I really enjoyed reading Samm's adventure. Ross Mackenzie writes settings so well, you feel that you are there with the characters. I especially liked reading the circus part of the story. This is a book that would be enjoyed by the 10-11 year olds that I teach and would appeal to a range of readers.

This was your typical Ross Mackenzie fare. Entertaining and a must read for any fan of his work. I couldnt wait to get to the end to find out the fate of Young Samm and by the end I even almost shed a tear over the relationship he developed with the not so friendly Brogan.

That said Im not actually sure what age group I would recommend it to. The magic and the world of Faerie would appeal to younger readers but it dealt with some quite adult themes and was pretty dark in places.

Another brilliant book by Ross Mackenzie. The people from faerie are forced to seek refuge in the human world. Ally, just 5 at the time, is there when a door between both worlds opens.

Years later, Samm is searching for the locksmith to find a way home.
Suspense, adventure, kindness and friendship. A thoroughly enjoyable read that I struggled to put down.
Highly recommend.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book.

I enjoyed this book. I liked the author's Emporium books and it's nice to have books set in Scotland.

The plot of this is good, interesting and intriguing. The characters are appealing, their interactions are authentic and the growing friendship between Samm and Brogan is lovely. I also like that Ally is an ordinary boy, a bit on the plump side, not super clever or athletic.

I was a little concerned at the start of the book because I thought it was going to be some sort of parable about welcoming strangers and then I was concerned by the internment camps, wondering if the book would get a bit heavy but all was well, it is all about the adventures although I suppose these asylum parts of the story could be used as a springboard for discussion.

I liked the idea that stones can tell their stories although I thought the stone demon attack in the museum was a bit overdone. I would read further adventures of Samm and Ally.

A gripping, beautifully written fantasy full of heart and danger. Samm Wolfback is a brilliant protagonist, and his journey through the eerie world of Glass Forest and beyond is packed with mystery, magic, and emotional depth. The concept of Faerae refugees is both powerful and original. Dark, imaginative, and utterly unputdownable — I loved every page.
