ARC Review: A Conflict of Interest by Morgan Adams
DNF at 48% (my very first DNF)
Writing Style
The prose is quite simple and direct; while this makes the story easy to follow, it may not offer the narrative depth or immersive quality some readers seek. The writing leans toward a more explanatory style, focusing on telling rather than showing. For example:
"She works Sunday to Thursday, which meant she would have Friday off to spend with family, which made her happy."
Much of the narrative presents actions and emotions in a straightforward manner, resulting in a style that feels more matter-of-fact than evocative. Readers who enjoy rich, descriptive storytelling may find this approach less engaging.
Characterization and Chemistry
The dynamic between the love interests feels understated, with their interactions coming across as somewhat restrained. The story maintains a gentle, calm tone but, for me, lacked the spark or emotional depth that often drives romance narratives. Character development is subtle, and while this may appeal to fans of low-drama stories, I found it challenging to connect with the cast or feel invested in their journey.
Overall Impression
Although A Conflict of Interest did not fully capture my interest, there are elements that could appeal to other readers. The structure is clear and accessible, and the plot moves at a steady, uncomplicated pace. The focus on family and work-life balance is a welcome theme, and the premise holds promise. While the story didn’t resonate with me personally, I can see it working for readers who appreciate straightforward writing and are looking for a gentle sapphic romance with a slice-of-life feel. If you’re new to the genre or prefer a more direct narrative style, this book may be a good fit.

What a lovely story! I really enjoyed reading this street. I love a story where the attraction is palpable between the characters and oh the yearning! So much yearning. This book had it all, romance, a strong plot, supportive family and a happy ending. It was well written and i would definitely read more from this author.

Surprisingly this book felt a bit too steamy for me, like I was intruding on something very private--and I have read a lot more "spicy" books.

Pretty typical story where the two main characters casually meet and have a one-night stand, completely unaware they'll have to cross paths again later in a professional setting—in this case, as a lawyer and a witness.
Dr. Rachel Cohen is going to have to testify in a medical malpractice case. The plaintiff's attorney is Ana Mendez. Ana, a lawyer hoping this medical case will propel her to a promotion at her firm, will face some existential doubts. She doesn't want to harm Rachel, but she also doesn't want to jeopardize her professional aspirations. Rachel, for her part, also has doubts about what she should testify to and whether she can trust Ana.
Without being overly dramatic or extreme, the story unfolds gradually as the two women confront their doubts and conflicts. It was an entertaining read that I really enjoyed.

Wasn't aware there's a first book in this series but its a standalone story line and doesn't hinder any enjoyment. It was a quick read, the chemistry between two MCs was off-the-chart, the tension and mystery for the case involved with the doc had me flipping through the book, wanting to learn the details, however I thought it was kind of anti-climactic with the last scene and abit over?. It was enjoyable read nevertheless and now I want to read the first book.

This book did not disappoint! A very enjoyable read that had me hooked from the very beginning. I really loved the short chapters because it had me saying "okay one more chapter" until it was 4 am and I had realized that I finished the book 😅.
I’m a sucker for a good forbidden romance. The riskier the better! I just want to start off by saying the chemistry between these two is off the charts. This novel was filled with plenty of angst, flirty banter and moments that made me laugh out loud. Two powerful and extremely attractive women that couldn’t be any more different if they tried. Ana is loud and confident while Rachel is more quiet and calculated. They really complimented each other well and had no problem taking turns being the bold/dominant one when needed. And while both are very career driven and focused on their own personal goals, we got to witness them slow down and take a step back so they could figure out what really matters in life.
I overall pace of their relationship was refreshing and didn’t feel rushed. After the initial meeting I loved how slow things were and how they took their time getting to know each other. I really enjoyed all of the texts and playful banter between them, I thought that it added a nice touch to their relationship.
We really got to see the good, the bad and the slightly ugly moments between the two of them. If was no doubt that they had immediate chemistry, it was just a matter of how are they going to navigate this new relationship whine the case is ongoing. I think they did a pretty good job and keeping it hush hush in order to make things work. It was interesting seeing both perspectives and how the case impacted both of them directly. I found myself rooting for Ana to win the case so she could get the promotion she so desperately wanted, but at the same time I felt terrible for Rachel and was wanting it to just be over with (all while wanting to know her secret about what actually happened that day 👀 ). I was worried the case would feel overwhelming and played out, but Morgan did a great job at making sure that wasn’t the case. It added just the right amount of tension and drama without it being an impossible challenge that Ana and Rachel couldn’t overcome. I was seriously rooting for both of them the entire time and I’m so glad they got their happy ending!
I seriously couldn’t recommend this book enough and I’m so thankful I was given the opportunity to read an advanced copy! I’m so sad that Ana and Rachel’s story has come to an end, butttt I’m crossing my fingers that we get a third novel about Stella and Charlotte 👀

I loved this book so much! I might be a little biased because I loved the first one so much and I’ve been dying for Ana to get happy ending ever since, but it was definitely a good book all around.
Ana and Rachel were absolutely perfect for each other. They have the kind of opposing personalities that fit together like a puzzle. Where Rachel was a little more reserved and polished, Ana was more outgoing and messy. They didn’t clash, they completed each other. I’m not going to lie, love that they’re a doctor and a lawyer because they’re giving sapphic power couple.
I also loved all of the supportive family members and best friends in this book. Stella and Charlotte were super cute and I hope we get to see them again in a later book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for an opposites attract, doctor/lawyer romance. This is the second book that I’ve read from Morgan and it seems like she doesn’t miss. Thanks so much to Bold Strokes Books and Morgan Adams for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

"A Conflict of Interest" by Morgan Adams is a sharp, sexy sapphic legal romance that had me hooked from the first deposition to the final verdict. Ana and Rachel’s chemistry sizzles from their steamy meet-cute to the high-stakes courtroom drama, all while navigating ambition, trust, and ethical gray areas.
I loved watching Ana come into her own—no longer the overlooked associate but a force to be reckoned with—and Rachel’s vulnerability gave the story real emotional weight. My only complaint was how quickly the story was resolved -- it felt like "The End" was tacked on 3 chapters too early -- BUT the tension (romantic and otherwise) kept the pages turning throughout. Think: The Good Wife meets The Kiss Quotient, with a gavel drop of queer yearning.

Really enjoyable. Sweet, sexy, and hot. And at least one hot lawyer in skirts (yum). A Conflict of Interest is very close to being as good as its sister book in this series, also set in the same law firm, Bryon and Browning in NYC.
The MC this time is the delectable Ana Mendez, who we met in View from the Top (aka book 1) and who, I always thought, got a bit of a raw deal. So I was doubly pleased to see her get her story this time around. And she’s super-hot, I think you’ll agree. Certainly Dr. Rachel Cohen does, despite being the conflict of interest of the title. But attraction and sparks cannot be denied as the two women go from enemies to lovers, via plenty of false assumptions about each other and thus discovery of the real woman inside, revealing both to be people we’d all like to hang out with, I suspect.
Happily, I enjoyed spending time with them across every page.
Not too long, not too demanding, and pays back in spades. Morgan Adams is definitely one to watch.
Thanks to the author and publisher, BSB, and to NetGalley for the chance to be, not *deposed*, but very *disposed* towards this ARC, especially as I’d somehow missed it and requested it late.

Conflict of Interests by Morgan Adams is a smart, sizzling, and emotionally layered romance that dives into the high-stakes world of law and medicine, where ambition, vulnerability, and unexpected passion collide. Ana Mendez, a driven senior associate at a law firm, is determined to prove her worth through a major medical malpractice case that could finally get her the recognition she craves. Across the courtroom aisle stands Rachel Cohen, a respected cardiac surgeon blindsided by a lawsuit—and even more so by the revelation that the gorgeous woman she just had a one-night stand with is now her opposing counsel.
This is a captivating enemies-to-lovers story with high emotional stakes that delivers both heat and heart.

Boy, oh boy, this book was perfect.
From the depth of the characters to the way their love story played out, I absolutely loved it. I felt the tension of their situation from the very start and loved their HEA. The way each character’s culture was lovingly written about helped to further develop who they were as people and the way they were written was brilliant.
The conflict had just the right amount of angst for me and kept me hooked throughout the entire read.
Can’t wait to read more of Morgan Adams’s work!

Cardiac surgeon Rachel Cohen is doing what she always knew she wanted to do. Her family lived close by so when she wanted or needed her family, there they were. After working most of the night operating on people who arrived hurt and scared she was more than ready for a nice cold drink. It’s There she meets the drop-dead- gorgeous woman and since it’s been a while since she’d taken some play time for herself.
Ana Mendez has been trying to get herself noticed so maybe, just maybe when there is a promotion coming around her office. Ana’s family lived in the locality and like Rachel she found herself trying to make time for them but right now she hardly has time to think, getting ready for the trial that Ana felt she had to win.
Ana is looking for some fun and when she goes to the same bar, who should meet is one of the sexiest women Ana has seen. Since the attraction is kind of off the charts they both decide to add, hopefully, a lot of sex to their evening, That is how it all starts. Very nice read.

A very enjoyable and engaging story. The medical and legal aspects of this story was very fascinating. I never get tired of reading romances that are about those troupes. The romance between the main characters was very sweet with not A lot of drama or angst. Sometimes I prefer A story with less drama and angst. I like when characters in A story can be reasonable and work out their problems without all the drama. Ana and Rachel are those characters. There's A few witty moments in this book that made me smile and laugh out loud A few times throughout this story. The supporting characters were written well and helped to make this an even better reading experience. I will definitely be on the lookout for more books by this author.

Ana Mendez is of Cuban descent growing up in Florida. Now she is a senior associate at a NYC law firm. A new position is opening up that she has earned and her current Mal-practice case may be her way to be sure she gets the spot. Rachel Cohen is a successful cardiac surgeon. She is Jewish and loves her family and culture. As happens in stories Ana and Rachel hook up after meeting in a NYC bar. They know nothing about each other beyond first names. Ana is stunned when she realizes Rachel is the last deposition she needs to interview for her big case.
I love that these two can’t get over their attraction but they slow things down. They spend time texting and with phone calls learning about each other. There is time for dates while the tension builds between them. I felt I got to know both very well over the course of the story. I am currently on vacation, in a condo, in the Rocky Mountains and couldn’t venture out to enjoy the beauty until I finished this book. The only thing that was disappointing was how simply the big conflict gets resolved. But I love how the story ends. It was very enjoyable. (4.5 Stars)

This book was easy to read, with short chapters that made me read one after another. I liked both characters, their chemistry, and all the scenes that put them on the same path together. I was rooting for them and found them cute together. I also liked their respective families, especially Rachel's. There were just some details that were off to me. I wish the scene where they meet was longer, showing how easily and strongly their connection was different from the start. We barely saw them that first night. Regarding the case, I was logically thinking: why would they procrastinate Rachel's hearing when it's the thing preventing them from going further? I was like, "Just get it on with it and be professional!" They just got together and put their heads in the sand.Sure, it adds tension, but for a big-shot and ambitious lawyer, it felt out of character. The career change at the end was a bit abrupt and could have been more built up. But I get it; it's the mid-length format that always frustrates me a bit.
Overall, it was a sweet story with a balanced dose of tension.

I received an advanced copy from NetGalley.
Ana, a lawyer from a Manhattan law firm. Rachel, the heart doctor she is subpoenaing. After a chance meeting on a bar that led to more, Ana and Rachel are shocked when they find themselves face-to-face in court. Faced witha conflict of interests, growing attraction and meddling religious mothers, how will these two navigate what could be the best thing that has happened to them?
With great characters that you can easily connect to, an interesting narrative and enough romance to make you swoon, this book will keep you reading will you cheer for Ana and Rachel to find their happy ending. A great story!

Two women meet, connect, have a one night stand and leave. They later meet again to find they are on opposite sides of a lawsuit. Ana is a lawyer and Rachel a witness. They shouldn't fraternise, but it so hard not to. Plus Rachel knows something Ana doesn't. What is she to do? An entertaining read to find out.

I read Morgan Adam's other book, View From The Top, is became (unexpectedly) a FAVORITE of mine, so I've been incredibly excited to read this book as soon as I could. Let me tell you it did not disappoint. I will admit, I connected and was drawn into View From The Top quicker, but there are so many layers and details to A Conflict of Interest, I found myself just as invested in Ana and Rachel.
I expected going into this story being more drawn to Ana, but was instantly drawn to Rachel. She has a belief and vibe that I loved. She's unapologetic and I really was smiling whenever I was reading her POV. As a Jew myself, I loved having such a Jewish character as well. I did feel the oy veys and the Yiddush was a little much at times, but I appreciated the representation. Then you add in Golden Girls references, the Sim too and I was hooked.
The spice is fantastic, the references, the cultures, banter, etc. I'm SO glad I read this book and will continue to read Morgan Adams at any chance I get.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A Conflict of Interest is like a Hallmark movie, if Hallmark movies were explicitly sapphic. A great surface level story if you are bored and do not want to commit to something heavy or emotionally charged. If you are into spice, this book is definitely for you. However, I would say that the spice scenes in this book greatly overshadow the actual plot. Now don't get me wrong, the writing is still good, and if you want a quick read with a little bit of an extra kick, this will definitely get you there, but if you are looking for something with a deeper plot/storyline, this is not the book for you.

From the moment Ana and Rachel meet their chemistry is off the wall but their path to romance has a shadow cast over it due to Ana’s work as a lawyer and something Rachel witnessed as a resident.
The story is funny, heartwarming with a tiny bit of angst and some HOT scenes.
Charlotte and Stella are great support characters and maybe they’ll show up in a story of their own - who knows.
This is the first book I have read by this author and really enjoyed it.
Thanks to Bold Stokes Books and NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to read it and provide an honest review.
