Amigurumi Critters is a fantastic beginners+/intermediate (re)introduction to crochet. Though, it can certainly be enjoyed by proficient crocheters thanks to the adorable patterns and inclusion of a few complex patterns. While I am proficient in pattern-reading and amigurumi crochet techniques, I found the introduction explaining terms, techniques, and materials to be very informative and well-rounded for those getting acquainted with the craft. Inclusion of QR codes leading to videos is very helpful and competitive with some of the big crochet companies right now like Woobles. I think these designs are delightful, achievable, and more versatile since they are built around a material and gauge that is accessible beyond a proprietary yarn. The sea turtles are aesthetically my favorite pattern of the book and unique within the myriad of sea turtle patterns out there. I found the accompanying video supported by the QR code to be informative and I was happy to browse other videos. The shell is simply beautiful. The pig, however, brings the most joy to my household. Overall, I’d certainly recommend this book on crochet to others. I think it’s a little on the advanced side for people absolutely brand new to crochet and won’t teach crochet, but I don’t think that’s a problem for the book. I think my only wish would be to see a small explanation on yarn size and perhaps an option to scale one or two of the simpler projects to a larger size for fun. That said, very well-rounded book, good amount of patterns, delightful designs. Thank you to NetGalley for supplying an e-ARC for my review.

This is a great book of amigurumi patterns for people looking to expand their crochet skills! The patterns are all easy to read and the creatures are adorable.
My only complaint is that the patterns have specific recommendations for yarn and colors, and I wish it were more generic. For example, just stating a general color and yarn weight rather than a specific brand and color.

The intro pages were very clear and detailed, helpful for both beginners and advanced crocheters. The layout of the book is great going from easiest to hardest critter.
I made the otter and I found the pattern is to follow and the pictures incredibly helpful.

From the author letter in the front to the beautiful instructions and commentary throughout, Amy Ting brings a fresh energy to the crochet world. Her recommendations are informational. Her instructions and illustrations are easy to follow. The level of project difficulty is throughly thought through. Absolutely recommend 100%.

Such a good book for people getting in to crocheting amigurumi animals! Has so many fun different choices and breaks down all the patterns well! Excited to make all these patterns!

Amazing book. Incredibly beginner friendly, the patterns are easy to understand and follow, and it has plenty of different cute things to make!

Amigurumi Critters by Amy Ting is a great book for beginner crocheters. The book has a great overview of the tools needed: Hooks, Yarn, Daring Needles, Sewing Pins, Stich Markers, Safety Eyes. It includes difficulty information for all the patterns. It also includes detailed descriptions and pictures of the stiches. My daughter who is 12 loved this book and has been using it to help her learn to crochet. Her favorite pattern is the Sea Otter Family.

Great visuals with good descriptions to get you to a satisfying critter to smile at. I was very interested in a method used in another critter included within the cover. Yes, NetGalley thank you for this great introduction to Amy Ting.

I am a still quite a beginner to crochet, only really starting to learn a few months ago but this book is so helpful! All the patterns are very easy to follow (even for me), and just absolutely adorable! I mostly make Amigurmi animals, so this was such a super helpful book to find. So many new animals for me to make 🤗
I like that the book goes from beginner projects and works you up to the more advanced ones. It feels a little less daunting doing it that way which I appreciate as a beginner myself. Although I will say even the number three level projects toward the end are quite easy to understand. I didn't make any of those ones yet, but they look easy enough to follow along to, especially with the pictures. I am very much a visual learner, so those pictures are a necessity to me!
I think I'm most excited about making the sloth, the koala, the pug, the shark, the frog, the chicken, and the adorable pig! All of the animals have such cute and unique personalities, and you can tell the creator put a lot of time into making each little animal. So exciting to start crocheting some of these!
Thank you to Net Galley for the eARC of this in exchange for my honest review! 🫶🏼

This book is filled with super cute amigurumi. I love how each little critter has a name and backstory at the beginning of their pattern. I also appreciate the varying levels of difficulty making it a good one for beginners but also something a more seasoned crocheter can appreciate.

As someone who loves to crochet (and gifted way too many handmade things last year 😅), this book was such a fun find! The patterns are absolutely adorable—especially the penguin and monkey, which totally stole my heart. I haven’t had a chance to make anything from it yet, but the instructions look super easy to follow and beginner-friendly. Can’t wait to dive in!

I received a copy of this eBook from netGalley for a honest review.
I like all the pictures in this book- it really helps you see what everything is supposed to look like. The patterns are adorable and I like how they are set up easiest to hardest. A great guide to anyone doing amigurumi.

When I saw the fox for this book on NetGalley, I knew I needed to make it.
I think for the most part the patterns are written in an easy to read way. While making the fox, I got confused about where to put the eyes since it was in the assembly section instead in the head and body section.
Overall, super cute and unique animals!

Cute animals and well-written instructions from what I gleaned from thumbing through the digital book. I’m looking forward to crocheting the fox and koala.

Great patterns from the creator of Courageous Papaya, very cute and fun. Can't wait to try them out. I appreciated how detailed the patterns were, as well as how accessible. The photography is also very well done and I especially liked the Mallard Duck!

If you’re looking for a super cute and comprehensive crochet pattern book, then this is the book for you! Inside, you will find 25 adorable patterns along with a pretty good guide to crocheting. I also like that there’s QR codes included for anyone who needs them, whether it’s yarn recommendations or tutorial videos. Plus, the patterns are well written, have difficulty levels listed, and include multiple photos that will be helpful to crocheters of all skill levels.
My favorite pattern is Perry the Pug. It’s the pattern that really caught my eye and I can’t wait to crochet that up! That said, every single pattern is super cute, and I’m excited to see capybaras included because I’m obsessed with them.

I thought this pattern book was very thoughtfully done. The instructions are very thorough and I absolutely loved that there are pictures to accommodate every explanation. This makes this such a great pattern book for beginners. The only draw back for me, someone who is at the experienced level, is that there weren't many unique pieces. I was hoping to find more creatures I haven't seen before. That being said I did find a couple that I plan to make for myself as well as gifts and I cannot wait to make myself some spiders and a chicken!

Amigurumi Critters contains instructions for a multitude of adorable, amigurumi creatures. The stories associated with each animal are cute and heartwarming and designs vary in difficulty.
Amy Ting recognizes that crocheting amigurumi requires good knowledge of the basic stitches and skips over the how to for the basics. Instead, Ting outlines the more advanced skills and encourages readers to watch her YouTube channel for help with the various techniques she uses.
Overall, great crochet book - well written instructions, great pictures, and cute animals.

To disclose my skill level outright, I am an accomplished knitter who eyes cute amigurumi and wishes I had the skill to navigate what seem like generally straightforward plushes. However, crocheting three-dimensional toys has eluded me. When I saw AMIGURUMI CRITTERS by Amy Ting, I quickly downloaded it to explore more. Could I actually successfully crochet such adorable creatures?
The author knows her audience and opens with welcome practical advice (e.g., use hook two sizes smaller than yarn recommendations, to prevent gaps) and then transitions to helpful step-by-step photos of common techniques (as well as links to YouTube videos).
Patterns, arranged by difficulty level, offer a delightful range of critters with a host of personalities and relationships. I personally am particularly obsessed with the koala and am highly motivated to attempt it, as well as the frog. There are other clever patterns, some I’ve not necessarily seen before (sea otters, axolotl, capybaras).
This is a colorful title I’d like to add to my personal library and would welcome it for other crafters ready for a new adventure.
(Thank you to Cider Mill Press for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.)

The critters are cute, and have a nice level of backstory. Three instructions for each critter are well laid out with references to the techniques taught at the beginning of the book. I do wish for a bit better photography on some of the beginning techniques.
