I liked that everything rhymes, the lovely illustrations, and the way the story is told about this little girl's life and her bond with her parents was wonderful. It's perfect for talking with children.
Thank you so much, Top Shelf Productions, for the ARC I read on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the illustrations in this book! The vintage feel was perfect for the Halloween story. However, I found reading a graphic novel in rhyming verse too tiresome. Had this been shorter and condensed into a picture book, it would have been super fun for a fall story time, but it wasn't a fun read after the 50% mark.

ARC was given by NetGalley & Quill & IDW Publishing | Top Shelf Productions.

This was such a cute and wholesome read. Perfect for the autumnal, Halloweeny season or any of the time really. I loved the art and the simplistic color pallet chosen for this graphic novel. In a way, it reminded me a lot of vintage Halloween and Over the Garden Wall. Overall, this was a super precious, fast read. One that I recommend for all Halloween lovers!
All thoughts, feelings, experiences, and opinions are honest and my own.

This fun little book had a cute concept. Holly loves Halloween but her dentist parents are totally against the holiday because it promotes eating sweets. This lengthy ( 70 pages) picture books is written in rhyme reminiscent of early Dr Seuss and illustrated in a nostalgic mid-century 2 tone line art style. Magical Spoops are cute creatures that help bring the spirit of Halloween to all. With their help, Holly manages to celebrate Halloween after all. The theme of this story is to be yourself. Unfortunately this is a cute concept with fantastic art is search of an audience. The title sounds like a picture book. The book is being makreted as a middlegrade graphic novel. And while, the word count is more appropriate to middle grade, it is a picture book, not a graphic novel. The vocabulary is too sophisticated for even middle grade and the rhyming doesn't always keep to the meter, making this book more appropriate for adults who could see the humor in the language. I enjoyed this book, but I would recommend it to older readers.

What an beautifully written halloween story. I loved the idea of children being true to themselves and showing thier spooky side.

What an adorable little book! I'd have absolutely read this book cover to cover in a single sitting as a kid but well, I still love children's books and cute illustrations so it's still a win.
Holly is the daughter of a dentist couple who happen to absolutely despise Halloween as it promotes eating candies and they cannot seem to bear the thought of Holly engaging in such activities. But Holly always loved everything about Halloween. It was her entire personality which her parents were suppressing without letting her contest for her case. But eventually Halloween was in the air and so were the little Spoops accidentally summoned by Holly. They bring Halloween to her home and showed her parents the magic and spirit of Halloween. The best part? The parents accepted that Halloween was Holly's thing and parents were just humans who can't always be right. They decided to celebrate Halloween together and carve pumpkins and dress up as teeth for the occasion.
I absolutely love creepy books with illustrations. Though this one wasn't really creepy but it got me in the Halloween spirit. Also, I feel like so many children are going to feel seen because there are times when they're deemed too odd or too quirky for the adults but hey there are books for absolutely everyone and this one might just be for you!

This is the perfect wholesome Halloween read! We follow a young girl who cannot deny the Halloween spirit inside of her, even as her parents do not allow her to partake in the holiday. After making a wish on a Jack-O-Lantern, Spoops (tiny Halloween spirits) begin to appear to help her live out her dream. She brings the community together and learns the importance of being true to yourself. Highly recommend for the season!

This was so absolutely beyond adorable! First, the illustrations, absolutely loved! They were so cute, slightly spooky, and absolutely perfect for this story. Then, the actual story told here is so heart warming. I love the message of even if others may consider you "odd" you should always just be yourself. It was also sweet to see that over time get parents came to understand they were too harsh and needed to let their child express herself.

This is such a sweet fun fall story. I love the rhyming structure and the cute autumn doodles. And I love the idea behind all of this. Even the title is SO cute. Such a great Halloween book!

Perfectly gorgeous illustrations accompany the most glorious Halloween story. We would have given it more stars if we could! For children slightly older 5-7, a story all of the joys and wonder of Halloween BEYOND just eating candy. As a parent, what stood out beautifully was seeing the parents apologize and make reparations to their daughter. What a beautiful example to set! Absolutely loved everything about this, especially the vocabulary. A Halloween must read!!

Thank you to IDW Publishing | Top Shelf Productions and NetGalley for this e-ARC.
An engaging, sweet and nostalgic tale of Halloween/Samhaim to in verse and beautifully illustrated with strategically minimal colors! The story of a young girls who's parents are dental professionals who do not like the Halloween holiday, and the help she receives from the Halloween Spoops spirits.
What really struck me was the artwork; the drawings only utilized orange, yellow and gray tones that truly evoked Halloween. Further, the style had an old-timey, nostalgic appearance, which the illustrator commented on in her bio, that that was the intent.
A great read that I recommend for this Halloween/Samhaim holiday season for kidz of all ages!

All the ghouls and goblins gotta read this one!
Little Holly Hollowell LOVES Halloween, but her dentist parents want nothing to do with the tooth-rotting holiday. Poor Holly has no outlet for all this appreciation for what she sees clearly to be the best time of the year. Her parents make it clear that she will NOT be trick-or-treating, turn of all the outside lights, lock the doors and take off to some work event, leaving Holly home alone on the night of Trick-or-Treat. She watches other kids from the window and it's so heartbreaking - until the cutest little characters are introduces. The spirits of Halloween, referred to as Spoops, can take many forms like pumpkins, bats, skeletons, mummies, etc. These floating little friends save the day, bringing Halloween straight into the house for Holly. The spirit is alive with the minimal color illustration style - like hopping straight into the fall vibes. Perfect for lovers of Halloweentown, Halloween, and all things spoopy!

This is a children's story written in verse. I loved the artwork and its limited color palette. The Spoops are the most adorable thing ever that, if they existed as figurines, I would love to have on my shelves.
The story tells us how Holly's parents have never let her celebrate Halloween, but after making a wish, the Spoops appear to show everyone how beautiful this celebration can be.
Despite being a simple story for younger audiences, it is very sweet and beautiful, leaving you with a pleasant feeling after reading it.
I'm sure that reading it in hardcover must be much more enjoyable, as there are several double pages that cannot be appreciated in the same way in digital format. So if you're thinking of getting it, I would recommend buying the hardcover!
