This was a good book. It kept me gripped throughout. The ending wasn’t as strong as expected though. The main character was quite weak too and the author could have made her more powerful. But overall, a good beach read.

Living pay check to pay check, not always meeting the bills Paige and Dev celebrate their 3rd wedding anniversary.
Splurging on a dream home raffle ticket annoys Paige, then they win.
The 4million dream home is in the lake District, not exactly near their home of Nottingham.
Up rooting and embracing the house and money is easier for Dev than the more reserved Paige.
But then Dev doesn't have a secret from his young adulthood.
Secrets, vandalism and paranoia are integral to the story that even an incredible change in fortune does not come without problems and issues. Not what you daydream about when you imagine a life changing win.

This was ok.. not great but ok.
It did drag a little at times and I just wanted to get through it.
Good story line, characters a bit meh.

Eerie in a way that I wasn’t expecting. Makes you question human nature and the way some people relate to each other. Enjoyed the suspense.

Who wouldn’t dream of winning their ideal home? But for Merri, the reality is far from the happily-ever-after she imagined. What should be a dream come true becomes a waking nightmare as long-buried secrets threaten to resurface under the glare of unwanted publicity. Not even her husband, Dev, knows the truth she’s been hiding and now, she fears he soon will.

Determined to make the most of their new start, Merri tries to settle in, and the couple quickly bonds with two local couples. For a while, life in the beautiful Lake District seems full of promise. But when Merri spots a figure watching their house, unease begins to creep in. Then comes the most chilling discovery yet-scratches across their glass windows and a menacing message spray-painted for all to see.

What follows is a series of sinister and unsettling events that shake Merri to her core. Even Dev begins to wonder if they’re truly welcome in their new community. But who is behind the threats- and how far will they go?

I was completely hooked by this gripping novel. The atmospheric Lake District setting and the cleverly woven dual timeline added real depth to the story, heightening the suspense and emotional impact. A thoroughly enjoyable, twisty read full of mystery and unease.

You’ve won the house of your dreams but it becomes a nightmare…..
I discovered K.L.Slater last year and these books do not disappoint!! Dev and Merri win a luxury house in a lottery, and it comes at a point in their lives when things are particularly tough. They can’t believe their luck but they aren’t instantly welcomed into the community. Much jealousy underpins the feelings from the locals and secrets from Merri’s past threaten to be revealed.

This book kept me hooked all the way through. It is everyone’s dream to win a house and enough money to pay off debt but Merri is not as excited as Dev. She has a dark past and has reinvented herself with a new name and she does not want to be found. Their dream house reminds me very much of the house in Agatha Christie’s “ Endless Night’, another dark book. There are many twists in this book adding to the suspense and I have to admit that I did not guess who the watcher is. Scary in places but a good story with a satisfactory ending. Thank you Netgalley for the, chance to read and review this book ahead of publication.

Imagine being in debt and winning a dream house and money to boot.
A dream come true that quickly turns in to a nightmare complicated by guilt, secrets ,jealousy and revenge.
K L Slater is excellent and take you through a book with brilliant charachters and you thinking you have orked out everything that has happened.
Think again, she is the genius of twists and turns.
Loved this book

Merri and Dev are struggling financially so when they win a luxury house in the Lake District it seems like a dream come true….but Merri has a past which seems like it’s catching up with her, a gripping easy read

Thank you to K. L. Slater for the opportunity to read The Lucky Winners as an ARC.

I was excited to read this, as I love thrillers, and the writing style was great - very descriptive, fully immersing you in the house and surrounding environment.

Unfortunately, the story itself felt a little disappointing. I had already guessed one of the main story points early on (purposely trying to be vague here to avoid spoilers), and it felt like the main story was only there to provide buffer around the flashbacks in some places. The ending/epilogue also felt a little rushed.

There were a lot of twists and turns in the interwoven story lines, which did keep me guessing, and I would be happy to read other books from K. L. Slater in the future.

I always enjoy books written by KL Slater and The Lucky Winners is another great read.
Couple Merri and Dev are watching every penny, so when Dev presents Merri with a lottery ticket for the chance to win a dream home, she is cross with him as she feels she has wasted money that they frankly do not have. But someone has to win, and Dev is delighted when they learn it is them; Merri is somewhat more cautious. She is hiding something from her past. But what is it exactly that she is hiding? Will it be revealed and what will be the effects of any such revelations? Merri and Dev are a likeable couple, but who can they trust?
I was gripped by this book from the outset. Highly recommended.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for a copy if this book in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve read a few books by KLSlater and find they’re engaging and easy to read. The Lucky Winners is no exception and taps into the current phenomenon where participants buy in to a monthly draw and one lucky winner gets a huge ‘dream’ house. Only in this case, all is not as it seems and the dream turns into a nightmare. I whipped through this in a couple of sessions. It’s tense and twisty, with enough plausibility to keep the reader engaged and twists I didn’t expect. Well paced and neatly plotted. I enjoyed it.
My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I have read all of the authors books and they are all very different which is an achievement in itself. I think what she does well is write about every day people with the wishes and desires we all have in our real lives. Psychological thrillers are my book of choice and this is often my author of choice. I get very excited to read her next book.

Thank you for the advance copy.

5 star reading for sure. I loved Merri and her husband Dev - the other characters - not so much.

I had this deep worry from early on that one of them would be a murderer. Then as a few more characters appeared they were added to the list - but without me worrying about them!

One outstanding theme was the insight provided into one example of failure within the care system.

I was totally shocked by its inadequacy in looking after young children.

Luckily in real life there are plenty of positive examples in our care system for vulnerable families..

In this book "Care" is not the appropriate word. Maybe "No Care" would be better. An emotional read.

I have often guessed that winning the lottery or similar might not be as fabulous as it would seem. For a start it could be damaging to relationships with existing family members and friends. The plot provided a different perspective altogether.

K.L.Slater has provided an excellent read. I am pretty sure that this will be picked up by someone like Netflix.

Many thanks to Michael Joseph (Penguin Random House) and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of The Lucky Winners.

This suspenseful novel follows Merri and Dev, a couple who unexpectedly win their dream home in the picturesque Lake District. While Dev is thrilled at the fresh start, Merri is plagued by anxiety—concerned that a past she’s tried to bury may resurface in this seemingly idyllic setting.

The characters are well-written, with just enough depth to become invested in them, yet remain shadowed by a sense of suspicion that keeps you guessing about their true motives. The pacing is initially a slow burn, particularly in the early chapters before the move, but once the couple settles into their new home and unsettling events begin to unfold, the narrative gains momentum.

The Lake District setting is atmospheric and evocative, though the story primarily focuses on the house itself rather than the wider community, which left me wishing for more immersion in the local surroundings. That said, the claustrophobic nature of the house adds to the tension as the plot thickens.

Just when I thought I had the ending figured out, the story delivered a surprising twist that veered off in an unexpected—and intriguing—direction. This subplot could easily have been expanded into a story of its own, and I would have loved to explore it further.

Overall, The Lucky Winners is a solid and satisfying thriller. Perfect for readers who enjoy secrets, suspense, and the haunting weight of the past catching up with the present.

Not my usual go to read, but I was enticed in by the book cover and title & so glad I was. What a page turner, a tale of love, mystery and betrayal, really enjoyed it

We’ve all seen those adverts right, win your dream home in exchange for buying a ticket (or 20!). Well down on their luck couple Merri and Dev do just that.
This book was sooo slow, nothing came to light until 91% of the way through the book. There weren’t a lot of twists along the way, and a few bits left without hardly any or enough explanation. I felt the whole storyline with Paige was almost pointless.

I’ve enjoyed books by the author before so will probably pick another up but this wasn’t my favourite.

A win but at what cost?

Down on their luck, Dev buys his wife Merri an entry into a competition to win a luxury house, overlooking lake Windemere.

Much to their surprise, and the shock of the very private and secretive Merri, they win and are whisked away from their Nottingham flat to a multimillion pound mansion.

All is not as it seems, as they are shunned by the locals, and some old secrets are unearthed.

The atmosphere starts to close in and strangle you in this twisty read, subjecting this reader to sleepless nights to get to the heart of everyone’s secrets.

I love the authors style of writing and was very excited to get to read this arc. This started off great and loved the plot and how it was going but I found it dipped a bit in the middle and i struggled to hold my interest but I got back into it eventually and was glad I did but this wasn't my favourite unfortunately but still a good decent thriller which is well written. Rounded up to 4 stars. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for this arc.
