When a limo of 6 couples going to prom goes missing the call is made for on the sheriff’s office. Jenna and deputy Dave are shocked to find it in the river with all 6 boys dead. As they slowly discover girls bodies, it is clear someone is copycatting their previous cases. With Jenna heavily pregnant, the other deputies are called into investigate. Is there another serial killer in black rock falls?
I just love this series! The tension in this story was immense. I was scared at points that this was when we lost one of our main characters. The murders were described in gruesome detail and the fear the girls felt radiated from the (kindle) pages. This was really one I couldn’t put down. It was exciting but stressful at times and I really felt I was there with the team. The characters and the way they interact is very real. I’m now impatient to find out what happens next!
This could be read as standalone, but I highly recommend starting with book 1 and reading them all!

Mystery and intrigue… family and friends…secrets and red herrings…recipe for a good mystery novel. This talented author has written a page turner. Curl up in a comfy chair and try to solve this one. Warning though…this is a gruesome murder mystery. Thanks Netgalley

D.K. Hood’s "Good Girls Don’t Cry" is a chilling, pulse-pounding thriller that immediately grips and refuses to let go. As the 26th installment in the "Detectives Kane and Alton" series, it delivers a masterful blend of psychological tension, procedural precision, and emotional depth.
The novel opens with a haunting scene: Madison, dressed in a pink tulle prom dress, flees into the wilderness, pursued by an unseen menace. Meanwhile, Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane face their worst nightmare—a limousine carrying ten teenagers has vanished into the dark forests of Black Rock Falls. Shortly thereafter the bodies of the young men are found, but the teenage girls have disappeared.
Hood’s storytelling is razor-sharp, balancing relentless suspense with deeply human moments. Jenna and Kane’s investigation is methodical yet emotionally charged, as they race against time to uncover the truth behind the gruesome murders.
"Good Girls Don’t Cry" creates a compelling portrayal of fear and resilience.
Hood immerses the reader in the raw terror of the victims, the desperation of their families, and the unwavering determination of those seeking justice.
Hood’s ability to weave intricate crime narratives while maintaining emotional depth is what makes her one of the most compelling voices in thriller fiction today.
A must-read for fans of mysteries and police procedurals.

We are back in Black Rock Falls, serial capital central. A limo full of teenagers on the way to the prom disappears. As the bodies pile up there is a rush to find clues before the next body. This book is full of suspense and action from the first page. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

5 Stars – A Gripping, Emotional, and Unforgettable Read
Good Girls Don’t Cry is one of the most emotionally intense entries in the Kane and Alton series, and D.K. Hood delivers once again with a masterfully crafted thriller that grips your heart from the first page to the last. As a reader, it’s impossible not to be deeply affected by the horror of the crimes—this time, the victims are innocent teenagers, making the stakes feel even more heartbreaking and real.
The suspense is relentless, and the fear is palpable as Jenna and Dave race against time to uncover the truth behind a missing prom limousine and a killer who is disturbingly methodical. Hood’s ability to weave a chilling mystery while respecting the emotional gravity of the victims is what sets this series apart. The scenes in the forest are haunting, and the parallels to a past case add a powerful layer of psychological tension.
But amid the darkness, there is light—and that’s what makes this story truly special. The evolving relationship between Jenna and Dave brings moments of warmth and hope. Seeing their bond deepen and their growing family brings an emotional balance to the grim case they’re investigating. It's a reminder that even in the face of unimaginable evil, love and resilience endure.
This book is not just a crime thriller—it’s an emotional journey that will leave you breathless, shaken, but ultimately uplifted. Absolutely deserving of 5 stars.
Thanks to Ms Hood, NetGalley, and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I could not put this book down! Tense, scary, breath-holding scenes kept me riveted to the pages! Sheriff Jenna and Deputy Kane rely on their team members to help them figure out the latest serial killer in Black Rock Falls. As they sift through the smallest amount of evidence, it is a race against time to solve the mystery and bring home the missing teens.

Ten teenagers go missing on their way to the prom in a Limo.
Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy Dave Kane discover bodies. Not all the teenagers have been found.
Gosh! Talk about a roller coaster ride of gruesome deaths and frantic searching! I could not put this book down. My favourite duo and their crack team, they do a good job of searching for clues and links to other murders.
My most unfavourite character, I must say, is Emily. I find her prickliness a little too much, and she wasn't at all grateful that her life was saved! I wish she would soften up a little. Yes, be independent, but not come across as a spoiled ingrate!
Looking forward to the next instalment. I highly recommend.
4.5 stars out of 5 from me.
