I found this a good holiday read. The mystery is solved at the end of the story as the hints of previous history are explained. There are a couple of quality twists making the second half of the book more interesting. The first half was less exciting. The dramatic win was revealed and the couple move north but it seemed, at times to be a list of problems. The main character is set up to be endlessly anxious about her past which casts a shadow over the removal which should have been a very exciting situation for the couple.
The flashbacks failed to set up the probable explanations for me.

Such a good thriller. This kept me guessing to the end.
I found this a fast paced read, it gave me that “just one more chapter” feeling which is exactly how a thriller should be.
This is my first book from this author and it won’t be my last.

Certainly suspenseful and excellently written.
An excellent plot with strong characters who are oddly likable.
Great summer read which didn't take me long.

A twist and turn in every chapter, certainly kept (a want a be!!) detective gripped. The Lucky Winners is an excellent read set in very modern times, it could happen to you 😀 thank you @netgalley for the opportunity of discovering my new best author @KLSlater

Now this is what you call a THRILLER! WOW it really creeped me out. Best thriller I’ve read in a long time.
It begins with Merri and Dev, who, although working flat out are struggling to make ends meet, and Dev buys a ticket as an anniversary present with his last £20 to win a house plus a substantial amount of tax free cash in the bank. Imagine, after really struggling, he actually wins, wow, the excitement must have been overwhelming. However, something in Merri’s past is causing her concern, something she’s never told Dev and she does not need publicity because her world is about to come crashing down.
What follows is some of the best crime writing I’ve ever read.
The pace is relentless and the reader is on tenterhooks wondering how it will all actually pan out.
Coupled with the “the Watcher” a right obnoxious creep who knows all about Merri’s past, and is there in the background watching and hanging about like a bad smell. Although never actually seen, Merri senses she’s being watched. I did think I knew who it was, but I was wrong.
These are the sort of books where you’d like a follow-up to see how they’re all getting on with the aftermath.
My thanks to the author and the publishers for the ARC. Five stars 🌟 plus from me.

Fantastic psychological thriller. Was gripped from the beginning. Full of unexpected twists and turns. Dev and Merri definitely did not expect this to go that way after winning the house. Absolutely loved it.

Good premise for the story. A young couple winning a house worth millions in a draw.
But this leaves secrets exposed from the past. Are they being watched? And can they trust their new friends?
Enjoyable read but not as engaging as I’d hoped.

My first voyage into the world of K.L. slater and I was not disappointed.
Experiencing a change in fortune that seemingly alter their lives for the better, Merri and her husband Dev realise that Lady Luck isn’t always on your side… sometimes she can be downright vengeful.
This novel gives you just enough thread to make you think you’ve figured out the tapestry, before swiftly removing it from under your feet! The characters are well rounded, with consideration for the impact that events in our lives can truly have. The imagery of the house was beautifully done, creating just the right amount of luxury, contrasting with the cold emptiness of a place that doesn’t feel like home.
I would have liked to see more of Merri and Dev’s relationship, as I struggled with the idea of Dev’s ultimate acceptance of events… but that’s love I suppose.

This book was okay. It felt rushed, though. I didn't feel like I got to know the characters well enough to understand their motivations, fears, and relationships. It's an interesting idea though.

I have read so many books by K.L. Slater that i have lost count, as a huge fan of psychological crime thrillers i eat these books up like i don't know what.
The Lucky Winners follow Merri and Dev a married couple that are struggling to pay all their bills and just the upkeep of a daily lifestyle. For a anniversary gift Dev buys a ticket to win the house of their dreams which lets be real everyone buys lottery tickets and hopes to be the lucky winner but it's a rare occurrence that'll happen until actually Merri and Dev actually win! They've won the house and won a load sum of prize money, now they don't have to worry about jobs and trying to make ends meet, they are rich but sometimes jealousy and secrets of the past will come to the surface.
The locals are not happy with the mansion thinking it is an eyesore nor the couple, they soon make friends with their neighbours, Simon and Tilda and a local couple Sarah and Jack but a few days into their new home, the house is vandalized and Merri was sure she saw someone looking at them from the trees. What should of been a happy start is soon turning into a nightmare as we learn Merri has a hidden past and a secret she is keeping from Dev that someone out there knows and is going to set the truth free.
Told in mainly Merri's POV we jump back to the past as we learn about her upbringing in foster care alongside her younger sister Beth that tragically dies and we learn what actually happened further along. Dev's POV as he ponders what Merri is keeping from him and Lastly the watcher's POV who knows the secret that Merri is hiding and is looking for vengeance.
I really thought i knew who the Watcher was but when it was revealed i was so wrong, some characters are keeping secrets and not who they say they are and you don't know who you can trust. Full of suspense and secrets i was gripped and wanted to know what secret Merri had and what happened to her and her sister, her past after the reveal was quite sad and i felt for her. Overall an amazing read that i really enjoyed and would definitely recommend you read if you like a thriller/suspense book.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publishers Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House | Michael Joseph for the copy of this arc in exchange of my full honest review.

Merri and Dev are living in rented accommodation in Nottingham and are struggling to make ends meet. On a whim Dev buys a ticket to enter a draw for a multi million pound house in the Lake District. Merri thinks the £20 spent on the ticket could have been put to better use. However much to their astonishment they win the prize which also includes a cash prize of £250, 000. Of course there's a lot of publicity about the winners of the house which doesn't go down well with the locals who have been less than welcoming. Merri is also anxious about who might find out about their good fortune as she is keeping a big secret about an event that occurred before she met Dev and one that Dev knows nothing about. Then the house is vandalised and Merri is convinced someone is watching her.
This is a very enjoyable read which drew me in from the beginning.. Very creepy with twists and turns to keep you guessing to the end.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity of reading an advanced copy of this book.

An enjoyable read. Classic whodunnit with some twists along the way.
Definitely a good one to take on holiday!

Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from Netgalley. This was an engaging read which put a fresh spin on some familiar domestic thriller tropes. Slater wove in Merri's backstory carefully, it was emotive and engaging, and it was interesting seeing the story come together. I loved Dev, although all the cast was well-written, however, I disliked the explanation given for one character's actions.

This was an absolutely amazing read easily my favourite from this author so far. I was hooked from the very first page. The atmosphere is tense and immersive, with a creeping sense of unease that steadily builds throughout the story.
Merri and Dev are a couple struggling under financial pressure doing their best to get by. Merri however is carrying deep, hidden scars from her past secrets that even Dev doesn't know. On their anniversary, Dev surprises her with a raffle ticket and incredibly they win. But what first appears to be a life changing windfall quickly turns into something much darker and more dangerous.
The suspense is masterfully handled, with unexpected twists and turns that kept me constantly on edge. Merri is a brilliantly developed character strong, vulnerable, and utterly compelling. And the subtle sense that someone is watching adds a chilling page turning tension. This book is unique and completely gripping. I loved everything about it and will be recommending it to everyone.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this brilliant book

You never think your ticket will be the one pulled out to win one of those fabulous prizes.
But Merri and Dev's was.
They got a mansion in the Lake District.
And more, much more, than they bargained for...
Brilliant

KL Slater is a great thriller writer - I thought this concept was brilliant considering the current Omaze craze, it felt like a fresh storyline as a result.
This was easy to pace through in one sitting however not completely satisfying as a whole.
3 stars.

A great easy to read book which is set over several points of view and 2 time lines.
Whilst there are elements of predictability the twisty and tense elements make this book a really engaging read. So good I read this book in 2 sittings

Thanks to Kim and NetGalley for allowing me to read The Lucky Winners before the publication date.
It is an easy, yet engrossing book.
The author has created the tense, creepy atmosphere by inserting short chapters narrated by an unidentified person called ‘The Watcher’.
Who hasn’t thought about what they would do if they won a substantial amount of money?
Dev and Merri are in dire financial straits, avoiding the overdue letters and terrified to open the door.
On their 3rd anniversary, Dev spends £20, which they can ill afford, to buy a ticket in a competition to win a house.
Overnight their lives change when they find that they have won the house which overlooks Lake Windermere.
Before they move in, a brick is thrown through a window.
Although their immediate neighbours seem friendly, the locals are less than welcoming.
Chapter by chapter, we learn snippets of Merri’s life, details that even Dev doesn’t know.

I really enjoyed this one and it made me smile because it gave me huge OMAZE vibes. The themes were great, how looking at a huge win can potential change you and not always for the best. The two timelines and three POV's were expertly weaved In and the intrigue of the past timeline gave the book great tension and suspense. I felt the foreshadowing was a bit heavy handed at the start but this settled down after a while. I think it was the statements about the past and there were so many it got slightly irritating. The ending was rushed and a bit expositional there rebels about one character in particular a bit heavy handed. However, overall great characters and a thoroughly enjoyable read. I can se this as a great holiday read although I realise this is out in December.
Thanks so much for the arc.

Another one of K L Slater’s amazing reads. I devoured this in one sitting. Run like the wind to get this book! Very twisty!
