Thank you for providing me with an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
When I started reading, I didn't realize this was the 26th book in the series, and I haven't read any of the previous installments. While there were mentions of past events that I expected to be explored further, the author did an excellent job of providing just enough detail to create intrigue without making me feel lost.
The book immediately dives into a horrific scene and maintains relentless suspense throughout, delivering a truly thrilling experience. I finished it in less than 24 hours, and at one point, I had to take a break because I was so emotionally invested in the story and its characters.
If you're looking for a captivating summer read, this series is a fantastic choice! I'm now excited to go back and read the entire series from the beginning.

Another amazing addition to this series. As usual the villain is totally unexpected & perfectly vile. You absolutely have to finish this in one setting; it is too hard to put down. Love it, love it, love it. I cannot wait for the next one!

Good Girls Don't Cry is book 26 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series by D.K. Hood.
DK Hood delivers another stellar crime thriller that keeps readers on edge from the first page to the last.
The tension in the book starts on the first page and doesn't finish until the last, holding the reader's attention throughout the entire story.
The book is fast paced, full of twists and turns, churning up emotions before a great conclusion.

Wow!
This starts out with a real bang!
Book 26 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series has Jenna at the end of her pregnancy while trying to solve the mysterious disappearance of teenagers heading to their Prom.
Talk about sick individuals…this story has got to be up there in the gasp out loud level.
It seems like Black Rock Falls is continuing to be a town that attracts killers. Are they ever going to catch a break????
I love catching up with Jenna, Kane, and their team. We didn’t see too much of their adopted son in this story.
Each book in the series is suspenseful and intriguing. And….each story is definitely CREEPY!
Where is the author going to take us next? Realistically speaking…..Black Rock Falls needs a break from all the murders going on!
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Absolutely amazing as usual. I have never read a bad D K Hood novel. Thrilling and keeps me on the edge of my seat. I can never put this author down, but never want it too end.

Another Kane and Alton book is like coming home. Each time I read one I tell myself I really need to get back to the beginning of this series and get more of their backstory, especially after reading the epilogue on this one.
I’ve been anxiously awaiting Jenna’s baby arriving. I love how dedicated she is to her job and how she’s balancing being very pregnant and tracking down the latest serial killer in Black Rock Falls. She has a great team around her. She’s able to mostly hold down the fort at the office while the men (no sexism there, they’re all just careful with her, and it’s her choice to stay behind) head out to do the leg work in this case.
I would never want to live in Black Rock Falls but it’s very easy to get lost in this world.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy of this book.

This book was intense from the very beginning! A limo full of teenagers goes missing on prom night, and what follows is a terrifying and emotional ride. Sheriff Jenna Alton, heavily pregnant, and her team must race against time to find the missing kids. The story quickly turns dark when the boys are found dead, and the girls are nowhere to be seen.
The suspense never lets up, and the danger feels real, especially with Jenna’s pregnancy adding extra tension. The scenes in the forest were chilling, and the killer’s twisted methods were truly disturbing. I also liked the connections to past cases, it made things even more gripping.
Even after 26 books, this series still surprises me. The characters feel familiar, and the story kept me turning pages. If you love dark crime thrillers with high stakes and strong female leads, this one is definitely worth reading!

This book needs a trigger warning. It was absolutely no holds barred brutally horrifying. This one starts with a terrifying, jaw dropping, soul crushing act.
From there the terror only gets worse. Literally heart pounding through out. As a mom this is literally my worst nightmare and this book did in fact give me nightmares. That being said… I adore these characters, the plot was superbly well written. Super fast paced, super scary and super suspenseful.
If you are a scary book lover like me then this one will be a great read for you!

This was dark and terrifying, and when you hear the title in the book being referenced, that was so bloody chilling!!
The entire premise is intense because as soon as the limo goes missing, people then turn up. Jenna is heavily pregnant, and you just feel like a clock is ticking. I think the scariest moment for me was Rowley walking down the street, and the ripples from the Quake started!!
I did feel that there was no urgency from the team when Raven and Emily were stuck up in the woods, and there was a sniper on the loose. I mean, normally, Wolf would go up the mountains no matter what, but it felt to me the team didn't try hard enough.
However, we are book 26 and we are still being surprised, and the clanger at the end of the book with Dave....I mean what the hell!!!!! I need to know the story NOW!! Plus, who doesn't love a reference to the Tarot card killer - I hope we have more of that soon!!
I listened to the audiobook in one go, as I needed to know how it would end, the reason behind it, and if everyone would make it out alive!!!!! Another great instalment to the series.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
ohhh man this one isnt for the faint hearted ... its a hard read right from the first chapter and i have to admit it triggered a few times for me so much so that i had to put it down and breathe deeply
when a limo full of teenagers going to their prom never makes it jenna and her team go looking for them....
what they find will haunt them for the rest of their lives.....
the boys in the limo are all dead
the girls are nowhere to be found
but when the first girl turns up dead mutilated and suffering a sexual assault with the message not mine carved into her jenna knows they have a really sick twisted psychopath on their hands
can they find the rest of the girls before its to late
be warned its not an easy read this one

Wow! This page-turner kept me up late. I couldn't put it down. Jenna and Kane are back with another dark case. It kept me on edge. All our favorite characters play an important roll in solving this one. And that ending. It made me cry. And I was shocked! The next one cannot come soon enough.

Another incredible read from the author, I don't know how she does it. Book 26 in the very popular Kane and Alton series, finds them investigating the case of a missing limousine, with 10 teenagers, heading to a school prom. As always, the characters are well developed and the tension oozes out from the pages. I really enjoy all the books by the author in this series, she never disappoints and I can highly recommend the whole series to lovers of the crime fiction genre. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

Another book in the series and another serial killer. And Jenna is getting closer and closer to her delivery date. It should have been a fun night at prom but it turned into a nightmare, starting with the limousine driver being killed. This story will have you on the edge of your seat between the horrors the girls are put through, the tremors in the mountains threatening a couple of the characters, and the lack of clues at the start of the investigation. You won't want to miss reading this book.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Another great crime thriller in the Kane and Alton series.
Jenna and Dave are called when a group of teenagers disappear after being driven in a limo to their Prom night.
When the bodies start to be found it seems they have a killer who is copying past crimes in Black Rock Falls.
Jenna is heavily pregnant but still manages to keep involved in the case, and is determined to find the killer before more lives are lost.
This is a gripping crime thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

Good Girls Don't Cry is one of the most stressful books in the Kane and Alton series by D.K. Hood. Sheriff Jenna Alton is 9 months pregnant and expecting her first child with Deputy David Kane. They have an adopted son, Tauri, who is their everything and he's looking forward to having a sibling. It's prom night in Black Creek Falls and 10 teenagers have gotten into a white limousine that their parents rented for them. There are 5 boys and 5 girls, including the prom queen and king. As they're on their way to the prom, the kids aren't paying any attention to the route. They're to busy celebrating and enjoying each other. One of the girls hears something and takes a peek through a crack. She sees the driver window covered with what looks like blood. When she gets her dates attention, he looks through a different crack and sees the dead body of their original driver. When they look out the windows they notice that they're far from town and headed away from the direction they should be going.
The limo is headed over rough terrain and the kids are bounced around in the back. They're in the woods and a limo is not meant to be driven on these rough roads. All of a sudden the limo comes to a stop and the driver gets out. He's wearing a mask and opens the back door. He tells the boys to get out of the limo and lay face down on the ground with their hands behind them. When one of the boys disagrees, the man shoots and kills him. The other kids are horrified and panicked now. The remaining boys get on the ground and the girls are given the task of zip tying their hands and feet. Then the boys get back into the limo as the girls lay face down and get zip tied the same way. The girls are walked to a van that is parked just ahead. Once inside they watch the driver start the limo, get out, hit the gas pedal, and lock the doors. The limo goes over the cliff into the river below. The boys have no chance of escaping with their hands and feet zip tied. The girls are screaming and so upset that their boyfriends are going to die.
As Jenna gets the call about the missing limo and the 10 kids she's on high alert calling on her team to come in early. They need to get a helicopter in the air, but the conditions won't allow it until daybreak. The parents called when their children never made it to prom and never came home. Who would want to terrorize and kill high school kids heading to prom? The bodies of the boys are discovered later, but there's no sign of the 5 girls. Where could they be? When divers are called in to bring up the bodies in the limo, they now know that this was no accident. The boys are zip tied and one has been shot. Jenna now knows that they have to move quickly or they could have 5 more dead teenagers on their hands. When hikers call in that they've seen a girl's body hanging in a tree, Jenna and her team react quickly. The girl is still wearing her prom dress and is dead. Another girl in her prom dress is discovered dead draped across a boulder. Both of these scenes are reenactments of a previous murder case Jenna worked.
Jenna and her team have 3 girls to save and get to work. They search the wooded area, look at the previous case, and try to find any clues as to where the girls might be. Will Jenna be able to find the girls before they are displayed? Will Jenna be safe looking for this killer? As Jenna goes with Dave out in the woods to crime scenes, will she give birth in a remote area? When one of her deputies is injured while investigating one of the crime scenes the case goes to a more dangerous level. This killer has skills that go beyond hurting teenagers and will be tough to find without ending up injured or dead. Good Girls Don't Cry will have your heart racing, as you worry about Jenna and the baby she's carrying, the missing girls, and the hunt for the killer. I rate Good Girls Don't Cry 5 stars as it is one of the best in the series so far! Good Girls Don't Cry is out on June 24 and should not be missed if you love a good thriller! I can't wait for the next Kane and Alton book, so I hope D.K. Hood is writing! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Good Girls Don't Cry in exchange for a fair review. #GoodGirlsDontCry

(4.5) Harrowing, gut-wrenching thriller. This one left me tossing and turning after I finished reading. The horror of what the boys went through and the girls. The reality that psychos exist in the real world not just in fiction. I am grateful for the few moments of goodness with Jenna and her pregnancy, moments with Raven and Emily. Love the K9's, having Carter on board and bringing in Theo and Jo remotely. It was like a family reunion dealing with tragedy and seeking the good. This was fast paced action that was intense. Thank you for the advanced copy. I freely share my honest thoughts and opinions. #GoodGirlsDon'tCry #KaneandAlton #D.K.Hood #Bookouture #NetGalley

Good Girls Don’t Cry

Kane and Alton must conquer a huge case that their entire regimen will need to handle. Alton is 9 months pregnant with the baby’s arrival expected any day. When ten students disappear on their way to the prom she must handle the case from the office, doling out assignments carefully. They are hunting down recent sex offenders to discover where they have been during the time of the students disappearance.
Good Girls Don’t Cry will be published on June 24, 2025 by Bookouture. I was able to read Hood’s latest novel via NetGalley. It is the first of her Kane and Alton series that I have read. Surprisingly I was able to follow the plot without reading prior books. Good Girls Don’t Cry was sad and frightening. One never knew what evil track the perpetrator would attempt next. It was excellent and great suspense. Whether a fan or first reader - do enjoy!

I bow at the altar of the Queen of Crime Fiction D.K. Hood!
This woman is a writing dynamo!
Every book surpasses the last.
I’ve ran out of adjectives to describe the gory and gruesome settings that keep me coming back for more.
There is one funny scene with Kane as he loses his demeanor when it’s go time!
I’ve become a huge fan of Rio and Rave.
I did think Emily was whiny and very unEmily like during a few scenes.

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Good Girls Don’t Cry’, book 26 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series written by D K Hood, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
A white limo is taking ten teenagers to their school prom and the alarm is raised when they fail to return home at the end of the evening. Hours later the missing limo is found in a river with the bodies of the five boys’ inside, but when the body of one of the five girls is found draped over a tree with the message ‘Not Mine’ left on her, Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane realise they have another serial killer on the loose in Black Rock Falls and all the signs that it’s a copycat killer.
Not satisfied with just one dead body at a time, Ms Hood has given us five in ‘Good Girls Don’t Cry’ and the promise of more to come! This is an incredibly exciting addition to the series that’s had my heart thumping, fingers twitching, and hands permanently glued to my Kindle. As well as the characters of Jenna, Kane and the amazing people who support them in the sheriff’s department, we’re now introduced to Raven who’s ex-military and a K9 trainer and a welcome addition to Black Rock Falls. I’ve been completely gripped from the first page to the last with the tension increasing until it’s impossible to stop reading. The plot is outstandingly and packed full of action, suspense and thrills, with the danger increasing the nearer I got to the end so that I couldn’t sleep until I’d reached the final page and the news of the latest addition to the Kane family. Fantastic! A huge five stars from me!

I love the Kane and Alton series and this episode did not disappoint. Very well written . Lots of backstory which is very much my cup of tea. Had me guessing the ultimate culprit until the very end which is a plus. Plenty of suspense throughout. Look forward to the next offering when they have baby Jackson to look after. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
