This cosy mystery is an engaging read.

I was hooked from the first page and really enjoyed my reading time. I love a locked room mystery and this is a tale that is gripping and fascinating.

It is a ghost story with a difference and one that I would love to see as a tv drama. It's fun, unusual and very mysterious.

The characters and the plot is well-written and it really is a satisfying story.

Retired Police officer Midge has not had a happy life. She never fitted into the police force and spent most of her service running the evidence locker. Her wife, Bridie has terminal cancer and her retirement present leaves a lot to be desired: a weekend away in a haunted house ghost hunting. But Bridie encourages Midge to go along to strengthen her social skills and so she agrees to go. A mysterious haunting leaves the guests unsettled and, when people start to die, Midge starts to investigate. This has all the ingredients of a Christmas closed circle murder mystery. Not only are the guests snowed in, but they are in the middle of an army firing range, making escape impossible. I enjoyed the story. Although it was pretty far-fetched in places, there were several good clues to the solution and I think it would make a cosy Christmas read.

Recently retired detective Midge McGowan is gifted a haunted house tour. Just what she didn’t want, and though her wife Bridie encourages the wee holiday, Midge, rightfully as it turns out, isn’t so sure. She’s to spend the weekend with a group of unknowns – this is giving Agatha Christie’s Nemesis vibes – but when the snow starts and they’re trapped in this big house, things get even more upsetting. Think murder in a grisly manner, speculation about spirits and the home’s history which is a bit gory. Midge, never one to be praised for her abilities, wonders who is responsible… will she find out? I am cheerleading for Midge to make a reappearance in another book – she’s a character who is very difficult not to like.

The retirement gift for Midge, a recently retired police detective, is a haunted house weekend tour, the last thing she’d ever want to do. Persuaded by her partner that she’ll enjoy it, she joins the tour bus and its passengers with their quirks and hidden agendas, off to the country house. And then, a ghost, a suicide, a murder? What’s the real story? An enjoyable story with a bit of humour, thought it occasionally dragged due some repetition of parts of the storyline. I’m wondering is the author is going to give us more stories of Midge’s investigative skills – I’d certainly read another one. My thanks to Net Galley and the author for an ARC.

Ah Midge, the slightly grumpy older lady I didn't know I needed in my life... and now I know, I think I need more.
I went from feeling sorry for long suffering Bridie, to switching my sympathies to Midge, who really, was just coping her way through life.
Sure there was a murder, a ghost, a bus full of characters, but there's only one star of this show
Really very enjoyable.
More please.
