Starlight and Space Between is a sequel that deepens the story of Cori and Aster five years after Where Starlight Burns. Their relationship is the emotional core of the book, tested by physical distance and high-stakes choices, yet always rooted in care and mutual support. The story blends cozy sapphic romance with sci-fi elements that feel immersive without becoming overwhelming. Cori’s mission to the ice planet Nephele introduces real tension while revealing more of her past as a refugee and her growth as a character.. Themes of identity, love, and resilience are handled with care, including thoughtful trans representation. While some readers may crave more action, the story’s focus on emotional realism and connection makes it quietly powerful. It’s the kind of sci-fi that lingers satisfyingly.

I really enjoyed Alicia Haberski’s Starlight and Space Between. It’s such a cozy, heartfelt sci-fi romance. Picking up five years after the first book, we see Cori and Aster settled into their life on Centauride Station, with their relationship feeling warm and genuine. The way their love deepens, especially as they face the challenge of separation for the first time, is beautifully handled and felt very real. I appreciated how the story didn’t shy away from the tough moments, but also showed the strength of their bond through care and honest communication.
The sci-fi elements were fun and immersive without overwhelming the story: Cori’s the mission to the icy planet Nephele and the unexpected twists add just the right amount of tension and adventure but, as you’ll see, inform greatly inform subsequent events. I enjoyed what felt like detailed worldbuilding, from the culture of the space station to the vivid descriptions of an alien environment, it felt rich and thoughtfully crafted. Which is important to say because that never overwhelms or takes much page time, making this story ideal for those who don’t love hard, teach-page-filled sci-fi.
Cori’s backstory as a different refugee adds depth and complexity, making her character even more compelling. Ms. Haberski manages to incorporate some current society issues, while placing them neatly in the story.
But what really stands out? The cozy, intimate atmosphere throughout the book. Despite the stakes and moments of stress, the story maintains a tender, hopeful tone. The way Cori and Aster support each other, seek help when needed, and navigate their challenges together makes their relationship feel grounded and inspiring.
If you’re looking for a sci-fi romance that balances exciting space adventure with warm, emotional connection, this could be a super pick! I’m looking forward to the next instalment in the Nova Moss Chronicles and its neat combo of approachable sci-fi and pleasant romance. If you're looking for a relatively gentle story with some engaging and relatable characters and a comforting feel, this series should be right in your spacelane.
Thank you to the author and the publisher, and to NetGalley for the chance to explore love and planets in this ARC.

This book was rather surprising. I haven’t read the first book in the series, I do think it could have been beneficial to have read it, but it’s also ok without it.
I liked the storyline of this book, I perhaps could have done with a little more space action, less of the cozy drama. It definitely is nice enough and the characters seem fun. I hope for another instalment of the series

About a doctor and botanist who finally settle down and start figuring out their relationship amidst the prejudices of the society around them, this was a short and sweet read but it unfortunately wasn't my cup of tea. I wasn't a fan of the writing style and the plot was a little too straightforward for my taste. However, if you enjoy cozy sapphic sci-fi this might be more to your liking.
