This is one amazing book that is for everyone to read, it is not age restricted. I have had very little interaction with autistic people and had not realised the impact of so any things that are said that can be so confusing and need help for them to understand. Adults take our approximations as normal but for the autistic person where precision is uppermost this is very confusing.
I loved the fact that this was written so that a child could understand the short stories but that notes to adults following detail how to help more with very clear explanations. I must compliment the artist as the drawings showed clearly the child not understanding what was being said or what they were expected to say or do. Life can be confusing enough without having to add autism into the equation.
I would like to see this book as a necessary one for all schools to ensure that children read and have discussions about as autism is often a non visible disability that unless you know someone who suffers from this then it means nothing to you.

I've worked with autistic people of every age, and they can feel frustrated trying to communicate, while I see their loved ones experiencing the same kinds of frustration. This book is an excellent resource that is easy to understand that explains how our expectations lead to those problems, and how to deal with it. I highly recommend this to everyone, even if you don't have someone close who is autistic, because it shows that we are trying to communicate with each other but just need more understanding.

An excellent child centred book to explore some of the odd conversations people can have. Although this is aimed at a market for those with autism, this is a useful learning point for younger children and helps to explain some key social dynamics. Sarcasm, is a particularly helpful chapter for parents and children. The guidance notes for how parents can use this and more reading is very useful for additional learning. Normalising some of the trickier conversations and giving lots of examples throughout is helpful.

A collection of social stories that support children with autism and help them understand some situations better.
Also, it will help the neurotypical loved ones to understand the children’s point of view.
Well-thought, written and designed.

I was expecting something different with this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. It comes with 7 stories, and most have been identified as areas very difficult for kids on the spectrum. I found the stories unique and fun, even the one with the dog. I think this would be a great book to read to a class of students. Class discussion can focus on the content of the story and can be beneficial to many students, not just those on the spectrum.
I also found the discussion page after each story a nice stepping stone to further the conversation.
All and all this is a nice little book with some great black and white art.

A very good book to use as a guide to support those with autism. A lot of phrases can be confusing to interpret if you’re comfortable with language being more literal. The stories offer stepping stones to approaches that can be used to guide understanding of phrases used by many. A supportive and child friendly approach!

As an Autistic Mama of two kids with Autism, and a baby showing signs but is too young for diagnosis, this is the book I wish I had growing up. Excited to purchase this for my daughter when her reading level has developed a bit more. An incredibly compassionate guide that both gives useful allegories for Autistic kiddos to help them navigate the world, and provides helpful tips for parents to help them provide their children the skills they need to thrive in the world. I adored this book, and how it was told in an age appropriate way. I can’t wait for all of my kids to read it!
