My thanks to Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Lucky Winners’ written by K L Slater in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Despite their car not working and a pile of bills that need paying, Dev buys Merri an anniversary gift, a ticket for the Dreamkey prize draw. Against all odds they’re the lucky winners of a mansion in the Lake District overlooking Lake Windermere plus a substantial amount of money in the bank. This is their chance to live the life they’ve only dreamt about, but with it comes publicity and Merri has a past she’s not told Dev about and would rather keep it a secret. Merri doesn’t feel comfortable and doesn’t know who to trust as she thinks someone is watching her with binoculars through the vast glass windows.
‘The Lucky Winners’ is an intricately written psychological thriller where Merri and Dev win the prize draw and move into their dream house in the Lake District. The story grabbed my attention as my husband occasionally buys tickets to win a luxury house, although unlike the characters in the story we haven’t yet won, and I was keen to see if it would change their lives for the better or whether Merri’s past would come back to haunt her. K L Slater is an accomplished writer who weaves intrigue and suspense into each chapter and with the twists and turns makes it difficult to decide who’s The Watcher and how the story will end. This has been an involving read with a conclusion that didn’t disappoint, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Full of lies, deceit and intrigue. This will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Winning a dream home in a prize is not all it is cracked up to be, would you really want to win one?
Excellent writing by K L Slater yet again.
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this book.

A good premise with a young couple winning a dream house and the answer to their money problems. But the publicity brings secrets and lies out of the woodwork. I found the characters very sketchy and it was all a bit.over written but I can see the appeal as a page turner.

Everybody wants to be a winner, don't they?
Ready for an unsettling, edge of your seat thriller? Then this one's for you.
The Lucky Winners by K L Slater tells the story of Dev and Merri, who win a dream home, giving them everything they've ever wanted. It's the solution to their problems. Isn't it?
Set against a beautiful backdrop of the Lake District, the story starts with a chilling sense of foreboding that stays with you throughout, making this a one sitting read.
Cleverly written to describe something so idyllic, while also being something quite unnerving.
The story cleverly moves between past and present to give more insight into Merri's past, revealing a little more each time, but still not giving away why she is so edgy about their new fortune. There are secrets in their marriage, but will these become their downfall?
An interesting dynamic builds between old and new friends, effectively adding to the sense of unease that is well written throughout the story.
Who is Beth?
Who is the Watcher?
What is Merri hiding?

A really enjoyable book that takes a fantastic event and turns it into a living nightmare - be careful what you wish for! Fast paced and full of authentic characters.

What starts as a dream come true quickly turns into a chilling nightmare.
When Dev gifts Merri a raffle ticket for their anniversary, neither of them expects to win a luxury Lake District mansion. But after moving in, Merri's unease grows- she's haunted by past trauma, and something about the house feels... off.
Strange sightings, a body in the lake, and the creeping sense they're being watched -K.L. Slater delivers another gripping, twist-filled thriller. Short, punchy chapters, eerie tension, and layered secrets make this an addictive read.
A dark domestic suspense I couldn't put down!

I really enjoyed this thriller and felt it was a page turner and couldn’t wait to get through this book
Merri and Dev are struggling to pay their bills. Dev buys a ticket for a competition to win a house for Merri for their wedding anniversary. Off course, they won a £3m house and 1/4m in spending money
The past catches up with Merri’s big secret and someone from past is wanting revenge on her
Full of suspense, psychological thriller
Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Random House

A solid thriller read.
Although the main storyline was a little obvious, there was a little side story working it's way through which did surprise me!

Merri and Dev are married and struggling with money when they win a luxury home in a raffle. However, the publicity attracts some unwelcome attention from Merri's secret past.
The characters were a bit one-dimensional, and the writing is repetitive in places. It was fairly obvious who the watcher was. I liked Monica the landlady best.
Good for the beach.

I liked the tension built and the premise of starting again. A compelling read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.

I think most people at one time or another have fantasised about winning their dream house. But how many of us have thought about the logistics. Merri and Dev's fantasy comes true but they soon realise that it's not so easy to just pack up your life, leave your job and move somewhere where you know no one. And that's before the graffiti on the door, the broken window and Merri's fear that there is someone watching the house.
I really enjoyed this book especially those tantalising excerpts of Merri's past. I kept telling myself I'd read just one more chapter and that went on until the book was finished. There were a couple of shocks at the end that I really didn't see coming. All in all a good read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book

Having enjoyed ‘Message Deleted’, a previous book by this writer, I was encouraged to try this novel and I wasn’t disappointed at all. To win a multi million dollar home for just one ticket purchase is a chance in a million or more, but someone has to win and in this story Dev and Merri are the winners, very lucky winners, because the cost of running a home of this size is helped by a large cash prize as well. Unsurprisingly, there’s someone from the past that wants to change the couple’s future and this may involve mental hurt and straight forward murder. This book covers the many problems and issues that follow such a large win and, of course, it’s far from plain sailing. Add some new and old weird friends and all cannot go forward nicely and end well. The twists were a wonderful surprise and may leave you wondering why people do what they do, but it’ll force you to read quickly to find and the how and why.

I really enjoyed The Lucky Winners an extremely captivating thriller by K. L. Slater.
Merri a healthcare assistant married to Dev an operations manager at a distribution centre they live in a a semi in Nottingham and living from hand to mouth as the bills keep mounting up and credit cards are maxed out.
Their third wedding anniversary has arrived and Dev buys a raffle ticket for DreamKey national prize draw to win a three million-pound mansion in the Lake District and all their dreams come through when they win.
They say that "The grass is greener on the other side." but will this be true for both Merri and Dev when they move into their dream home.
Meri cannot fully enjoy her new life and wealth because of a tragedy which happened sixteen years ago in her childhood and which she is keeping that part of her life a secret from Dev.
Meri cannot shake of the feeling that she is being watched and this causes a lot of anxiety in case it is someone from her past who has come back to reveal her secret.
Meri and dev make friends with two local couples but one of them is leading a double life and finds out what Meri has been hiding.
Meri is in a turmoil when she struggles to adapt to this way of living especially when the locals vandalise their dream home and she feels like giving it all up.

This was my first book by the author and it didn’t disappoint.
I enjoyed the story line, the little twists and the description of the characters.
I will be keeping an eye out for their other books and hoping they will also be page turners

What starts as a dream-come-true quickly spirals into a nightmare. Merri and Dev win a luxury home and cash, perfect right? Except Merri’s past won’t stay buried, someone’s watching them, and suddenly, their new life feels like a trap.
This is a slow-burn thriller with creeping tension, secrets unraveling, and a twist that made me stop and reread. Merri is such a layered character, and I loved how the unease built page by page.
Not the fastest-paced thriller, but if you love psychological suspense with a dark edge and a big twist payoff, add this to your list.

I really enjoyed this book. The beginning did feel slow and took me a little while to get into the story. But after around 40% I was hooked. Untrustworthy charatcer and an unreliable narrator really had me questioning who I could believe. I'd recommend

Merri Harris and Dev Jain have won a dream house on the shores of Lake Windermere after Dev buys a £20 ticket in a raffle for their wedding anniversary . Merri was irritated that he’d spent the little money they have on this as they’ve got lots of outstanding bills and are struggling financially to pay those and the rent on a tiny two bed semi in Nottingham.
Merri is even more unhappy when she finds out they have won as a camera crew turn up and it seems likely her photo could be all over social media. She is afraid someone will recognise her from her past as there is some big secret involving her sister Beth who is dead.
In the Lake District, Merri and Dev start meeting new people who all seem a little odd. Meanwhile bad things keep happening and it is clear someone is not happy about them being in the house. It’s all very dark and mysterious as events unfold and more secrets from the past are told to the reader.
I found the start quite gripping but the second half was a bit of a damp squib and the big reveal was a bit of a let down for me and left my wondering why there been such intense secrecy about it.
With thanks to NetGalley and Michael Joseph for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really good book I think I will be reading a lot more of k l slater books as all I've read so far are really well worth a read .

Just who can you trust? That's the question at the forefront of this book. The story is told from three perspectives,Merri,Dev and an ominous "Watcher",with Merri's backstory from sixteen years ago gradually revealed.
The multiple viewpoints add layers of unease, but for me,Merri felt a little underwhelming as a character, given what we eventually learn about her past.Id have preferred her to come across as stronger and more resilient, but her vulnerability does tie into the themes of secrecy and danger which KL Slater aways handles so well.
Overall, it didn't blow me away, but it's an easy, pacy read with short chapters with steady suspense that make it ideal for a holiday read, engaging but not too heavy.
Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Random House for the Arc.

Merri and Dev are struggling to pay their bills and get by each month. When Dev buys a ticket for a draw to win a dream home, neither of them ever expect to win, for Dev, it’s a dream come true.
Moving to the Lake District is perfect for Dev, he’s ready for a change. Merri is not so enthusiastic, Dev knows something is playing on her mind, but what?
When things start happening before they have even moved in, Merri can’t help but wonder if it’s to do with her past, her past that Dev doesn’t know everything about.
The story is told from the point of view of Merri, Dev, and The Watcher. We also gradually learn about Merri’s life sixteen years ago.
The characters are believable and it takes a while to work out just who can and can’t be trusted.
The Lucky Winners is a dark psychological thriller and makes you question everything you believe you know.
It is a tale of secrets, lies and heartbreak.
This is storytelling at its best. The author weaves a tale that has you questioning every single thing.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
