Dicker really knows how to write. This is not the normal thriller that goes for the most twists. This is literature with thriller elements. The plot is a slow-burn and you need to dive into the book to get something out of it. But it's really good, I promise!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this free eARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

This book confirms beyond doubt that Joel Dicker is one of my favourite authors.

No-one can write a multi-layered, multiple timeframe novel like Dicker. Although undoubtedly thrilling, his novels, for me, are somewhat slow burns rather than all out action but the way he can bring a complex story to bear in such a manner is beyond any comparisons.

Loved this one

Bizarre, brilliant, and utterly compulsive 🦊📚

This book is wild in every sense. Twisty, unpredictable, and just the right side of bizarre! I couldn’t look away, even when I had no idea where it was taking me. Joel Dicker weaves a story that’s part mystery, part drama, and part “what on earth did I just read?”… in the best possible way.

The characters are bold, the atmosphere crackles, and those twists? Oh, they just keep coming. Not quite perfect, but still a cracking read that had me racing to the end.

Joël Dicker is a real sneaky bugger; as sneaky as the characters he is so good at crafting. This book was a great example of his million mile an hour capers and soaring plot lines; I really enjoyed!

This is a really deft thriller. I started reading a few pages, expecting it to be just that, only to find myself a good few chapters in unable to stop. A woman, Sophie approaches her 40th birthday, her life and the lives of those around her, overlaps with an armed robbery. The book weaves between characters and timelines. It builds its story, whilst constantly challenging what you think you know. I usually have to like at least one character and I can't say that was the case for anyone here, but it didn't matter a jot as the perspective changes so quickly and constantly. I loved the exploration of the dangers of putting anyone on a pedestal- those closest to us, as well as people we admire from afar.
