“I love you, Lys. I never stopped.” – Dan Molina

Let it be known, I love military romance. And second-chance romance is not as bad as I thought once, but I still hesitate any time a book of such a case falls into my hands. That being said, this one was a real good combination of the two, and quite balanced, although it did make me want to throttle the heroine once or twice while reading (not out of hate, mind you).

Dan Molina is a former pararescueman working for Steele. We saw him in the first book, cracking jokes and kicking ass like nobody’s business. But this seemingly fine man has a broken heart – and when he stumbles upon the woman who broke it in one of his missions, things get emotionally heavy on top of dangerous real quick. Can he convince Alexa Alyssandratos that she’s safer by his side, and make sure they can get back together?

Honestly, my heart went out to Dan almost instantly. The guy was so in love with Alexa, he would do anything for her. He showed understanding when he finally found out what went wrong between them, and he was 100% behind her and her crazy plans – not to mention her bleeding heart for everything alive around her.

Alexa, too, was a nice female lead. I wanted to yell at her for dragging Dan around and all this emotional grief she subjected him to, but I couldn’t, because I get why she did it all. I can’t say I would do the same, but it’s understandable and it broke my heart to see why she was so intent on punishing herself. Thankfully, she came around – even if they both struggled until then.

This book was a worthy successor of the previous one, and I can’t wait to start reviewing the next in the series. The pace and the hotness – not to mention the suspense and action-packed plot, full of twists and emotional roller coasters – were enough to keep me at the edge of my seat. The Steele men are surely a team to put your trust as a reader in.

“I’ve been carrying you next to my heart for three years, Dan, but really, you’ve been inside my heart the whole time.” – Alexa Alyssandratos
