I love the authors style of writing and was very excited to get to read this arc. This started off great and loved the plot and how it was going but I found it dipped a bit in the middle and i struggled to hold my interest but I got back into it eventually and was glad I did but this wasn't my favourite unfortunately but still a good decent thriller which is well written. Rounded up to 4 stars. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for this arc.

This book started off in a promising way. But somewhere in the middle I felt it lost it's way, which was a shame. There were elements that I could not believe and found a little annoying to be truthful.

The Lucky Winners by K.L. Slater is a tense psychological thriller with a clever hook—a lottery win that quickly turns dark. As secrets unravel and trust erodes among a group of seemingly lucky individuals, Slater keeps the suspense tight and the pacing brisk, making it hard to put down.

While some character decisions stretch plausibility, the twists are satisfying and well-timed, and the central mystery holds strong throughout. It’s a fast, entertaining read with plenty of intrigue and just the right dose of paranoia. A solid 4-star thriller that delivers exactly what fans of domestic suspense crave.

This is a good story with so many twists and turns along the way... Different characters take on different personas which keep you engaged and trying to work out who is really the bad guy!

I loved this book. One again Slater has written in a way that has a good pace while also keeping the suspense. Reading the viewpoint of the watcher with the slow integration of Janey’s past left me guessing for the whole book switching between who the watcher could be. I also loved that so many elements of the story crossed and even though some aspects seemed irrelevant they then became relevant to solving the mystery of what was happening.

A new author for me.
I enjoyed the writing style. I was kept guessing with the twists.
Merri’s paranoia built brilliantly through the book and added to the suspense. Alongside the stunning location.

A great thriller to lose yourself in for a few hours.

What a fantastic read. I really enjoyed this story right from the first page, when Merri gets a ticket to enter a draw to win a house for her wedding anniversary from her husband Dev she is not happy but when it they turn out to be the winners it seems like a dream come true but it actually far from it. From the moment they arrive at their dream house in the lake district things start going wrong and as they try to make friends with some local people things take a sinister turn and a secret she has been keeping even from Dev will have to be revealed but can she recover from her past and finally get some peace. A thriller full of secrets and lies with a plot twist and wonderful writing by the author. Highly recommend this book

I enjoyed this book. When Merri and Dev buy a lottery ticket, little do they dream that they are about to win the house of their dreams. They move in to the beautiful new build in the Lake District and it seems all their dreams have come true. However, Merri is hiding a big secret and someone from her past has spotted her on the publicity for their win and is determined to get revenge! This is a twisty story that will keep you guessing to the end.

Merri and Dev are struggling financially and watching every penny, so when Dev buys a ticket to a competition for a dream home as a surprise for their anniversary, it feels like a small chance at something better. They end up winning a stunning three million dollar house in the Lake District along with a quarter of a million in spending money. It seems like everything is finally falling into place, but the excitement doesn't last long.

Dev is thrilled with their new life, but Merri is unsettled. She is haunted by past trauma and can sense something is wrong. When strange things begin to happen and a body turns up in the lake, their dream home starts to feel more like a nightmare.

This book was completely gripping from the first page. It was tense, thought-provoking and filled with suspense. The short chapters made it easy to fly through, and the vivid setting brought everything to life. K.L. Slater delivers another brilliant thriller that I highly recommend.

The Lucky Winners had an intriguing premise that drew me in, but unfortunately, it didn’t fully deliver. The characters felt quite flat and unlikable, which made it hard to stay invested in their stories or care much about what happened to them. It’s not a bad book, the plot had potential and there were moments of suspense, but overall, it lacked the depth and engagement I was hoping for. An okay read, but not particularly memorable

When the not so lucky winners move into the beautiful prize house in the Cotswolds some events in the past threaten to destroy everything. There is a buildup of tension throughout the book and nothing is as it seems!

A really interesting premise for a thriller and relatively topical; a enjoyable read, although the characters were slightly annoying, but the plot worked really well. Some good twists and turns. Ending was a little flat comparatively but overall a good book!

Merri and Dev are the lucky winners of a multi-million Pound house at Lake Windermere. With a great deal of media attention, they leave their tiny two-bedroom terraced house behind and move into their new home. Dev is exhilarated about the promise of a new and less money-worried future, Merri however is fearful about leaving the safety and anonymity of their old home behind. She fears the exposure and has good reason to do so – something happened in her past that she has kept under lock and key even from those closest to her. The story oscillates between the time of their move to Windermere and events in Merri’s adolescence that slowly reveal her secret and the reasons for her fearfulness.

It is a psychological thriller that fell a bit flat for me, mainly because the motivations for the actions of its characters remained quite rudimentary. If this does not bother you, this can be be a really good read. It certainly is full of suspense, almost every chapter ends with a cliff-hanger that makes you turn the pages.

I am grateful to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was the first book I have read from K.L Slater and I must admit it definitely did not disappoint.

An addictive & gripping thriller that had me hooked throughout.

Merri & Dev are a married couple who live in a rented house in Nottingham, struggling to make ends meet. Dev buys Merri a £20 ticket for a competition for their wedding anniversary for a chance to win a DreamKey mansion and a large sum of money. They win it and Dev is over the moon, Merri is too although she is a bit more reserved on how things are going to change. It all seems too good to be true and not everyone is happy about their good fortune.

I do feel as though it was more of a slower thriller to begin with than I am usually used to although the twists and suspense kept me engaged throughout. I loved the authors writing style, the short chapters and vivid descriptions made it a complete page turner. I would highly recommend!

This was my first time reading a book by K.L. Slater, and it won't be my last

Overall it is an easy yet suspenseful read, packed with twists and turns. It begins with Merri and Dev, a couple struggling financially like so many others, until they win their dream house! You’d think this would solve all their problems, but for Merri, it dredges up a painful past and keeps the reader guessing right alongside her as strange events unfold. There are several possible culprits, but is it the one you expected?

I started this yesterday and have ploughed through it in 24 hours. A gripping, fast paced, tense story.

The story follows Merri and Dev, a young couple, living in a flat in Nottingham, working hard and in debt. When their luck changes literally overnight, winning a dream house in a prize draw.

Even though they are happy about it Merri seems a bit daunted by the media attention and past secrets that she has told very few people, not even her husband. After they move into the dream house, things start happening. Vandalism to the house, an unnerving feeling of being watched, along with the general dislike of the house and its new owners from the locals.

The story had me gripped from the start. We’ve all dreamt of winning a massive dream house but the story behind Merri makes this even more compelling. I literally couldn’t put this down.

This was my first time reading a book by K.L Slater and I will be adding her other books to my TBR.

The Lucky Winners was an easy but suspenseful read with lots of twists and turns. The story starts with Merri and Dev who like most people are struggling financially, until they win their dream house! You would think this would solve all their problems but for Merri it drags up a painful past and leaves the reader guessing as much as Merri when strange things begin to happen. It could be a number of people but is it the one you expected?

ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This one was a bit of a slog. I was intrigued by the prologue, but it didn’t take long for that interest to wear thin. At 8%, I already wasn’t keen on the main character, but I stuck with it hoping for a payoff.

By 18%, I was close to DNF’ing. Merri is persistently anxious and, frankly, exhausting. Dev, on the other hand, comes across like an overexcited puppy, and not in a charming way. I struggled to relate to either of them and found their personalities grating.

At 61%, it was still a struggle. Merri didn’t grow on me, and the continued teasing of a big secret dragged. None of the characters felt particularly likeable or real, and the plot never really gained traction.

It wasn’t until around 75% that the story picked up, but by then it was nearly over. The final twist was unexpected, but the buildup didn’t justify the slow pace. Repetitive, overly drawn out, and ultimately underwhelming.

I’ve rounded up to 3 stars for the final 25%, which at least delivered a bit of momentum but overall, it felt too little, too late.

Wow what a great idea for a story. We’ve all seen the to adverts for Omaze to win one of their amazing houses but this story will put you off for life! Set in beautiful Windermere the house is a monstrosity, all glass and steel, standing out like a sore thumb. Believable characters, lots of secrets and people who aren’t quite what they seem. Lots of twists make this a gripping story that had me completely engrossed right from the start. Not familiar with the author but I would definitely read more by them. Fantastic!!
