DI RIDPATH...
I like this detective, he doesn't bow down to his superiors and he gets the job done, Ridpath works for the police and the coroners office investigating.. A member of the team seems to be going rogue, who?? Someone is out for revenge, an online personal is attacking a certain 3 individuals but why? It's up to Ridpath and his new DC Megan to fill in the gaps and solve the case.. I really like this series, highly recommend

What the Dark Whispers is the 11th book in the DI Ridpath series but I read it having not read any of the others, due to the good background given at the beginning of the book you can easily read it as a standalone novel. I really enjoyed the characters in this book and felt like I got to know them well, it was nice to have a little side story involving Ridpath's daughter Eve. I felt the book was a little slow to get going, but once it did it was fast paced and I couldn't put it down. The story is clever, intricate, evil and gripping. There is lot's of action and tension throughout, it was good to get to know the bad guy's backstory and understand why he was doing what he was while Ridpath was chasing him down. The story does jump forward a bit at the end which I didn't really like as it felt a bit disjointed. I will go back and read some of the previous books while looking forward to a sequel.

Thank you to NetGalley, Canelo and M.J. Lee for the ARC.

The eleventh book in this excellent series featuring DI Thomas Ridpath. A cleverly plotted story with lots of edge of the seat stuff. The story started off slowly for me but once the investigation progressed it was a thrilling read. Great characters and a very entertaining read.

I was given an advance copy by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I went into this book unaware that it was part of an existing series, but fortunately, it provides enough context to follow the story without having read the earlier installments. The central mystery was engaging, and I found myself hooked as I tried to piece together how the various murders were connected. The action scenes were well-paced and added a strong sense of urgency. However, just as the suspense hit its peak—particularly during the pursuit of the antagonist—the narrative abruptly jumped forward by several weeks, which disrupted the momentum and left the climax feeling underdeveloped. Overall, while the book had its strengths and kept me entertained, the uneven pacing and sudden time shift pulled me out of the experience. A solid read, but not without its flaws.

In a quiet Manchester suburb, a man sets himself on fire in a petrol station. Nearby, a fourteen-year-old girl murders her mother in cold blood. At the Coroner's Officer, Detective Inspector Ridpath is called in to investigate both of these baffling deaths. Is one a suicide and and the other an unexplained murder? Or does something more sinister link the two seemingly unconnected tragedies?! As Ridpath delves deeper, he must confront the darkness lurking in the most unexpected places, where even innocent facades can hide the darkest of truths. Can he prevent more deaths?! Wow fantastic suspenseful crime thriller!! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one! It had chilling suspense, mystery, gruesome murders, intriguing, action, gaslighting, and some wild twists and turns! The story was very interesting! I highly recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

With many thanks to Netgalley for this free arc and I am leaving this unbiased review voluntarily
The 11th book in this high end series and it was a cracker. The plot is brilliant and keeps you on the edge of your seat as the ever likeable Ridpath tries to work out if all his cases are connected. Nice addition with his new DC Megan so hopefully she will be returning. His lovely daughter Eve has her own demons to battle and makes for a very good subplot alongside the main story. The pace at times is frantic, the writing as always is on point and once again MJ Lee serves up another masterpiece. A series I will never tire of and this one is getting all the stars

You don’t need to read the previous books before diving into this one as it provides enough background to understand past books.
Throughout the book I was hooked! wondering how all the murders were connected. The action keeps you engaged but just when the tension peaks with chasing the bad guy and keeping you on the edge of your seat. The story abruptly jumps forward weeks later.
A heads up: a dog gets hurt in this book so avoid it if that would be distressing.

What the Dark Whispers by M J Lee is book 11 in the DI Ridpath series. It is published on 3 July. Thank you to Canelo Publishers and Netgalley for the advance copy to read and review. DI Ridpath works for both the Coroner’s Office and the Major Investigation Team in Manchester. He is often pulled in both directions, but this time he is working for the MIT and investigating a couple of cases. He attends the scene of a horrific incident at a petrol station on his way home. It looks like it is suicide. Why did the victim have to die? Evil is in the mix, but it is not straightforward. Ridpath is such an easy character to like. He is an interesting character, with all his history. He is also a single father and Eve, his daughter, is really struggling with life, after being involved in a traumatic event previously. All this certainly adds interest to the story, which is gripping and evil, and I was drawn in very quickly, unable to put the book down.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #Canelo Crime for my copy of What the Dark Whispers by MJ Lee
A man kills himself in a busy petrol station in full view of everyone. It’s a suicide!
Everyone accepts it and moves on, not Ridpath, it doesn’t make sense and until it does he will investigate.
Ridpath is a Policeman and the Manchester Coroners Officer, working between the two to ensure the dead are heard.
I can’t believe this is book 11 in the series.
This one is the best so far, with the tension turning with every page.
Will Ridpath find the reason or will more people die?
This book can be read as a stand-alone but I would advise anyone to read the full series, you’ll get so much from it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
