I really enjoyed this latest book from KL Slater and have read a few others of her. It’s interesting as there are a lot of competitions around that where you can win an amazing house and I’m sure many people dream of that. This digs into the deeper underlying issues people may have when thrown into that situation and the spotlight. It’s a really good read. I don’t think it’s one of her best, but it’s still really enjoyable and I will definitely look out for the next novel.

I really liked the idea of this book. winning your dream house sounded amazing, but of course it all goes wrong pretty quickly. It was a fast read and definitely kept me guessing. Some of the characters annoyed me a bit, but overall it was entertaining and I wanted to see how it all played out. A solid thriller!

Dev buys a single ticket to win a luxury home for Merri's birthday and she wins, but are they lucky!!
Thought this was a great thriller and believable characters with lots of twists and turns

Another hit for KL Slater.
As always her books are just so easy to read and within the first chapter I was totally absorbed by every character and the plot just drew me in.
The story of Merri and Dev is everything everyone dreams of so it was a great hook to reel you in. Trying to hide her past and enter her new chapter Merri is brought slap bang in the middle of a nightmare due to the press coverage of her windfall.
I really enjoyed and will always read her next book.

We’ve seen the adverts on television enticing us to purchase a ticket for the chance to win a dream house in an idyllic landscape. When Dev purchases such a ticket as an anniversary gift for his wife he does so with no thought of actually winning but fate has a fickle way of interfering in lives and to their surprise Dev and Merri do win the dream house in the Lake District however, as they discover, to their cost, that all is not as it seems in this dream paradise.
The author has done a great job of exploring the pitfalls of moving into a property which doesn’t feel remotely like home and with a local community who are both resentful and suspicious of Ben and Merri’s good fortune. All credit to Dev and Merri they really do try to settle in but with secrets from Merri’s past threatening to spill into her new life there is a deep sense of unease which gains momentum as this complex story moves forward. The author has done a great job of building up the tension and introducing characters who are intent on their own agenda. I enjoyed the sections which explained Merri’s backstory which added a different dynamic to what is an effective psychological thriller

I often turn to K.L. Slater’s books when I’m in a reading slump so I was really chuffed to receive an ARC of this one! Overall I did enjoy it although I found the first half quite slow with not much really happening. The second half more than made up for it though; full of suspense, twists & that unputdownable quality you always get with K.L. Slater. I really liked the concept too & thought the plot felt very fresh and fitting for 2025.
★★★½ (rounded up)

As a long-time reader of K.L. Slater, I've yet to be let down by one of her thrillers and this one was no exception.
The plot focuses on Merri and Dev, a couple struggling to make ends meet in their rented semi in Nottingham. A lottery ticket changes everything, landing them their dream house and a huge bank balance. They quit their jobs and move into their new home but soon find that their luck may have run out. As things start to go wrong, they are forced to wonder how lucky they really are.
With well-developed characters (some more likeable than others!), short, punchy chapters and plenty of tension, this is a great thriller that had me hooked from start to finish. I highly recommend it.
Many thanks to the author, Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of this great thriller.

I’ve been tempted many times by the glamorous pictures of the charity lottery houses and wondered what would it be like to win. I’m not sure now that I want to know! Merri and Dev are struggling to pay their rent and winning a luxury house in the Lake District seems like the answer to all their problems, but Merri has a secret and is wary of the publicity. When they move in, the local community is less than friendly and disturbing things start to happen. This was a compelling thriller with a great cast of characters that left me guessing. I found Merri’s back story very emotional.

For me it was an immediate beg for as an arc on NetGalley. Thank you @netgalley @Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House.
Well it is everyone’s dream and immediately I found my self wishing it. Over the book you see people reacting differently to Merri and Dev. Paige Merris friend who benefits also acted strange. Watching and waiting it was enticing all the way through. Remember your past always catches up with you….. no matter how distant and hard. Loved it x

This was an addictive, thrilling read which kept me guessing till the last page. Merri and Dev are the lucky winners of a Lake District mansion along with £250,000 and it’s like their dreams have come true. Prior to their win, they would be struggling to pay bills and living paycheck to paycheck. They move and Merri feels uneasy from the beginning. They meet new friends but strange things start to happen and then a body is found in the lake. Merri feels that somebody is watching her and worries it’s to do with her past. Told from multiple POVs and various timelines, this book had me guessing all the way through. Bit slow at times but it did add to the general suspense!

A slower pace in parts but still a gripping thriller.
Merri and Dev win a beautiful house in a competition… but all is not as it seems.
This book definitely brought some tense moments and had me guessing but alas my theories were wrong! Definitely wasn’t sure who I should be trusting 😂
There’s some creepy vibes going on too, maybe it was to do with walls of the house being glass and thinking anyone could be watching 👀
It’s told through a dual timeline and multi POV and as always I feel this adds to a story in getting a fuller picture!
Some lovely twists and suspense in parts to keep you engaged.
This is my second KL Slater book and I find her thrillers build slower but they definitely make you want to keep reading!
Thank you Netgalley, the publisher and author for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

An intriguing read. Merri and Dev have won a dream home. It sounds idyllic. I was suspicious of so many characters in this plot . I was wrong on all counts. Past Secrets and unexplained incidents made for great reading.

I enjoyed the suspense of this one, and kept me hooked but wasn’t a huge fan of one of the main characters. I enjoyed the plot though and did keep me guessing until the end

The Lucky Winners by K. L. Slater is a really enjoyable read. I liked getting to know Merri and following her story, which kept me turning the pages. While some parts are a little predictable, it doesn’t take away from the suspense or the fun of the book. A solid, entertaining thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I knew I would enjoy this book simply because it was written by K.L. Slater and I was not disappointed. The story was both gripping and enjoyable, with just the right amount of tension to keep me turning the pages.
Slater has such a talent for drawing readers in with realistic characters and suspenseful twists, and this book was no exception. From start to finish, it kept me hooked and eager to see how it would all play out.
Another fantastic read from one of my go-to authors.

A super summer read. Challenging and involved enough to read in the sun on a lounger without making your brain work too hard. Definately not entering that lottery to win a dream house.

Read it in one go! Very impressed - Always enjoy her books. Now to search out another!
I have read so many books by K.L. Slater that i have lost count, as a huge fan of psychological crime thrillers i eat these books up like i don't know what.
The Lucky Winners follow Merri and Dev a married couple that are struggling to pay all their bills and just the upkeep of a daily lifestyle. For a anniversary gift Dev buys a ticket to win the house of their dreams which lets be real everyone buys lottery tickets and hopes to be the lucky winner but it's a rare occurrence that'll happen until actually Merri and Dev actually win! They've won the house and won a load sum of prize money, now they don't have to worry about jobs and trying to make ends meet, they are rich but sometimes jealousy and secrets of the past will come to the surface.

I couldn’t put this down! Get past the first couple of chapters where Merri & Dev are struggling to pay bills etc and the book really starts… The tension that I felt as I was turning the pages was heavy! It was so good as we built up to the last couple of chapters!
Merri and Dev are finding it hard to settle in their new home, they feel out of place in the village and someone is vandalising the house, add in a stalker of sorts and it’s all go.
Brilliant!!!!

I absolutely loved this book. The storyline was unique and kept me wanting more. The main characters were so interesting. I just had to find out what happened to them. This is definitely my favourite book written by K. L. Slater. Can’t wait for the next one.

I really enjoyed this book. I really like this author and once again she didn't disapoint me. The book had lots of twists and turns. The suspence had me on the edge of my chair throughout. It was well written and the plot well thought out. Great psychological thriller
