This book follows Mads, her older brother has just gotten engaged and Mads has been asked to be part of the wedding party. Mads is 17 and all of the other bridesmaids are in their 20's. When it is revealed that Mads has never been on a date or been kissed, the bridemaids make it their mission to find her a love match.

This was a cute twist on the never been kissed trope, Mads had some really horrible dates and it made the story more fun to read. She also had 2 guys that seemed to be at the top of the list, and I definitely had a favorite from the beginning.

This is a definitely a YA book, and I felt the immaturity of Mads during some parts of the book. But again she is only 17 and most 17 year olds make questionable choices.

I listened to the audio for this one and I really enjoyed the narration by Jennifer Jill Araya. She brought Mads to life and I felt all of her emotions while listening to this one.

omg i love K.L. Walther!! one of the greats if you ask me! I thought this book was so cute and so heartwarming and it reminded me a lot of other parts of media that i enjoy quite a lot. some examples include the summer i turned pretty, slumber party (that one movie ya know? with the truth or dare lol), and i’ll be honest i forgot the last one but it did exist okay!! i kinda think this might be my second favorite of the 4 that i’ve read by this author!

i loved the characters. austin and katie were so fun to read about and i enjoyed their dynamic. i also loved the family and the bridesmaids! and obviously i loved marco, connor and mads too. i will say though i think marco was my favorite of the whole cast. the highlight for me personally though was definitely mere and wit. GIVE ME MORE OF THEM RIGHT NOW OKAY?

the plot was so simple but also so heartwarming and relatable for anyone whos ever a. been married b. been a bridesmaids or even dare i say c anyone whos ever had boy drama HAHA. (/ been in highschool lets be real). I personally really enjoyed the love triangle type thing going on in this book and i thought the plot itself was fun with the different dates and all of that!

i listened to the audiobook version of this book and i found the narration to be super smooth. she really brought the story and the characters to life. i enjoyed my time listening and would recommend to other listeners. i quite enjoyed the narrator enough to research what other things she has voiced! .

i would definitely recommend this book, especially for people looking for a quick easy romance read (and ESPECIALLY for fans of the summer of broken rules! the wit and mere cameos can’t be missed!!) i am so so so happy though that i got the chance to read and review this book for netgalley and RBmedia! thank you so much for the opportunity!

this was overall a cute story and it was unique, at least to me, since i have not read a book like this before. this is not your typical romance novel where you follow two main characters falling in love. in this story you follow just one main character, mads, and quite a lot of other characters, and it is not just about her romantic relationships but also family and friend relationships. this book is kind of difficult to explain plot wise since there is not really one specific plot, it really just follows her life and there are a lot of things happening, which made the book unique and different but at the same time a little confusing and also slow at times. it is a quick read though and i enjoyed my time with this book.

there are a lot of characters in this book which i found complicated and hard to follow at times, especially because i listened to this on audio, i forgot the names of characters often at the beginning so i was sometimes a little lost about who we were talking about. i did really enjoy most of the characters though, a lot of them were really likeable. the main character, mads, was really cute and sweet and it was fun reading about her. i did feel a little bit sorry for her at times because she didn't really feel comfortable doing the "dating thing" at times and she also got into some difficult situations. she did feel very true to her age, which a lot of people my age don't like reading about, but i really liked it. i have been that age, so i did connect to it, even though i don't connect it with my life today. her being so true to her age made me really care for her and i sometimes just wanted to hug her. she was often insecure and she just really wanted to fit in and for people to like her. she really was adorable and so well portrayed as a teenage girl.
i also loved her family and the connection she had with them. i especially loved her dads, they were really amazing and so adorable, you really could see why mads was the way she was. they were all just so wholesome, trusting and had a great relationship. i also loved marco. he really is the dream teenage boy. he was so sweet and caring.
i was a little confused about katie though, i am not sure what to think of her. she was behaving really strangely through out the book and i kind of guessed the reason for it but the reason given for it at the end still didn't really explain everything, it felt a little rushed and didn't really feel completely explained or resolved, in my opinion. i don't really know how to explain it but it was just something that bothered me.

overall, i liked this book, it was different for me, it was cute and easy to read. it wasn't anything spectacular for me though, and i am afraid i won't really be thinking about this story in the future, it is unfortunately easily forgettable, i believe (other then marco, he really was so sweet), but we will see in the future. i do recommend it though, especially for younger audiences. it is a cute and easy read, which is exactly what you need sometimes.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this audio ARC.

This ended up being so good - definitely for fans of To All the Boys, which I also loved as a teenager.

It actually had a lot of depth to it. There were lots of things going on, but easy to follow and fall in love with the characters.

Mads is looking for her first love, trying to build an (she thinks) impossible relationship with her soon to be sister in law, while being a field hockey badass.

The family dynamic here was so good. They all cared for each other so much and wanted what was best for one another. Even if, the wanting what was best for them was slightly misjudged in the beginning regarding her brother and his fiancée.

The audiobook narrator did an excellent job. She was able to a 17 year old, who was having first time experiences, with what seemed to be no effort (despite me knowing lots and lots of effort goes into it - that is just how good she is at her job).

This was cute. I love throwing a YA into the rotation. My favorite part of this was the back and forth between Mads and her two men, Connor and Marco.

Mads is going to be a bridesmaid in her brother’s wedding and the bridal party decides she needs a date. They start setting her up on blind dates that do not go right at all.

Read this book if you like:
- the bachelor
- family drama
- summer things

Thank you NetGalley, Tantor Audio, and K. L. Walther for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

A First Time For Everything
KL Walther

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is my first time reading this author and I'm so glad that I grabbed this because I loved every second!

Maybe I totally missed the significance or specific point that the title becomes relevant - but I'm letting that slide because we see Mad's experiencing many firsts throughout this storyline.

We follow this from Mad's pov and I think this really worked here as we really got such a great sense of her character and personality along with her inner thoughts and feelings.
This proves significant nearer the ending of the book as we see that many of her thoughts and assumptions change.

I loved the whole premise of this - with multiple different threads running concurrently as we follow the different areas of Mad's life.
Her relationship with the family, the drama of her brothers wedding, her college applications and of course her romantic (or sometimes otherwise!) relationships.

Although the main focus is on Mads throughout, I found that many of the other characters played vital roles, verging on there being multiple main characters.
I loved the family dynamics and the great relationship that they all had with each other - as well as that awkward period where they are each trying to integrate new people into that group.

I think that I pretty much called it with most of the plot points pretty early on, but this absolutely didn't spoil my enjoyment of the process and the conclusions to these points.
I loved how each of the threads progressed and was smiling away as each came to a satisfying settlement.

I loved all the characters and each of their arcs was done to perfection.
Even though some of the interactions didn't quite come to a good ending, they certainly played their parts in progressing the overall storyline, which I loved.
I'm being purposefully vague here.

The writing style was wonderful and I was totally drawn in from the start and held captivated until the very last page.
I just couldn't put this one down!

A brilliant first read and I'm already missing these characters!
I can't wait to read more!

This had everything I've come to expect from a fun YA romcom by KL Walther. There's tons of wedding planning/party/ceremony shenanigans involving the FMC's brother and fiance PLUS the other bridesmaid's are determined to get virgin, never had a boyfriend before, field hockey jock, Madeline a date to the wedding through a series of bachelorette style dates. Nothing could go wrong there right? I loved that there were two dads in this family but was a little disappointed because I thought for sure Madeline was going to fall for a girl not a guy. Aside from that it was still a fun story and great on audio narrated by Jennifer Jill Araya. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

This book was an interesting read! I absolutely loved The Summer of Broken Rules, liked While We’re Young, and wasn’t wild about What Happens After Midnight, so I went into this book skeptical but with an open mind!

To start off, I couldn’t stand Madeline. She comes across as such a whiny teen girl. Her perspective is narrow and she openly hates her brother’s fiancé. As the story goes, she slowly (very slowly) gains some maturity and realizes that there’s more to people than meets the eye. Through all of this, I think it’s important to note how well the narrator does at portraying this writing in the style and tone of someone Madeline’s age!

From there, this is a will they won’t they for her and a number of potential suitors. Overall, I loved this premise! A group of adult bridesmaids helping the teen in the bunch try to find love. In practice, it was fun! The group had a great dynamic and some very likable characters.

This book is definitely YA in its story telling. As an adult, many of the main characters’ choices frustrated me. I think the frustrating nature of the decisions made lends credibility to the writing being solid YA. This is a good read for any young adults looking for a cute and fun romance!

Okay, I finally picked up my first K.L. Walther book and… yep, I get the hype now. Consider me officially obsessed. As a proud YA romance junkie, I devoured this one and I didn’t want it to end. need to read her whole backlist immediately so I can scream about the Easter eggs like the rest of the fandom.

The vibes? Immaculate. The tropes? PERFECT. The dating drama? I’m so here for it. Watching Mads navigate the chaotic quest to find the perfect plus-one for her brother’s wedding was equal parts hilarious and heart-melting. There were a few candidates along the way, but I had my fave from page one, and justice was served!

Also, the family dynamics were so adorable. Mads and her dads had the kind of open, loving, laugh-out-loud relationship that filled my heart. And don’t even get me started on the dogs. But let’s talk about Katie. Mads’ rocky relationship with her was lowkey one of the most compelling parts. I loved peeling back the layers and figuring out why Austin fell for her, even when she came off… a little prickly. It added so much depth!

Bottom line: this book gave me romance, chaos, cute dogs, family feels, and all the summer drama I crave. It’s the ultimate YA beach read and I am so here for it.

This was a really cute story, the plot is in a similar vein of To All The Boys, obviously isn’t a copy by any means, but if you like those type of stories this one is definitely for you! It’s fun to watch Mads reach the cusp of adulthood, and navigate choices that will decide the trajectory her life will take. She ends up forced into close proximity with a group of older (but still young) women who enlist themselves as her life mentors, offering advice and stories of their own experiences with young love, college, and first years away from home.
I really enjoyed this audiobook! The production and narrator were wonderful as well, such an enjoyable listen, I blew right through it while knitting and working around the house!

Thank you to Tantor Audio and NetGalley for an advanced listening copy, I’m so grateful and enjoyed it so much!

*3.5 stars SPOILERS TO FOLLOW

WHAT I LIKED
- This book was so refreshing and such a unique concept for YA! Such a different take on dating as a teenager and especially the friends-to-lovers trope and the unrealistic expectations tied to it.
- Everyone in this book held each other accountable, even when it came to the main character! On many occasions, she herself was shown she still had a lot to learn and she took it in stride. I loved how in the end, Mads and her parents realized THEY had been in the wrong about Katie.
- Natalie and Mads' friendship came about in a peculiar way, yet was one of the most positive aspects of the book for me.
- I liked how Connor and Mads just weren't to be more than friends. Because although the best friends to lovers trope is popular for a reason, some boy-girl friendships are just that and that's also so important and pure!

WHAT I DISLIKED
- I don't know that I really fell in love with the cast of characters. They were fun to read about, but they most likely won't stick with me
- Mads realizing "this whole time" she'd been "in love" with Marco felt really sudden and like it came out of nowhere. Not super convincing.

Can't forget : Loved the audiobook narrator, she was great!

This was such a fun, cute read! I love some YA every now and then to change it up. This book followed Mads as she decided she wanted her first boyfriend. She is a bridesmaid in her brother’s upcoming wedding, so the other bridesmaids took it upon themselves to help her! It had bachelor for teens vibes and was so fun.
I really enjoyed the side characters, especially Katie. This was more than romance, it had lots of different relationships it focused on. Definitely recommend this one!

A very cute and sweet YA romance! The family dynamics & friendships were my favorite part of the story, and I loved seeing the relationship grow between Mads and Katie. Mads is a very realistic teenage character, and I found the pop culture references to be fun and not overbearing. This is one I would definitely recommend for anyone wanting a light YA story. Oh, and I enjoyed the audio narration quite a bit, as well!

Narration: I was so impressed with this narrator! There are A LOT of female characters in this book. Given that much of the book revolves around bridesmaid activities for an upcoming wedding, there are specifically many scenes where there are maybe 5-7 women in a room talking together. This stands out specifically because Jennifer Jill Araya created subtle, distinctive voices for each of the characters. I could generally identify which bridesmaid was talking based on the voice before the dialogue tags. Honestly, I think it helped me keep track of the characters better than I would when reading, since I can struggle to recall names of characters. Matching them each to their voice meant I was actually able to keep track of which details/characteristics went with which bridesmaid when they were all hanging out. In general, all of voices, regardless of gender or age, that Araya creates lend to immersing the listener in the story.

The Book Itself: Overall, I greatly enjoyed this book, K.L. Walther writes YA novels with strong elements of romance, adventure, and family that are wonderful for an older high school and above audience. With Madeline, Walther captures an authentic teen voice. There are moments of big emotions, jumping to conclusions (and feeling SO sure of them), and just maybe some catastrophizing. She has her flaws, but these flaws serve to make her a more likable and relatable character rather than alienating her from the audience. She is fiercely loyal to her family, full of love, and competitive, She struggles to find positive traits in her brother's fiancée, yet she also makes herself emotionally vulnerable while trying to see if there's a way to change that. Her relationship with Katie is full of nuance, and the development of it is certainly not a perfect uphill line. Also, readers who have read more of Walther's catalogue of books will be delighted by some familiar 'faces.'

The pacing of the ending was faster than I expected, and there were some elements that I felt distracted from the overall themes. Some of the ending felt counter to a lot of what Mads gained/learned throughout her experiences as a bridesmaid that year. For the most part, I loved the way the romance unfolded throughout the novel. I just didn't love the ending as much as I was expecting to. Overall, I think this is a book that will be greatly enjoyed by YA readers. I'm not sure yet if I'll be adding it to my classroom library, but I could see myself recommending it to some older students I've had in the past.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this audiobook!

This was my first book from K L Walther and when I say that this scratched an itch I didn't even know I had.

-YA Romance
-Healthy Sibling Relationship
-Friends to Lovers
-LGBT Prominent Characters

Following the story of a high school girl was she takes on the challenge of trying to bond with her brother's new fiancé. In doing so, she lets the fellow bridesmaids set her up on dates much like the Bachelorette.

Along the way, she learns about her family, her self, her college goals and what romance looks like at this age.

Walther does a great job of incorporating how those relationships aren't always easy, but are always meaningful.

Haven't read a K. L. Walther book in the longest time but boy am I glad I dived back in with this one.

And to think Mer & Whit from The Summer of Broken Rules make an appearance which I didn't even realise til I started reading, what a lovely surprise!

A truly entertaining read. Madeline, her family and friends were a riot. I love that this book was set practically over a year and we got to see them through the seasons as dynamics changed and preconceived notions fell away.

This book was very much about Madeline going through changes and the romance(s) were a slide plot I felt. The thing about K. L. Walther's writing is that she pens such a vivid cast of characters that you feel as if you've gone on a journey not just with the main character but all of the side characters too, you come away with pieces of them all and it is wonderful.

That being said the inevitable romance that blossomed between Madeline and Marco warmed my heart, as soon as he started calling her "sweettart" I knew they were endgame AND he always liked her.

Books like these are the reason I still read YA and the genre continues to pleasantly surprise me.

Jennifer Jill Araya's narration was masterful.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this dazzling ALC.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this arc.

I devoured this book…and even went ahead and bought it on kindle because I wasn’t able to listen to it fast enough and needed to know what happened.

First Time for Everything by K.L. Walther is a YA rom-com about Mads, a field hockey star who’s never been kissed. When she becomes a bridesmaid in her brother’s wedding, a game of truth or dare kicks off a summer of first crushes, awkward dates, and unexpected feelings—as Mads figures out who she really wants and who she’s becoming.

I like that this book circled back to a few characters from her other book ‘The Summer of Broken Rules.’ I also enjoyed seeing Mads’ relationship with her friends, potential boyfriends and especially Katie develop.
