I thought this book was fine, but I wish there was a resource guide for all of the 10 minute practices with examples.

I was really hopeful for this book and I think it had great concepts, but was too much for one book especially if it’s someone’s first read on this topic. Or there should’ve been an opening statement to only pick 1 or 2 new things to implement instead of the entire book. There were no less than 10 journals mentioned to keep as well as guides/lists to make and would likely overwhelm someone wanting to make simple and easy implementations.

Overall a lot of good tips, a lot of repetitive items.
Over the years have heard many of theses tips from family, friends, coworkers or therapy.

This was decent overall, except for the fact that the author kept referencing worksheets to use throughout the book but provides no links or copies of the worksheets so I feel that I missed a lot of material.

Why This Book
I chose this book because I’m planning a training where one of the topics is burnout, and I want participants to leave feeling more empowered and equipped with practical tools—especially since many of them are frontliners.

Impression
Overall, I really appreciate the tone and the structure of this book. It’s a solid resource for anyone looking to better understand burnout and take small, meaningful steps toward a healthier balance.

Book Structure and Flow
What stood out to me immediately is how the book is structured: it flows really well, moving step by step from Understanding burnout and its impact (section 1) to Creating a life of fulfilment and balance (section 8). Each section builds on the one before, covering regular self-care, balance, and daily life, all while aiming for sustainable change.

Language and Tone
The language is very friendly, which I always appreciate with books that cover topics of specialisation and science, which can often come across as too clinical or heavy. This book manages to be accessible to a broad audience, not just those with a professional background. It’s not presented as self-help in the typical sense, but rather as practical steps for self-care.

Use of Analogies
One thing I really enjoyed were the analogies sprinkled throughout the book (like using a phone, a cake, or even sauce) to explain concepts linked to burnout and well-being. They were fun, practical, and made the material stick.

Format and Tools
That said, I do wish there was a slight change to the format. Maybe some more colour or visual elements to break things up.
Also, it took me a minute to realise that when the author mentions techniques and worksheets, they’re not actually included as annexes but are more like suggestions to try. I kept searching for them until I realised what was going on. I wish that was made clearer from the start.
That said, I also wish some tools had examples, even if they were blank templates, that there was a bit more flexibility for people with different styles or those who might feel really overwhelmed and not have strong support systems.

Addressing perfectionism, boundaries, and work-life balance demonstrates understanding of burnout's multifaceted nature.

A lovely little guide on how to slow down and unplug to be your best self. Used truly inspirational references of people and businesses such as Malala Youszafi and Greta Thunberg, and Habitat for Humanity, instead of hollow role models who say one thing and act a different way, but people with true integrity, which I admired. Has great suggestions/ideas for how to avoid burnout, with detailed instructions on how to implement them. It did seem to repeat itself a little, and did appear to be a bit similar to another NetGalley self improvement book I read recently, but otherwise was well researched and really enjoyed it.

An excellent read that helps people to avoid burnout by useful techniques. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for giving me a copy of the book.
