I have to be honest, I'm not sure how I felt about this book. I was interested in the 9/11 aspect, but I felt like that was a small part of this. I also found the woman to be unlikeable and unrelatable.

This book was raw and honest and left me with so many conflicting emotions. No matter how much time passes, the stories from 9/11 are always heart-wrenching, and this book was an important reminder that although "life goes on," the way it goes on after such an incredible loss can be as brutal and difficult as the loss itself. I was a mother of young boys on 9/11 and can't imagine losing my husband and my children's father to such a horrible act of terrorism. I can't imagine what decisions I would have made afterwards, or what my life would look like now. I can't imagine finding the words to express what that felt like, and commend the author for her ability to so beautifully and accurately describe that experience.

However, based on the book's description, I thought I would feel more hopeful by the end. I also would have liked more details on how the author survived and thrived after 9/11, rather than just a retelling of what happened next. Overall I came away with a feeling of profound sadness. Under the circumstances, this doesn't seem unusual. I just didn't find the inspiration and insight I expected. 3.5 stars.

Thank you NetGalley and She Writes Press for an advanced digital copy of this book.
