An entertaining story with gorgeous writing and real characters. I really enjoyed my time reading this, it was full of love, lust and heartbreak. The unreliable narrative made it even more enjoyable, I wasn’t sure if what I was reading was true or not. Ethan and Simone were likeable characters despite their flaws, and I loved how their marriage was written. A different yet entertaining plot with fantastic characters and writing.

I sadly ended up DNFing 'Seduction Theory' after being so excited by the comparison to Julie May Jonas's 'Vladimir' which I absolutely loved, but it just failed to reach those heights for me.

Cheating is always a dicey topic for me and it has to be handled in a way that different and interesting, and usually darker, whereas although I didn't read all of this novel, it just didn't make complete sense to me why this couple would make those choices. I found myself getting annoying with Ethan and Simone and while it would have been easy to read to the end, I wouldn't have enjoyed myself.

This could have been a wrong book, wrong time situation so I'm open to revisiting it if the mood strikes, but for right now, 'Seduction Theory' sadly didn't work for me.

Thanks to NetGalley and Weidenfeld and Nicholson for the review copy.

This was a fun, fresh take on the classic affair story - I love how Adrian played with form and introduced the narrator into the narrative so late in the game.

Maybe due to the arc formatting, I did find it challenging understanding who's POV the narrative was from to begin with, but when I grasped this things became much easier and I loved it!

Absolutely fantastic. Had me utterly absorbed at every page, and cured my reading slump of 5 months. No notes, just READ THIS.

Seduction Theory by Emily Adrian is a short and sharp novel that captures the nuances of intimate relationships. The protagonist invites readers to question the boundaries of desire and to reflect on what truly constitutes betrayal in our contemporary world. This campus novel reads like a fever dream with a satisfying ending. There were so many great one-liners, here's an example from Page 57: "We fell in love the old-fashioned way, meaning we believed we invented the concept."

Seduction Theory by Emily Adrian plays around with an unreliable narrator and different points of view for a fresh and rewarding read.

I found this to be razor witted and sharp tongued. You could feel the judgement, obsession and contempt burning off the page. At times I was so surprised by it that I laughed out loud. It was a bit weird and the ending was unsatisfying but I think it fit really well with the rest of the story.

I don’t really know how to neatly sum up this novel.
On the face of it it’s the story of a married couple, both academics at an American university. The man, Ethan, stumbles unconvincingly into an affair with a secretary, whilst his wife gets all too close to one of her students.
But the narration is odd, and it soon becomes clear that this is being told through the eyes of a student who is sort of writing it as her thesis.
None of the characters are likeable. It was an odd one for me. Pretentious, but yet the story of the affairs alone do not make compelling enough reading and so it needs the odd twist to it,
I’m leaving it uncertain of my feelings for it!
