3.5 stars to be specific.
One of my favourite atmospheric settings is somewhere rainy on the coast or on an island. Additionally this is the 1960's which means no modern technology, the isolation is intense and that makes for the best horror in my opinion.
Something that I also loved was that they would have lunches packed in an old margarine tub and a thermos of tea, for some reason this just made me so happy, I guess it made me think of my own childhood.
It's very slow going, I feel like it could have been shortened down a bit more. The romance aspect is nice but it's not the main plot so I feel like there is too much focus on it. It doesn't help that I don't particularly think Marta is a good person deserving of Elsie.
I enjoyed the journal entries, that was the spookiest part.
Overall a good book that I enjoyed.
